{Italian Eyes Only}
The Samnites move to siege Capua. They build siege towers, ladders, and battering rams. He sends word to Marsia advising them to strike hard and fast. The Romans are on the defense.

"It seems like it"Replied Pompey in turn, with teenage anger seething on his voice. "We have our worth. And we're loyal"He looked at his captor. Cinna had brought a disaster to the Republic. The mid had crumble against so many of the enemy that they looked like waves. Not even Sulla's luck had got them out of it. The young teenager was somber, captured on his very first battle. The Samnite just smiled at Pompeius, as if he were a doting grandfather. "Your consul has offered to buy you back."He turned to look behind him. "How much did he offer?" he called to one of his officers. 18,000 denarii is plundered by the Samnites from Naples. Word reaches Sulla and later Rome of the horrific sack. The Italians are able to recruit the following: Legionary: 4 denarii per man Cavalry: 5 denarii per man {Italian Eyes Only}Mutilus raises 4,000 legionaries to replace the losses he'd taken in the last 4 battles.
I'll just have them sit here for now, Della is the only one trying to maneuver quickly so I'll move on the rest of the playerbase's speed. "Sulla will ransom me?"Said Pompey with wide eyes. It seemed the old man did not want his son-in-law lingering in the enemy's hands. He could smell the fire, the ashes and the disturbing smell of burned flesh, which turned his stomach upside down.

"Three-hundred hundreds" yells back the officer.
"That's a fancy price. Your name is Gnaeus Pompeius. You're a Picentine, aren't you?"

He replied, not quite humored by having to entertain his captor.

"You're young," the bearded faux-imperator tells him. "You're the son of one of *those* men, but you're young. It's unwise to let proud men live, but you're hardly a man." He turns back to the officer, but still speaks to Pompeius. "Still, I cannot let you go for anything less than one hundred hundred-hundreds." (100,000 Gandalf )

(100,000 Gandalf ) That's a king's ransom.Thought Pompey with dismay. He would remain in the clutches of those men. "Those men? Who are *those* men?"
He asked, in stupor. "Why did you do that? Why all this?"Pompey gestures towards the city. "I can smell their flesh"

The man tilts his head, a doting look in his eyes.
"This is what legions do. That's what they did in Samnium, Lucania, Marsia, Sabinia..."
He shakes his head a little.
"But no recognition for these people who have adopted their conquerors' ways and fought in their endless wars. It is time Roma learns what it feels like."

{Roman eyes only} After the new legion is levied, Sulla plans to move his men through the night into Campania, chasing after the Samnites. Sulla's intention is to catch the foe unawares with a swift attack on their siege lines whilst they sleep, spearheaded by 2000 cavalry and the men of the veteran XII and XIII legions. The rest will be deployed in reserve in case a battle develops, constructing a fortified encampment to the rear of the Samnites,
If the surprise is successful, the XII and XIII will set fire to the encampment while the cavalry wait to cut down any who flee.

{Marsi}Quintus Poppaedius Silo, commanding some of the Marsi sieging Alba Fucens - an impressive fortress - receive word of a Roman force approaching. They send more scouts in an attempt to estimate the size of the force.
He sends word to the forces besieging Aesernia, commanded by Titus Lafrenius. He orders Lafrenius to take Aesernia and destroy it. He also sends word to Marsia proper, alerting his allies of the Roman response.

THE BATTLE OF CAPUA
Just before dawn broke over the Samnite camp, their men were given a rude awakening. The call of trumpets sounded over the early-morning silence, and soon the sounds of battle filled the air as the Romans were upon them. The men of the XII and XIII exacted a terrible vengeance for the losses of the previous battle, storming through the perimeter and setting fire to anything they could lay their hands on. An entire section of the Samnite siege line turned to chaos as men were slaughtered in their beds, killed before they even had the chance to don their arms. For perhaps half an hour or more, the scenes outside Capua were utter chaos.
Fortunately for the Samnites, Papius was alive to the danger and took control of the situation quickly. Gathering what men he could spare that were not under attack, he quickly retook his encampment and formed a coherent battle line. Enacting damage limitation, the situation turned into a general melee as the Romans then committed the rest of their legions - this time, it was the Italians who were forced to fall back from Capua, though they were saved from utter defeat by Papius once again, who rallied a spirited rearguard action to deny the Romans from a total victory. Nonetheless, a full legion's worth of men had been lost to the Romans, and the Italians were forced onto the back foot as they retreated into the interior of Magna Graecia.
Roman victory.
POST BATTLE ROLLS: Pompeius escapes from the Italians, stealing a horse and riding off into the night during the chaos. Marius suffers a minor wound. (-1 resilience for 2 days) Sulla survives Papius survives.
Romans lose 836 men, with 200 wounded (evenly split amongst the legions)
Italians lose 4000 legionaries and 550 cavalry.

The man tilts his head, a doting look in his eyes. "This is what legions do. That's what they did in Samnium, Lucania, Marsia, Sabinia..." He shakes his head a little. "But no recognition for these people who have adopted their conquerors' ways and fought in their endless wars. It is time Roma learns what it feels like." "That was ages ago, way long my father's father's time"Said Pompey, not understanding what he was saying. "You have fought with the men you kill today, you're slaughtering your own kin over nothing"He added. "I cannot understand"
.... Pompey was treated roughly, not even food to bring to his mouth, save sparsely. For the first time he felt the stab of hunger on his belly, and it angered him beyond account. He felt weakening and his captors became insufferable, beating him on ocassion. No-one dares harming him, though, at least permanently, for he was valued good coin, like a walking purse of denarii. But he felt what misery was for the first time, and anger was followed by grief and a hint of despair. One night, barely sleeping, dreaming at times with bountiful meals, he got awaken by the turmoil. Yells of men in agony, horses and the clash of steel. He leaped to his feet and acted quickly, as quick as his limbs could let him. Adrenaline rushing, he realized that his guard was gone and the camp was under attack. It took whatever remained of his strenght to find a way out. And so he did, a horse. A stray horse, riderless, with a splash of blood over its saddle. He climbed to it and rushed to the camp's perimeter, then he plunged himself to the embrace of night. Next day, he would seek the Romans, looking for their commander. Soon, he realized those were Sulla's own legions. THE BATTLE OF CAPUA
