The Insubres are reported to have around nine thousand men under arms within the city. The Roman spies assert that the Gauls have gathered enough supplies to last for some time, at least until the end of the year.

After a lengthy struggle, Lepidus’ men scale the walls and capture the city. 1674 Romans are killed in the conflict, making it a costly victory. The entire remaining Gallic army are captured, making slaves worth 10,000 denarii. A further 21,000 is looted from the Gallic treasury. Their tribal leaders are also captured. Lepidus now has a choice whether to sell the entire tribe into slavery or not - the remaining women and children are at the mercy of the Romans, with many already contemplating suicide with their menfolk defeated.

Lepidus stood victorious among the ruins of the city. Seeing the amount of Roman dead Lepidus had but one decision he could make regarding the fate of this tribe. " Sell them all into slavery, none shall defy Rome" he proclaimed as his Legionaries declared him the victor. Rome had to send a message and Lepidus would oblige. The Roman economy would flourish, as would Lepidus his own purse. Quickly becoming the financial strong man in Rome. His estates were vast, his private army at his disposal and significant backing from the optimate class.

A further seven thousand in loot and slaves would belong to Lepidus.
A report arrives to the Pro-Consul, declaring that Narbo has been looted and sacked by the Allobroges. They are now moving to block Lepidus from crossing the Alps into Transalpine Gaul, declaring their intent to drive Rome out and annex the entire territory.

Lepidus’ hasty march into the Alps is fortunately timed, quickly breaking over the mountains in the midst of summer to emerge near the city of Massalia. The Allobroges are approaching the city from the north, undoubtedly intending to attack it or convince it to join their side against Rome. Fortunately, they have no love for tribal Gauls, and so remain stubbornly defiant despite the large Gallic force approaching their walls.

The Allobroges arrive there first. They are arrayed on a hilltop not far from Massalia, having picked advantageous ground once they heard of the approaching Romans. A large crop of woods shields them from both Roman eyes and Roman projectiles, as well as obscuring from Lepidus the true extent of their numbers and their composition

Lepidus sends out riders to the locals of Massalia, who have been spares a siege, to find out if anyone monitored their troop numbers on their arrival. In the meantime the Romans start preparing ballistae's and other siege works to attack the barbarian positions from a far. Hoping to lure them down. If that fails, the Romans lay siege to the hilltop.

The Massalians assert that the Allobroges number at least nine thousand men.
The Roman siege weapons skitter into the trees, getting lost in the branches. Whether they cause the Allobroges discomfort or not is unknown to the Romans from their current distance. While the Romans begin to establish siege lines and stretch themselves to surround the Allobroges position, the Gauls suddenly begin to advance, the sounds of their charge erupting around the hilltop as they move en masse downhill.

The Romans rally to the sound of the trumpets and hastily assemble in battle positions. They are to hold they ground. All cavalry is in reserve, ready to strike the flanks when the opportunity presents itself or plug a gap that might fall in the Roman lines. Lepidus talks courage into his legionnaires minds. After a spirited Gallic attack, Lepidus' legions rally and drive the Gauls back, the right flank rolling up their line. Lepidus loses 666 men, gains 5000 denarii, and slays 1500 Gauls in the rout. All legions gain a veterancy point. The Allobroges are badly mauled, and immediately request a peace with Rome, having retreated north.

A rider comes from the south, bearing word from Gaius Fabius Maximus Atellus and Quintus Caecilius Metellus. The letter explains the situation, known as of the time of the letter and by Metellus' recount, in Rome and how Saturninus turned traitor against the Republic. Metellus believes that there could be others, such as Vitulus and Sertorius. Though Saturninus had been captured and committed suicide, Atellus requests that Lepidus join them in Rome or, at the very least, send a legion to support them. He only has the support of the Eighth and the Fifth, camped near Capua, seems unwilling to give them in securing the Republic, the Senate, and the People from violent agitators and seditious traitors. He suspects that likely they have been bought off by Saturninus' confederates. He hopes that Lepidus will aid them to ensure the security of their dear Republic.
