Reigning Lord of the Vale: Denys Arryn, 'the Darling of the Vale', Lord Paramount of the Vale, Lord of the Eyrie, Defender of the Vale, and Warden of the East Heir of the Vale: Osric Arryn, firstborn son of Denys and Amanda The Eyrie is an ancient castle and seat of House Arryn, one of the oldest lines of Andal nobility, within the Vale of Arryn. It is situated in the Mountains of the Moon on a shoulder of the peak known as the Giant's Lance, several thousand feet above the valley below. Although small compared to the seats of other Great Houses in Westeros, the Eyrie is considered impregnable to attack. During wintertime, the Arryns seek refuge against the cold in the Gates of the Moon at the base of the mountain. He left as a knight, a sworn sword of the Vale, only to return as Jon's designated heir, thanks to the approval of His Grace, the Prince Rhaegar. A contingent of troops, numbering five thousand men, was left under the Prince's command and led by a trusted nobleman of the Vale. Lord Arryn was welcomed at the Bloody Gate and further greetings at the Gate of the Moon. From there, he ascended to the Eyrie to begin his reign as Lord Paramount of the Vale. A number of things had to be done though before a decree could be heralded to all the Valemen. One topic included the Riverland knights that were intended to follow Lysa Tully into the Vale, but were now without a charge, most notably Brynden Tully, the brother of Lord Hoster. Another matter involved Harrold Hardyng, who he would speak over with his wife about what he told Prince Rhaegar before Denys approached Harrold's father. Royal JokerA handful of days later, Lord Arryn summoned Ser Brynden to where he was within the Eyrie, gazing up at the seat of Lord Jon and their ancestors. One of the few moments he had time to spare and a bit of silence considering the hustle and bustle of recent days.

Ser Brynden entered the main hall of the Eyrie without a sound. The middle-aged knight was growing old, streaks of grey getting more prominent in his auburn hair, but he still had his strength and senses keen and honed. He bowed his head slightly to the younger man.
"You called, Lord Denys?"

Denys seemed to be focused on the seat of the Eyrie for a moment longer before turning to Blackfish.
It is unfortunate that the Lady Lysa will not get to see the Eyrie. For to see as far and wide as a flying hawk is a sight unlike any other. Now Jon’s spirit soars above the Vale, keeping a watch over us…
The Lord Arryn then comes over to Brynden.
I know you came to the Vale in anticipation of serving your niece. But in such a short time, I can tell you have made fast friends with noble and knight alike. What will you do now, Brynden?

Brynden was rubbed his stubbled cheek in contemplation.
"Don't know. I like the Vale well enough, but there's not much tying me down here now that my niece went back home. My brother would probably have me drawn and quartered if I ever stepped foot near Riverrun anymore."
The Blackfish chuckled to himself, shaking his head.
"To be honest, I haven't got a clue. Maybe I'll become a hedge knight and hit the road, or I'll see the world as a sellsword before my bones ache too much. Whatever I do, I need to do what I do best - fight."

Denys could understand Brynden's desire to fight. He was a rather bold knight after all, restless if given a chair, but calm upon a steed.
There is always a place here for you if you desire.
Certainly, a few offices that could be given.
Knight of the Blood Gate is an option. Perhaps even help me keep the hill tribes in check as a sword sword or captain of my personal guard.
They had been bold enough to steal away one of his wife's sisters after all.
The choices are yours if you desire to make the Vale a home.

Brynden scratched his chin for a moment.
"The Knight of the Bloody Gate protects the Vale from invaders and from those mountain folks, correct? I won't just have to sit and demand tolls from every merchant and hedge knight on their way to the Eyrie?
It was a fancy title, at the very least.

Denys chuckles at the remark of tolls and such.
Maesters and other Gate officials will be handling that daily work, Ser Tully. You have no need to worry about falling into a merchants role and seeing your sword become rusty for it.
Lord Arryn would gesture in its direction.
It would be a stable income, a place of prestige to hold. The garrison is no more than a few thousand men, but you will carry weight as its commander if more are needed to enforce order and keep the hill men at bay.
Nasty bunch they were, but Brynden could handle them.
Mostly be patrolling the surrounding area between our border with the Riverlands at the foot of the mountains all the way back to the Gate of the Moon and the nearby mountain paths. I doubt there would be a day without something going on.

