"Salve Consul" Appius greeted the consul on a morning when they were on the move to link up with the legions of Sertorius.
They had won the war against the allies of the barbarian cimbrii days ago.
"The roman legions shall soon prevail over the german barbarians, gods bless us." Appius said, although he was under his command he knew still little of the consul personally.

"Salve Pulcher" Lepidus replied as he was joined by the man while marching in a collomn. "You've fought well. I commend you for it" Lepidus added. Hoping to find out what the man came by for.

"Thank you, consul"
Thanks due to his timely cavalry charge he had saved Sulla's collapsing flank.
"I am certain we will be glorious again in the next battle, hopefully, the last battle on roman lands" He guessed the battlefield would soon move back to politics.

Sertorius' legions arrived on foot, heralded by trumpets. Their commander rode at their fore, insistent to remain on horseback despite the horrid injuries sustained to his ribs and head. His son rode beside him, watching to prop him up if need be, with Regulus just behind. The men seemed in good humour, despite having obviously come straight from the battlefield, apparently happy to see some friendly faces on the road.

The consul was received by much pomp. Some of Lepidus his legionnaires were startled by how much the Sertorian legions were depleted. Must've been a hard fight. "Consul Sertorius, you look terrible. I will send my doctors to you at once" Lepidus said as he laid eyes on his co consul. After he greeted the man Lepidus asked "Where are those pesky Germans?"

”Salve, Consul. I was attacked during negotiations. What they could not win by force of arms they sought through cowardice.”
Sertorius winced, but waved away the concerns of his compatriot. The Legions came to a halt, standing to attention.
”We bloodied them bad. They lost four men for every one of ours. They slithered back west when I destroyed the bridge, looking for another way to cross. I suspect they are on the north bank of the river.”
The Consul turned slowly in the saddle to gesture over at the Padus, flowing in the distance.
”With our forces combined, I surmise we are at equal strength to what remains of the Cimbri. We should pursue them and end this war once and for all.”

Lepidus pondered. Where could they go, where would they be. Beyond that he wondered how things would move along now. Lepidus had his sights on glory but by the looks of it they had to share a lot of it now. Snapping out of his thought he said "Very well. Let us hunt the enemy together and see them vanquished." Lepidus concluded. "but perhaps first you should let my doctors tend to your wounds. The least I could do" Lepidus added courteously.
After the conversation Lepidus found Sulla. "Sulla, with Sertorius we must thread careful and see that we are not pushed to the background." Lepidus mind was not at ease. Not at all. He saw this popular man as a threat to everything he knew and grew up with. He couldn't be the consul that represented the old and lost to this... this new man!

”A change of dressings could not hurt. I thank you.”
Sertorius agreed, relying on his son to help him down from his horse. Thank the Gods he could still command.
”I shall send scouts north of the river. We shall find them, and root them out.”
The Consul affirmed, giving Lepidus a nod before moving off to his newly erected tent.
—-
”You are both Consuls. Fear not, you will have your share of glory.”
Sulla warily replied. Consular squabbling led to this disaster in the first place. Marius had been a New Man, and while ambitious there were few commanders more capable.
”I would counsel finishing this war quickly. A decisive blow now would do much to strengthen your reputation as a man that delivers quick victories. Sertorius can be dealt with later.”

Sertorius likewise orders his legions to form up. Though he won’t be present in the melee, the Consul is nonetheless still able to command from behind the lines. He resolves to find Consul Lepidus to plan their strategy.

With the battle done. Lepidus calls his commanders to his tent to discuss the exist strategy.
"Gentleman, you fought well and you fought hard." Lepidus said pausing to leek each of them in the eye. "Now we must discuss the tasks at hand. There's still the Tingri to our east. We've beaten them back but they are not defeated." Only Sulla knew they took a bribe to a ceasefire but Lepidus was hellbent to destroy them once and for all. Lepidus was a man who kept word. He had utterly vanquished the Cimbri and now he still had to utterly and completely destroy the Tingri. Lands were up for grasp and Rome needed it. For their economy and for the legions.

”Let them lurk in their mountains, I say. Perhaps you could seek appointment in Gaul from the Senate for the next year, if you truly wished to spend time stamping them out.”
Offered Sulla, who was cautious not to mention their own private arrangement.
”The Tigrini are only one tribe of the Helvetii, if our guide was correct. Invading would mean making war on all of them.”

Lepidus nodded in careful agreement. He had hopped his officers would be willing to commit to such a campaign. He would keep silent, see what the others thought. Giving Lepidus more time to think on his next move. First the army needed rest as the season was over as well. Lepidus his triumph stood on the agenda also.. his next assignment could very well be the pro consulate of Gaul. Many options lay before him still.
