"Ten years is still enough time for this to have quite the impact on our lands, my lords and lady." Elwood says, before turning his glance to the parchment for a few moments, then back to the two Lannisters. "You said a collection of the new mines, presuming the surveying expeditions meet with success, along with existing ones, will be leased, my lord?" Serrett pauses for a moment. "Do you have an estimate of how many existing mines each of our lordships would have to lease for this..repayment..even if some are temporary until the establishment of the new mines?" The leasing of how many would depend upon how many are found. Your houses already have mines as we speak, so I would not want to deprive you of any new ones entirely.Martyn had been told by Damion that there were those who would likely question this. Westerlands was a wealthy region and the nobility enjoyed that wealth. Even I am planning to sacrifice mines within the Rock to serve the Crown's needs. Our gold was once used by Robert Baratheon, but I do believe that Stannis will use our gold more frugally and intelligently. He would not squander it on rampant tournaments, but he would not want to see the Crown groaning with debt.Lord Lannister states as he turns to all those present. If anything, this is an opportunity. An opportunity to keep ourselves above and not fallen. I suspect many would want us on our backs after all.

Marband looked closer at the parchment, holding it closer to his eyes. He scoffed and threw it away. He hated getting old, losing his strength and eyesight.
"Let's say that we agree to this proposal. What benefits will our lands see for the sacrifice of our mines and wealth? Ashemark was hit hard by the Young Wolf's rampage through the Westerlands, and have yet recovered properly. With winter on our doorstep, the smallfolk will focus on preparing their meager stores, diminishing both harvests and mining."

The rest will be yours to reap. That is why I noted the inclusion of existing mines.Martyn explains further, not wanting his nobility to be without boons. This proposal merely involves our outward focus, for a time. My internal policies are currently being discussed.Lannister glances at Damion and then at Lefford, his two regents, then back at Marbrand. As of right now, I plan for money to be invested in Lannisport's trade, namely with the Reach. Grain is aplenty there after all.Which considering that, Martyn still needed a wife and connections may prove helpful, thought Damion as the young lord spoke. We also have plenty of fertile land between the Rock and the Pendric Hills and into Crakehall's lands, and turning east towards the Reach. With the men returning and disbanded, we must use them to farm and harvest in quick order.

The lady Lefford nods along with the words of Lord Lannister, her usual demeanour warmed. "Our king is as grasping as any merchant," her words filled the room with their usual chill. "And has a low opinion of our loyalty. This measure must be a test, and we cannot be seem to be anything less than leal." Alysanne allowed herself a moment for her words to silence. "Yes, Lord Marbrand's sentiment rings true with all of us. Yet I fear that we will have to play our part regardless."

Marbrand looked at the young Lord Lannister and the other lords gathered, ever frowning. Finally, he sighed and relented.
"Very well. I'll agree to this arrangement for now, but reserve my right as Lord of Ashemark to withdraw if the bounds of the contract are overstepped. I expect that my lord will summon us for further inquiries concerning the internal development of the Westerlands, and I'll be more than happy to provide my own proposals."

Martyn Lannister was pleased to see Marbrand consent.
As agreed upon, Lefford, Marbrand, and Westerling shall search and survey the northern hills. Swyft, Serret, and Lydden with the southern hills.
He states the plan, ensuring that all understood what was to come.
I desire to know of regular reports of your progress and what has been discovered. Once the surveys are done, I will convene with you once more to discuss an agreement involving what shall be leased to the Crown and what shall be kept.
As the meeting was adjourned, Damion Lannister sought out Lady Lefford and Lord Marbrand after Martyn retired. There was a matter that was overlooked at the meeting that Damion wished to speak with them about. Once the two were found, the old lion speaks his mind to them.
Lord Lannister is a young man. His sister is unmarried and so is he.
Damion says.
A bride must be found for the Lord of Casterly Rock. However, should we look within the Westerlands or outside of the West?

Serrett nods after Martyn explains how the leasing of the mines would be handled. As the conversation turns to discussing winter and other matters, the lord of Silverhill begins to formulate a plan for the surveying of his province.
"Of course my lord." Serrett bows slightly.

Lord Marbrand met with Damion Lannister, pondering his question. It was certainly important that the Lord of Casterly Rock marry and produce an heir.
"Lord Tywin married his cousin, Lady Joanna, while he sought spouses for his children outside the West. I doubt there are currently any rebellious lord who challenge his rule at this point, and the Lannisters have a poor reputation in the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. If we are to rebuild our standing, I'd suggest Lord Martyn seeks a wife not among his bannermen. Perhaps the Reach or the Vale. I doubt any river lord would agree to such a proposal."

Our people have bled and it will be no small symbol that he wed one of their number. Show them that we will not be needlessly dragged into the troubles of our neighbours doing."

Securing a marriage from the Reach would help with a possible deal in their grain trade. Mace Tyrell had many cousins after all. They would likely be the better option.Damion states, thinking of their southern neighbor. The Riverlands would likely be a place of concern in the future. He was originally betrothed to a Frey... but political liabilities there would not be good for the West. The old lion turns to Lefford after. There are a few possible brides in the West. Lord Westerling's two daughters, Lord Clifton's many, Lord Tyland of Lannisport has a daughter, Rosamund, Gerion's bastard daughter, Joanna Swyft, Lord Harys' granddaughter... I believe Lord Lydden has a couple of granddaughters... then, of course, Lady Lefford.Damion says, glancing at the Lady of the Golden Tooth. Choices, choices, choices. I can always try to bring this up with his Lordship.

"If his lordship can secure a marriage with the Tyrells, we won't have to worry about the South or famine. I'll say it again, the West stands behind Casterly Rock, it is the rest of the Seven Kingdoms that we need to rebuild relations with."
Damon was adamant about this. Ashemark had been hit badly by the Young Wolf's army rampaging through his lands, and he wanted none of that while he still lived.

" If his lordship sees in me companionship, and a loving wife, as a loyal servant it would be only right that I accept his request. Yet I am not one to press such a motion. Such a crass manoeuvre is beneath me. It must be Lord Martyn's decision, no matter his choice. A declaration to us all that we can rest easy in these coming times for repair and prosperity that has been denied us by our rivals."

Damion nods his head slowly. He turns to Lord Marbrand.
Perhaps then a favor can be asked of your, Lord Damon.
The old lion asks.
Your son, Ser Addam, is to be Lord Martyn's mentor to become a better knight. Perhaps he could discuss with Martyn about this while they train? If we were to speak with him, he'd likely choose whoever we'd suggest or believe is best. The year is coming to a close and the regency over the young lion will end soon.
He turns to Lady Lefford gesturing to his fellow regent.
She is right to say that it must be Lord Martyn's decision. So let's give him the chance to make that decision.
Damion then looks between the two.
In the mean time, I will speak with the maesters and see who would be a worthy choice as a bride from the Reach, the West, and elsewhere. Once Martyn makes his decision, we must be ready to offer our advice on who is best suited.

Hopefully he has more subtlety with his words than he does in battle. By your leave."Damon nodded before taking his leave from the other lords.

Later, after the meeting between the lords had concluded, Addam Marbrand took his place in the courtyard, waiting for his student. He took a stance, sword drawn, standing in silence for a few moments before launching a flurry of swings, stabs and blows. He danced across the courtyard in a well-honed display of swordsmanship. While unusable in an actual fight, it was a good warm-up.
