"Lord Lannister!" Botley cheerfully greeted as he approached. He had come unarmored, wearing a green and grey doublet rather than mail, while three banners flew over his head and those of his retainers: the flaming stag of Baratheon, the golden kraken on black of Greyjoy, and his own school of silver fish on green. "I realize this is a surprise, and that more surprisingly still, I come in peace..." Tris flashed a grin at that. The last time Ironmen came to Lannisport in any great number, it was under the command of the younger Greyjoy brothers Euron and Victarion, with orders to burn the Lannister fleet. "But it is true indeed, as is the fact that we now serve the same King. I am Tristifer Botley, Lord of Lordsport and a champion of the new Lady Reaper of Pyke, Asha Greyjoy."
"'Tis she who has sent me with five-thousand men and two hundred longships, the majority of the Iron Isles' remaining strength after her uncle's fatal misadventure in the Reach, with which to support the cause of the Fiery Hart." Quite the pun, the King's sigil of a hart in the blazing heart of his new god. It had taken Tristifer some time to figure that out, but he'd had nothing but time to think while the fleet was still sailing toward Lannisport. Perhaps Stannis wasn't as humorless as he had thought, after all. "And now here I am, looking to work out the best way to employ them in conjunction with you and your forces."

Martyn Lannister had heard the tales of the Ironborn. Stories spoken by his mother, as a child, to frighten him into obeying his parents. The dreaded Krakens of the seas, the raiders who stole children to feed to their Drowned God, and such. It was surprising to see a... well dressed Ironborn to say the least. Lucion notices his cousin remaining silent and gives his head a slight nod in the direction of Tristifer. The young Lannister comes out of his thoughts and proceeds to speak.
Lord... Botley.
Martyn says slowly, suddenly aware that he wasn't sure he had heard the name correctly.
We welcome you to the Rock and the West. It pleases us that you are not here to raid our lands, but rather to join... in arms to support the rightful Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.
The young Lion speaks, remembering his lessons.
We have over ten thousand spears, bows, and horsemen with us. With your men added, and your fleet, we can do much for His Grace.
Lucion nods his head, approvingly, at what was said by Martyn. The Lord Protector speaks next.
Do you know if the Lady Greyjoy or His Grace have any plans for your men and ours? We have received no word to advance here or there.

"Not at all." Tristifer replied breezily, folding his arms. "It seems to me that both our overlords have left us to decide on a course of action by ourselves. Any suggestions, my lord of Lannister?"
10,000 Westermen, combined with his 5,000 from the Iron Isles...that was a more respectable host, but still not one likely to be able of handling the Reach's might, unless it was divided. "I for one thought we might have two courses of action open to us," Botley began his pitch, "Either we head east to directly reinforce the King, or strike south and force the Reach to divert at least part of their strength against us. I would not advise marching on Oldtown, for obvious reasons, but if we harry their northern borderlands and occupy some castles they'll surely have to respond, and any soldiers they send our way will not be able to help defend the capital or support the mummer's dragon in the field." He just hoped to the Drowned God that those soldiers wouldn't be too many for them to overcome.

Lucion Lannister contemplates the two options.
I believe Aegon the Pretender has a sizable army of Reachmen within the vicinity of King's Landing. Unless he has marched, the capital is well protected.
It was a risky move and one that Tywin Lannister had performed marvelously.
It is clear that Aegon's strength weighs heavily upon the Reach and Dorne. It might be a better risk to strike south towards Highgarden given what little we know of the armies at King's Landing. Riders can be sent to scout the area of King's Landing and the southern road towards Highgarden. How does that sound?
The Lord Protector felt this was a bit more logical.

"That's perfectly fine by me." Tris answered, nodding. Between Lord Edmure, the North, the Vale, and the sellswords, he decided Stannis probably had more than enough troops to fight the pretender head-on, and Highgarden would make a fine prize to wash away the failure at Oldtown with. But it wouldn't hurt to scout ahead, and see if they had any chance at all of seizing the capital from right under Aegon's nose.
"I must admit, Lord Lannister, that like most Ironborn I am not an expert at land warfare. And yet at the same time, the strength of the Isles - naval and otherwise - is so depleted that independent operations may be a dangerous option at best." For either of us, Botley thought, recalling that Lannister had just told him the West also only had 10,000 men standing. As pale a shadow of Tywin's hosts as his own was compared to Euron's. "Should we strike southward toward Highgarden, I could sail for the Shields and the mouth of the Mander while you march overland, though as I just said, splitting our forces carries its great share of risks. And if we march eastward, well I don't think the longships would be of any use on the Goldroad - it'd surely be best to assail the capital as a unified host."

Ensure your men are ready to depart from Lannisport. The Lord Protector says to his Ironborn ally. I will send riders to the vicinity of Highgarden and King's Landing to see what lurks around those walls. From there, our choice can be made. With that done, two groups of outriders were sent to perform their duties. ============================ A couple days later, Botley was requested at the Rock where Lucion, Martyn, and others were speaking with a few dirtied looking knights, likely the commanders of the outriders sent. When Botley joined them, Lucion brought him to speed, pointing to the closest. This one reports that Highgarden has a sizable host. Numbers are undetermined and I fear that it will bleed us further. He points to the next. This one reports that King's Landing has nothing around it.Lucion turns to Botley. Our choices are defend any southern approach from the Tyrells or advance upon King's Landing.