Brynden grinned at Denys Arryn.
"Sounds like fine work to me, Lord Denys. You have your Knight of the Bloody Gate."
He held out his hand to shake Lord Arryn's. Perhaps it was a breach of protocol for a knight to shake a lord's hand, but the Brynden Blackfish wasted little time on such unnecessary niceties.

Denys was from a poorer branch of the Arryn family. He was used to the more humble gestures of greeting and thanks as well as the etiquette at court. And so, the Lord of the Eyrie shook Brynden’s hand, willing and firmly as he could.
Welcome to the Arryn court then, Ser Tully.
Having the Blackfish at his court was certainly a good boon, considering his skill.
Take your time with departing to take up your station. There is no rush. I would advise that you pick out the right knights and attendants to help you perform your role as the Knight of the Bloody Gate.

"Any recommendations from the Lord of the Eyrie? You've ridden with the knights of the Vale far more than I."
This was not his home, not his people. Brynden knew the worth of Bracken, Blackwood, and Darry.

The knight of Ninestar concluded the ardous climb to the Eyrie. He came with a number of retainers, knights and sister, per request of Denys Arryn himself.

Brynden knew the worth of Bracken, Blackwood, and Darry. Denys Arryn ponders a bit on the knights of the Vale. A list of them was set upon his desk back in his solar, candidates to serve in his personal guard and various other offices of the Vale. You are welcomed to bring any Riverlander of good standing into your service, if you like, Ser Tully. As for further recommendations from his own homeland... There is a Ser Henry Templeton, the Knight of Ninestars. A good knight that I plan to bring into the offices of the Eyrie.Denys took a moment to think further. Lord Yohn Royce has a skilled master-of-arms, Ser Samwell Stone, though doubt he'd part with him. Then there is Lyn Corbray, son of the late Lord Corbray and wielder of Lady Forlorn. Lord Yohn Royce has kin too, at the court here, Ser Nestor, who is a knight in his prime, with a robust son, Albar, who is on the cusp of manhood. Ser Vardis of House Egen, Ser Marwyn Belmore, Andar Royce, heir to Runestone, are all among the cream of young knights. Many of our older veterans died alongside Lord Jon unfortunately. There were certainly wandering knights and squires, Gulltown might have some Arryn cousins too, the very distant kind of course. I will see if I can ask around. We have certainly lost quite the number from the war... but surely, there must be some hiding under rocks. The knight of Ninestar concluded the ardous climb to the Eyrie. Upon his arrival, Henry's entourage are given quarters in the Eyrie, while a couple of Denys' knights escort him and his sister to the solar of Lord Arryn. At present, he seemed to be writing up a decree, namely to promote various individuals to certain stations such as Captain of the Guard, Knight of the Bloody Gate, High Steward of the Vale, and so forth. After finishing a sentence, Denys rises to greet the pair. Ser Harry! Ahh, it is good to see you fully recovered. Getting back to keeping that arm strong, I hope?A servant comes over, beckoned by Lord Arryn, to give the three of them wine. Hopefully the journey from Ninestars was without issue. I am only just beginning to resume the patrols that Lord Jon implemented to keep the hairy bastards in their hills and mountain caves.Plenty to do now that he was Lord of the Eyrie.

"Aye, sire"Said Hotspur. He and his sister both were wearing furs, that they handed down with little regard to a servant. Both were wearing clothing fitting for riding. "You can hardly see anything but freezing cold this time of the year. And in no time everything will be snow-covered fields, pines and hovels. I expect you will soon leave the Eyrie for the Gates""My Lord, we wish to congratulate you on your ascension"Said Margery, polite, with a curt nod. "Ah, aye, I was just going to say as much"Templeton frowned.

"Ah, aye, I was just going to say as much"Templeton frowned. Lady Waynwood has already retired to the Gates of the Moon with our son, Osric. Along with her household attendants and ladies. It was warmer there and would be good for her health as well as their sons, especially considering all knew at court that the lady was with child once more. I thank you both for your congratulations. It has been... quite the task to take up considering the reputation and skill of the late Jon.A funeral had already been performed, putting to rest the late Lord Arryn alongside his immediate king and among both his noble and royal ancestors. Speaking of the Gates of the Moon, I would be remise to not offer you reward for your services, Ser Henry, during the late Rebellion. At that moment, Denys offers the pair of them seats so that they could get down to business. First, I would like to offer your sister a place in my wife's household as a lady-in-waiting. If she is agreeable and willing, of course.
