"I would be honored, consul" Appius would have preferred one of the legions but nothing that could be done about it now.
"I shall have the cavalry support the legions in battle" Roman cavalry usually wasn't the main strength of the Roman armies

With the battle won, Lepidus had asked his commanders to be present for another strategy session. "Gentleman. We won but this is not yet over. Pulcher, you did well with the cavalry. I intend to levy a new legion. This will create room for you to lead one." Lepidus said while eyeing the man as he hung over the map. Lepidus now pointed at the map. "Sulla, we command you for killing their leader. Now we must find their new position. We must destroy them root and stem. We must push into their lands and round everyone up. They will make good additions to the slave market." Lepidus needed coin, a lot of it. So as much as he had rather destroyed the barbarian horde and their families he knew he could employ a much better tactic, slavery. Lepidus sighed. "Gentleman you have your orders." Lepidus moved within the tent, taking some grapes. "Sulla" he quickly said as the others moved away. "As I said, I commend you. You fill me with bride. Now I ask you to plan our route into their home, where we must enslave everyone in sight. The coin we then acquire are needed for our political goals. You will not be forgotten." Lepidus said with a vigor.

Sulla looked battered and bruised; a bandage had been applied to a nasty looking wound on his leg. A Tribune followed him, holding the gathered arms and armour of the Gallic King that Sulla had claimed as his prize.
"Consul. The Cimbri are still in Gaul. Let the Helvetii lick their wounds, they will not trouble us again with their king dead."
Counselled Sulla, who seemed confused at why they were neglecting the main threat. Ominously, Sertorius had not sent any word. The Praetor chose to speak frankly.
"We would be better served marching east, now our men are blooded. Deal with the Cimbri threat, and you will have all the time in the world to plunder Helvetia."
---
The Tigrini send an envoy into Lepidus' camp, wishing to speak with the Consul on behalf of their tribe.

Lepidus ticked his lip in thought. "Very well Sulla, but we will push hard then. If you are fit for march we shall leave at once." Lepidus was restless, he needed to honor and the coin. His co consul would otherwise reap the benefits. "I suppose my colleague will have encountered them by now. We must find this host and defeat it but make sure we get the credit, before the streets of Rome are filling with a Triumph for that weasel of a man." Lepidus was kind to the people but made no mistake, populares were the scum of this world in his eyes.
---
Lepidus received them, under a guard.

Sulla nodded stoically. It seemed Lepidus was keen on keeping as much of the spoils to himself as he could - none of the wealth of the baggage train had gone anywhere except the Consul's pocket.
"He has two legions, the odds of him defeating the Cimbri in the field are long. I shall send scouts to determine the position of the horde."
Lucius saluted, and made his way out of the tent. Some whores and wine would be in order.
---
The Tigrini emissary came forward, and spoke in accented Latin.
"Roman. It was our mistake to go to war with you, and now we would have peace. We would have the bodies of our dead and our king. We will return to Helvetia and trouble you no more. These are our terms."

"I agree with Praetor Sulla here, consul"
Appius said. It was much more important to inflict the decisive blow to the barbarians and be hailed as the rescuers of Rome than to sack poor barbarian lands.
"We shall send out riders to find them, we only have to use our nose and we will fend them by their stench in the air" Appius said arrogantly, though he seemed to limp. An arrow had hit his leg in battle.

With news from the scouting party being somewhat a disappointment. Lepidus now send Pulcher to scout for the Cambri force.
Lepidus sat as he received the Barbarian chief. Flanked by Sulla. Hearing him out., somewhat surprised about his ancient Latin. Lepidus stood up and got into his face and laughed. "These are your terms? I rub these terms into the dirt. You come into our lands, we drive you off it and you have the audacity to ask for the bodies of your kin without even offering something in return for it?" Lepidus probably spat on the mans face so angry he was right now. "Sulla" he exclaimed. "What do you think?" Lepidus asked.

"We should demand tribute, Consul. We are in no position to invade with the Cimbri so close, but an indemnity would be sufficient punishment for the time being. Once the Cimbri are dealt with, they can be taught good Roman justice."
Replied Sulla, speaking low so that the envoy would not hear.
---
"What we give in return is peace. We trouble Rome no more. You took all our gold from our supply train."
Grumbled the envoy in response.

After returning from his scouting mission Appius looked disappointed, as if misfortune had hit him.
"Salve Consul"
Greeted Appius, he gathered little new information and was frustrated by the lack of progress.
"There has been little new information, only a few tracks to the south that may be weeks old" Appius told the consul, it seemed the barbarians were hard to locate.

Lepidus headed the advice of his trusted councilor. "There is always more coin" Lepidus replied. He extended his arm "We can have piece for 10.000 more coins." Lepidus could use the money to ensure Sulla's career would advance.

Begrudgingly, the envoy accepted. The indemnity was small enough that it could be easily paid, with little lasting consequences for the tribe.
"Very well, Roman. We shall see your tribute paid. We shall return to our lands in peace."

Lepidus gives 5K to Sulla and the other half he holds himself. "Don't spend it on the whores Sulla." He added with it.

"You must keep this treaty from the Senate. They will not like this."
Sulla grunted, as he ordered the funds quickly taken to his tent. They would be taken quietly back to Massilla and from there to his house in Rome.

Lepidus grinned. "What treaty Sulla?" Lepidus only had taken the coin to further his and Sulla's career. Nothing was put onto paper, these Barbarians were too easy.

A rider arrives for Lepidus, running ahead of Sertorius' army on the river. He brings a message for the Consul.