"It seems to me as though we'd best march on King's Landing, then." Botley answered, one hand idly scratching at his chin. Some stubble was growing there, which he'd have to shave later that day or the next. "If we can snatch the city from beneath the pretender's nose, we could win the war for Stannis in one stroke." Such a prize would surely elevate the esteem of both the Iron Isles and the Westerlands, long bitter enemies to the iron Baratheon, in the King's eyes.
"The only concern is the power of the Reach, of course. Even if we don't storm on down to Highgarden to throw ourselves against this 'sizable host', they could come up on our flank while we're on the march, can't they?" Much like how Stannis and his clansmen had gotten the jump on Botley and his fellow Ironborn outside of Deepwood Motte, while they were attempting a desperate retreat to Asha's beached longships. Only Tris wasn't sure he could survive another such experience, considering the Reachmen had already shattered the Crow's Eye when that man had four times his number.
"As a diversion I could detach a small force, maybe two to two and a half thousand men, with the longships to harry the Reach's northwestern shores and besiege the castles of the Shield Islands. The distraction they provide could buy us valuable time on the Gold Road. But they won't last if Highgarden should come at them in force, and if we're intent on attacking the capital, we may need every man we can get for the assault." Besieging the capital was not something they could chance, Tris figured, considering the outcome of the battles in the Crownlands was still uncertain and if Stannis were to lose, Aegon could come on down to smash them to splinters against the walls of King's Landing. No matter what they did, their paths forward all seemed fraught with risk. The Lord of Lordsport thus took a deep breath and asked, "What do you think, Lord Lannister?"

As Lucion and Botley discussed their plans, a message arrived, via raven, to the Rock. When it was opened, the Lord Protector of the Rock learned of Stannis' three victories at Sow's Horn, defeating Aegon and his allies. It seemed that nothing was in the way of Baratheon's march upon the capital. He hands the missive to Tristifer. Seems we will not be needed at King's Landing. The Northmen, the Vale, and the Baratheon loyalists now move against the capital. He returns to a map of the Westerlands and taps his finger upon Lannisport. Let us encamp along the Roseroad and guard the southern approach and western flank of His Grace's advance. The presence of a host at Highgarden is enough reason.Lucion then moves his finger forward towards the Reach. When Stannis is victorious, we will offer to march into the Reach with reinforcements from the capital. A pincer move to end the Reachmen threat against his rule.Lannister nods his head, looking at Tristifer. Your ships could still be sent to raid the Reach to keep them occupied.

"Well. That does change things." Botley answered, sourly musing on the suddenness with which the West and the Iron Isles had lost their chance for easy glory. Ah well, now it seems they would have to have their mettle put to a true test by the Reach instead. If, indeed, Highgarden opted to do battle with them rather than turn cloaks once again, now that the cause of the false Dragon seemed to be on the precipice of complete collapse. "Alright, I see no fault in this new strategy. Do you think a thousand men will suffice for the raiding party?" A smaller number than the two or two-and-a-half thousand he had originally proposed. If they were going to sit on the Roseroad and wait for the Reach to come at them now, Tris surmised that he and Lannister should minimize the division of their army and keep as many soldiers with them as possible.

Army of the Rock and Iron{Army of the West}13,900 men + 1,400 sellswords = 15,300 men
5,560 light infantry 2,780 archers 2,780 heavy infantry 1,390 light cavalry 1,390 heavy cavalry
Westerlands Sellswords = 1,400 490 light Infantry 350 archers 350 heavy infantry 210 light cavalry {Army of the Iron}5,000 men
1,500 light infantry 1,000 archers 2,250 heavy infantry 250 light cavalry
Lucion considered their troop numbers, pulling some papers out to examine what there was. After taking in the information, the male nods his head. Agreed. Have your ships, with 1,000 raiders, begin raids along the coasts of the Reach. Make it seem like they are probing for a new place to attack. The Lannister said before moving the papers away. We will build an encampment just east of Lannisport, between the city and Clegane's Keep to the East. The hills and mountains here will provide good cover from flanking. We will utilize our light cavalry to patrol the Searoad, as well as the Gold Road to the East, regularly. We will also utilize the forests, near Crakehall, as a place to conceal the outriders if need be.Lucion looks at Botley. It would be best to concentrate our men. Sound good?

"Sounds good." Botley affirmed with a simple nod. With a wave of his hand, he sent Lord Merlyn away to gather the thousand raiders and make ready to depart from Lannisport, while he himself would continue to command the majority of the Ironborn troops on land with the Lannisters. "I trust we can quickly march to interrupt any attempt by the Reach to relieve the siege of the capital from here, Lord Lannister?"

The Lady Lefford appeared at the summons later than was customary for her. It seemed that a passing ailment had taken hold of her usually steely visage, causing no small hinderance to both her ambitions and lordly duties. However the woman was the last one to mark herself out as one with weakness, so garbed warmly, she made the best effort to hide her obvious condition.

Lord Botley turned up as requested, curious. Last he checked they had been quite comfortable sitting in their defensive position, with Stannis on the verge of victory over King's Landing and the Reach seemingly inactive; had something changed in the interim?

Stannis Baratheon is victorious and the Pretender has been cast away.Lucion states to the three present. Damion's wrinkled face smiles. Peace... at long last...He says in an old voice. Peace for the West and for the whole of the Seven Kingdoms. Lucion nods his head. Aye. Even the Reach has surrendered from what I have heard. He turns to Botley. I must go to the capital for the King has named me Master of Coin. I believe you should join me as Asha Greyjoy's representative. I am still considering whether Martyn should make the journey to King's Landing or not. However, his presence would be a good sign to Baratheon of our support to his cause. The Lord Protector considers before addressing Damion and Lady Lefford. Since I will be away at King's Landing, the regency will fall upon the two of you. As promised, Martyn will have a regent for only one more year. By then, he should be of age and able to rule the West in his own name and right. I will see about getting any Westermen knights that roam the Seven Kingdoms to return to the West to assist in Martyn's reign from the Rock.Lancel Lannister, Lord Plumm's sons, Addam Marbrand, and more were among these absent knights that needed to come home at long last.
