Lepidus is confronted with bad nightmares and terrible omens on his march to battle the Aquitani. An eagle drops down dead in front of his legion. Even the sacred chickens refuse to eat when called upon to lift the men's spirits.

Publius, walking back drunk from the tent of Drusus, staggers and falls straight into a latrine pit. After nearly drowning, he is fished out by his legionaries. It took a while for the smell to get out of his cloak.

Lepidus the Elder finds himself a favourite mistress, a red haired Gallic woman that the men nickname Venus. Despite being a slave, she is given fine clothes and the freedom of the military camp, and soon many of the soldiers begin to joke that she is their real general.

Lepidus the Younger comes down with horrific sea-sickness in the choppy waters of the Aegean. He tries rubbing himself in horse urine to avert the malaise, but it only causes the other officers to actively avoid his stench.

Atellus enjoys himself a little too much at Saturnalia and wakes in the bed of a random man on the Aventine. Fortunately, his wife never finds out, but she was also conspicuously missing for much of the day.

Regulus is on watch one night and believes an enemy is approaching, and rouses the camp. He is embarrassed to find that it was merely a mountain goat, and is mocked for it for the rest of the campaign.

Decianus finds himself a practical celebrity due to the passing of the grain dole. At Saturnalia, he receives so many gifts that they could not possibly all fit in his house..

Cinna develops a fondness for drinking, and begins having consistent nightmares relating to his time on Crete.
Sulla finds that something he has eaten disagrees with him, making the winter in Pontus miserable as the general spends multiple hours squatting over a latrine pit.

Pius finds himself with a heavy hangover after Saturnalia, forcing him to miss a succession of his official duties. The one that he makes it to he embarrasses himself by fumbling his lines, being forced to vomit then return to finish the ceremony.
