Hardyng appeared shocked, his moustache quivering above his lip in surprise
”But my lord, he is my only son and heir. Do I get no say in this? He was to squire for Lord Waynwood here when he came of age. He will inherit mine own lands one day.”
Eustace too looked bemused that he was losing what was a valuable ward in the Hardyng boy.
”Indeed, Lord Denys. He was to be my own page in a few years. I would think some recompense is in order for both of us. Else this feels like a punishment to both myself and Ser Hardyng.”

He was doing the Vale a favor by ensuring an even greater future for Harrold! And all that did was cause both his natural father AND Lord Eustace to extend their hands, asking for compensation. The Arryn family was already in dire straits after the recent losses and Denys was simply doing his duty by securing the Eyrie and the Vale for the coming future. And all these two could think of was 'what's in it for me?'
And so too will Harrold have a chance at inheriting the whole of the Vale. As such, I would like to see to his potential being great.
As for compensation, Denys sharply waves over a maester who brings a book over.
Lord Hardyng, I can grant you compensation in the form of grants.
Lord Arryn motions to the maester who speaks to him of what properties there were that were held by the Arryns, inherited from cousin branches, held for generations directly, or gained by traitors.
Three castles will be given to you, two of which are situated near Old Anchor and one within one of the fertile valleys to the Northwest of here.
Then his gaze turned to the High Steward.
I will grant you Osric as your future ward as compensation. An education that will ensure your hand will determine the growth of the heir of the Vale. And... two manors that are situated between Redfort and Ironoaks lands. A good prize as they watch over the mountain roads between the Eyrie and Gulltown.
Five properties immediately given away. Certainly, this was quite the grant, but Arryn had plenty of land to grant anyways. A few castles lost was better than hearing anything further on this matter that was meant to help the Vale, not deprive persons of any benefits. This sort of stuff did make Denys wish there was a tournament to enjoy.

Gandalf Denys motions to a servant who comes over. Have the... second floor rooms of the eastern tower be prepared for the Lord Waynwood and any of his family.Lord Arryn commands as the servant bows and departs. Bring a suitable guard of your knights and any attendants you need to help with your new role, Eustace.Denys smiles before turning to his wife. He leans over, whispering in her ear. She nods as Denys now looks at Eustace. May I speak directly with Lord Hardyng? It involves his son, Harrold.Lord Waynwood's first role, as High Steward, would be witnessing and advising on what was to come next. =============== oznerol Ser Tully has already departed for the Bloody Gate and I advised him on who to look to for help and assistance. Even gave him permission to bring in Riverlander knights he may know. The Vale's knights were fewer now after the devastating losses at the Trident. There were a number of young knights on the rise, but they were still inexperienced or growing up. The most promising of which was Nestor Royce's son, Albar, who was just about to turn eighteen now. A very robust individual that Denys hoped would live to be a great knight. I intend to rebuild from the losses of knights and men from the Trident, but, more importantly, see to the Vale's growth in the peace to come.Denys points at Ser Henry. And I need energetic and eager men, like you, to help me see it through. "I will ride to the Bloody Gate and talk with the Blackfish"Said Templeton. "In no time you will see peace is again brought to the land by steel and spear, sire"

News arrive at the Eyre: a ship with the black and red colors of House Targaryen has landed in Gulltown. The rumors are that the royal envoys are slowly making their way to House Arryn's seat.

Humphrey’s eyes bulged. He was being transformed from a minor landed knight to a man with several castles and manors overnight.
”A fine prize, my lord. You are most gracious.” Eustace was more focused on having Osric as his own ward. That was twice the value of Harrold, and then some.

His eyes were focused on Hardyng though. Is this acceptable for what I desire to do with your son, Lord Hardyng?Arryn inquires as he needed an answer from the man, not just a look of surprise. Given how little of the Arryn family remains, as head of the family, it is my duty to see that all members have a chance at a great future.Save the Gulltown Arryns, who cares about merchant loving cousins.

Pinkerton AxBrew Sunster oznerol Magnate LuciusThe royal party would ride up from the Vale of Arryn towards the Gates of the Moon, the castle of Lord Harry Templeton, who was known throughout the Vale as the Hotspur. Eustace rode at the forefront alongside the two newcomers, his sister trailing just behind him. Anya was dark haired and solemn looking, and had little in the way of conversation to entertain Ser Lonmouth with. Not that he had appeared interested in her, for it seemed he was far more concerned with staring at her brother's calves when he wasn't looking. Thus she tried to insert herself at the side of Mooton, and had attempted a stiff and courteous manner of flirting all the way up to the Gates. As the Waynwood banner came into view, the gates swung open. It was announced that several newcomers had come on the King's business to speak to Lord Arryn.

Gandalf
"Who is this Hotspur, Lord Waynwood? Is he someone I should know about?"
He had begun to grow fonder of the redhead, even if he was still apalled by some of his most forward and mischevious comments and jokes. And there were his looks, of course.

