The gambit fails; though some of the wall is set alight the Gauls swiftly put it out before too much damage can be done. However, the burned portion is significantly weakened and would undoubtedly much easier to attack. Lepidus' allied Gallic cavalry inform him that a sizeable Aquitani force has been spotted gathering westwards to lift the siege of Lactora. {Gallic Forces} Garrison of Lactora: 1000 light infantry 500 heavy infantry 500 cavalry
Aquitani relief force: 4000 Light infantry 3000 Heavy Infantry 2000 Cavalry
—- A missive arrives from Consul Sulla in Rome, for the Imperator’s eyes only.

162 Romans are killed in an ultimately simple engagement for the Legions. Lepidus' men storm the Castrum and begin mercilessly massacring all the Gauls they can find, a few brave defenders putting up a final stand as their comrades flee for their lives. 19,000 denarii is seized as loot from the Gallic city. All the legions gain 1 veteran points.
Fleeing for their lives to the west, the remaining Lactorans run into the Aquitanian relief force and inform them of the destruction of their settlement by a force of 10,000 strong Romans.

Lepidus hails his troops as victors. Any remaining Gauls, if there are any are sold into slavery. Lepidus now moves mind to task for his next major engagement. The Gallic relief force.
Lepidus takes an advantages position in anticipation for the coming relief force. Lepidus chooses to hold one of his three legions hidden from sight. Hoping to overwhelm the enemy when the lines are committed in battle.

After a three week journey up the coast to Marseilles and then continuing by horseback with his servants , Marcus Livius Drusus finally comes to the camp of the northern legions. After getting his bearings in the camp, he makes his way to the command tent of Lepidus and presents himself, still dusty from the ride.

Lepidus was busy planning his next move with his staff when the young man entered. Seems like his son had had some succes in recruiting new men to lead the legions. “Salve Drusus” lepidus said as he waved the others off. A slave brought watered wine. “You must be tired but there’s no rest on the frontiers” Lepidus said as he meant it. “You can clean up later but we need to divise a plan. A aquitani relief force is marching here. I intend to meet them with two legions while you get a chance to prove your worth leading a third concealed legion.” Lepidus paused gauging a reaction. “Does that sound like a plan to you?”

"Ave, Consul," Drusus replies. "Congratulations on your recent victories. I and all of Rome thank you" He states rather formally. "The gauls are planning to attack already?" He asks. " That seems quite aggressive of them after your recent exploits over them." He gulps down some wine.
"What else can you tell me of the situation? " he questions. "Also, how shall I refer to you ?"

The main Aquitani force retreat west up the Garumna River while they send cavalry and archers to harass the Roman Camp. Then they send riders to the Arveni asking for help and warning what will happen to their villages with Rome around.

The Roman scouts have apparently lost all trace of the Gallic army, knowing only that it disappeared to the west.

Hope to give battle. If theydont want to fight we’ll lay siege to Burdicala. “ Lepidus was worried. Ambushes had costs many a a legions last goodbye. “Pro Consul when we are with others. Marcus when we are alone” Lepidus finally added. He believed in discipline and strictness. —— The legions march up north seeking battle. If they don’t find it they will lay siege to Burdicala and prepare siege works.

As they rode their horses up the river, Drusus rode next to Lepidus so he could pick his brain. "As you know Marcus, I do not have any live military training, just what was required on the campuses near Rome." He begins. "If there is any advice you can give I would appreciate it." Lepidus seemed a very fatherly figure to him. "It appears you want to wipe this force out quite decisively?"

"It appears you want to wipe this force out quite decisively?" AS they rode the path tuned more more plentiful in tree's Lepidus enjoyed the scenery. He listened closely to Drussus, a man that could yet be molded into the perfect Roman Lepidus thought. His age reminded him of his own son, Lepidus the younger who had been making a name for himself. This created a distance between both men. Young men grew to be old as the old faded into old age and irrelevance. Lepidus always was afraid he'd fade into obscurity, that his name be forgotten. He snapped out of it and said "Remember to stick them with the pointy end" Lepidus joked. " In seriousness Drusus, with command comes responsibility. Look at the men behind us. Each one of them will lay down their lives if we ask. It's a burden that you should never treat lightly. They have families, they represent the republic when we are not in it. These are the man that carry our ideals. Our idea's for a better world." Lepidus said with serious tone. The death of his soldiers had been the reason they went on the march. "My advice would be to listen to them but to make your own mind. These men are bred for war and are good for it. Be part of their story but be sure to be the one writing it. Not the one participating in it like they are." Perhaps this was heavy for the new man but it was the truth in Lepidus his eyes. "When we make camp, I'll have the finest centurions drill you. Their skill can be matched by you. You had setbacks in life, channel it and then you' ll make a fine soldier." He added, as the scouts returned. Lepidus let Drussus hear in when the report was being made. Lepidus looked at the man and asked " Your call, will we lead this men further in and seek battle or shall we seek better opportunity? Keep in mind we are in hostile lands where everyone wants to have a piece of us." He concluded. Lepidus wanted a quick battle yes, he needed the money to finance further endeavors. With a sigh Lepidus answered the final question. "I indeed want a fast conclusion to the affairs here. There are many more tribes and we are not on the move with the biggest army assembled. You know what makes the world function Drusus?" Lepidus asked in serious tone but without waiting he answered "Money. Money makes are careers, money finances our endeavors and money makes sure our names are etched into history. With heavy purse you can restore your family to former heights and with money I can assure my families continued succes." Lepidus concluded. He knew that with recent affairs in the capital, he needed funds. Funds to remain the richest house in Rome and to fund further conflicts, of which lepidus was sure there would be more.

The Romans give chase to the Gauls, who ride deeper into the forest as their enemies approach. They present Lepidus with a forested trail which they believe leads to the enemy encampment.
