After the circumstance of Lord Blackwood's re-swearing had passed, Brynden Tully sought out his nephew, recalling that the young man had mentioned wanting to speak with him. "Uncle, riders have brought me a letter from Riverrun. It would seem you are to be the castellan of Harrenhal castle. Stannis himself appointed you." A wise choice, Edmure thought. He would have appreciated being consulted, but he was glad someone able and loyal had been chosen for the position. "But that's not all. I need you to take care of these lands, to settle minor disputes and to oversee the reconstruction of the Riverlands. I won't be around as much as I'd like. I need someone I can trust to act in my name. Are you up to the task?"

"You will be spending your time in the capital then, I imagine?"
Brynden knew his nephew knew his nephew had been taken into Stannis' confidence throughout the course of the campaign to recover his crown. He was somewhat surprised by the Harrenhall appointment himself, but knowing that the Vale had appointed their own Knight of the Bloody Gate, he supposed he was in the market for a new position.
"You can count on me to keep an eye on the Riverlands in your absence. We've only just gotten the Trident back under Tully control, and to some extent I might blame my extended absence for its loss. I would be loathe to see it slip away again."