He is among the cream of the knights. One of the rising leaders that will see to the future of sworn swords of the Vale, Ser Lonmouth.
The voice of Lord Arryn responded to the question as he came down some stone stairs, having noticed the banner of Waynwood from his solar at the Gate of the Moon. Several knights followed him in his wake as he descended to welcome both the High Steward of the Vale and the royal party sent by King Rhaegar.
Earned his reputation serving the late Jon, especially at the Trident.
Denys would give a good smile at Ser Lonmouth before looking at Eustace. His eyes then glance over at King's Marshal.
Glad to see you were given a warm welcome and good company by the High Steward. I'd show you the Eyrie, Ser Lonmouth, but... it is still our winter months for another few weeks. The cold winds that blow through up there aren't good for the bones. One would have to be roasting within a fireplace to be warm.
He turns and gestures to the mighty keep that towered high above.

The Lord Marshal nodded his head courteously towards the newly arrived Lord Arryn
"The Gates of the Moon are still an impressive sight, milord. So much stone, such high walls. Lonmouth Keep is mostly wood and a dwarf in comparison"
He eyed Mooton at the mention of the Trident. Back then, they had thought everything was lost, even the Prince. But they were victorious. The battle had been won and Rhaegar had survived. Connington had not been so lucky. Poor Connington.
"Then I must count myself lucky not to have crossed his path at the battle." He said, as to remind Denys that not so long ago they had been eager to spill each other's blood.

I’d say the Seven were certainly with the living those days. We are fortunate to see our children grow up and witness another Great Peace, not since the reign of Aegon, the Fifth of His Name.
Denys remarks as he gestures now for the royal party, and Lord Waynwood, to follow him inside. His wife was currently tending to young Alyssa Arryn, who was still but a child. Osric was growing up fast and would soon be under the tutelage of the High Steward. The party is led into the larger audience hall where servants came to dispense drink and food.
Tell me, Lord Marshal, how is the King? How are the situations in the Crownlands developing?
The contingent of Valemen who followed the King to King’s Landing spoke of the horror they saw as green flames engulfed the whole of the capital.

"'Tis no secret that it has not been easy. When I left, reconstruction efforts had not yet begun. The realm needs financing, for the reconstruction but also to pay off loans taken during the rebellion. Moreoever, the Faith has still not elected a High Septon. And well, the refugees. Tens of thousands. I am sure some must have arrived at the Vale, no?"
Lonmouth examined Arryn's family. Dennis was young yet he had already sired two children. A patriarch in the making. Richard still hesitated about those matters. He wasn't getting any younger though.
"The wounds of the war are healing, but they are not quite closed yet. But I am sure his majesty will prevail. He is a just and fair man."
The Lord Marshal grabbed a cup of water from one of the servants and drank it all. Let's be done with this, he thought.
"Which brings me to the reason I'm here. I've come to collect what House Arryn owes King Rhaegar".

I have received reports of small bands at the Bloody Gate and those that managed to get a boat to Gulltown.
More of a trickle compared to the reports heard from within the Crownlands, the Reach, the Stormlands, and the Riverlands. Hundreds and thousands fled in all manner of directions with a portion remaining in a so called shantytown within the shadow of King's Landing's ruined walls and charred streets. Still, Denys welcomed them and got the small number to work. Peasant hands needed something to do or else they'd turn to banditry soon enough.
It will surely be a hard start to what could be a grand reign.
Ah, to the point, thought Lord Arryn as he grabbed himself a cup of wine.
I promised the then Prince Rhaegar, before the walls of Harrenhal, that one of my household would be sent to the capital. The Arryn family is small now, unfortunately, given the many tragedies and deaths. Nonetheless, a promise is a promise. Harrold Arryn, born of House Hardyng by my wife's sister, second-in-line to the Vale, shall be handed to your care and to that of the chosen knight by His Grace.
Young Harrold was presently with them, considering he had been adopted by Denys as his son and given the rights and privileges as the heir to Osric should anything happen.
I will send, with you, six Vale knights to escort him back to Dragonstone and serve as his direct retainers if that is alright with His Grace.

Lonmouth nodded, pleased.
"This will do, Lord Arryn. Your virtues are not sung mistakenly. I appreciate that you honour your promise. May this be the beginning of a friendship between the Vale and the Targaryens."
Richard raised his empty cupt
"However, I have other business to attend to, I will not be going back immediately to Dragonstone. You will have plenty of time to say your goodbyes to young Harrold. I leave it up to you to decide if you'd prefer to send him on his way with his retinue or if you will await my return."

Denys rubs his chin slightly as a servant came over to refill the glass of Ser Lonmouth.
I will have some Arryn vessels take him to Dragonstone then, Lord Marshal.
Best get the promise fulfilled so that Lord Arryn could focus on other things.
Harrold will certainly find better opportunities and, hopefully, a future that he can control with what he will learn and gain from his time at the royal court.
