Jaime Lannister's armor wore a thin layer of dirt, as did his white cloak. He arrived at Riverrun with a contingent of twenty men, some of whome had just joined his company. They all wore Lannister Red, and flew both the banner of King Tommen Baratheon and House Lannister. They stopped before the gate and sentries of Riverrun while the river sang behind them. The siege lines were still visible, and no doubt many bodies were buried in the churling mud, the castle having been the scene of many battles over the years. It was a place of death now, until the next large flood washed away the filth. "In the name of Tommen Baratheon, the First of his name, open the gates." Jaime commanded. The keep belonged to the King before anyone else.

Harwin approached behind Jaime wordlessly, among his guard. The red and gold of Lannister felt ill fitting on his body, unnatural, even though the surcoat fit well enough. Harwin had shaved his face, and cut his long Northmen hair. Neither task had been easy, particularly the latter. He didn’t trust Lannister, and he’d be there to drive a sword into the Kingslayer’s back if he betrayed Catelyn.

It was a place of death now, until the next large flood washed away the filth. "In the name of Tommen Baratheon, the First of his name, open the gates." Jaime commanded. The keep belonged to the King before anyone else. There was some movement on the battlements and over the gatehouse appeared a familiar face. "Jaime, dearie, what's my darling doing here?"She sounds like a clucking hen, but a hundred times heavier. "Open the gates, you moronic shitheads! What're you waiting for?"The portcullis is raised and the bridge lowered. When the postern gate -not the larger one, which was cumbersome- opens Lady Genna is waiting, surrounded by men in livery -the lion conspicuously sharing place with the twin towers in the sewn surcoats- and she hurries herself to hug the man she raised. "Look at you, my beloved lion... What happened to you, darling? No mind, I will bring you a nice clean doublet and a pair of tights. I think I have some around of the right color, I'll ask my steward"Her hand caresses his cheek. "I've heard your matters here were done for, I expected you back with Cersei. What're you doing here, sweetie, has my niece messed up with you, dear? Prepare Lord Jaime a bath, you useless twats!"She yelled around and her commands were heard, she ruled the castle not her husband. "Excuse your uncle, he has rheuma, the castle's killing that old useless thing"

Oh gods be good... Jaime thought. "Aunt Genna, no need for all the fuss. I have unfinished business in the Riverlands. I have word that Lord Stannis has taken Winterfell." He added. "Lord Frey must prepare the Twins to withstand his assault. He cannot be allowed to penetrate the Riverlands. We do not have the strength to oppose both him and this pretender that has landed in the south." It was stale news, but it was all th einformation he had. "I shall return to Cersei soon enough, but more importantly the King. I am Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, after all."
As the party began to move forward he pulled Harwin close. "No harm shall befall my Aunt, or my nephew. Take hostages if you will, but they are to be spared. I promise you Lord Walder Frey and all the Freys of the Twins, but not those with Lannister blood." He knew he was not in a strong position to make demands, but he did not think this unreasonable.

Harwin gave a wordless nod, even though he knew he had no authority to spare them in the long run. He could at least ensure they were not harmed in the initial assault. This wouldn’t be a place to discuss such things either way, they were already in the thick of it. He knew all too well that he might die before the night was through.

In the low-lying foliage of the marshy lands surrounding Riverrun, Brynden Tully waited at the head of a small scouting body. About ten other members of the brotherhood lay in wait alongside him. They watched as Jaime and the cadre of men disappeared through the gates and the portcullis slammed shut. He glanced back towards the men surrounding him. As soon as they saw the gate swing open, one of them would spring back and tell the main body of the Brotherhood's force. Until then they waited and watched.

"He definetely cannot be allowed. Any men I can spare, any sword of mine shall be yours, dearie. Little I wouldn't do for you, nephew"Genna pinches his cheek. "You're all that I have left from Tywin, now, you and your sister"Her emerald eyes look at Jaime. She knew better, that whatever was said to happen between the twins wasn't too far from the truth. But lions don't concern themselves with the opinions of the sheep. "But you're your own man, Kingslayer or not, you're still my lion. I will ready some chambers for you"

"I'd sooner have them sent ahead of me with word, along with your son if he is here. How many men can you spare?" He asked, hoping to get an idea of the number of guards.

Most of them knights of the Crossing, I believe. I think I could spare fifty swords or so"She said, scratching her double chins. "To be honest, dearie, I don't know all of your uncle's cousins and such that populate this castle. I just know who they're when I see their weaselly greasy faces"
She chuckled. "My son? Well, Lyonel is here, indeed. He arrived with his wife, Crakehall, you know her"Genna looks back at her nephew with emerald eyes, like Tywin's. "Walder is with your cousins Lucion and Devan at the Rock, and I called for Ty and Will to join us here before winter reached the Rivers, but they haven't arrived yet"

"An infestation of Freys, it would seem. You would do well to keep a tighter grip on the household, Aunt. As the Starks are wont to remind us, winter is coming. Maybe even worse than Winter, Stannis." Jaime brought his stump halfway to his forehead and then lowered it, using his left hand to then stroke his brow. "Genna, the Riverlands are not safe. Things here are about to get much worse. Prepare your things, you will depart in the morning for the Rock after we break our fast, along with any useless mouths to feed in Riverrun. It is time we raise more levies from Lannisport to prepare for the inevitable attack from Stannis. Riverrun is more strongly garrisoned than I guessed which is all the better. We may still have time."
The plot would play out as it would, it was out of his hands now. He was reduced to a spectator at this point. Either way, he would win. He would not allow his kin to be murdered in their beds, however.

"My husband wouldn't be able to defend this castle even if he had thousand swords within its walls and they will not listen to me these days about it. Since he got the castle your uncle Emmon and his ilk have grown... bolder"
Genna clicks her tongue with disgust. "I've heard the own heir to the Twins is death, that much means trouble. Your cousnil Lyonel will want to remain with you, strong as a bull that one is, a good match to the dullard of his wife, that boar with moustache. I will leave him to lead the Frey knights and the men-at-arms that you want to take"
She said. "I will join my son and grandchildren in the Rock, then. Specially since this castle wouldn't keep someone like Stannis away for long"

"You won't be alone there for long. I intend to send Myrcella to the Rock as well, there are too many dangers and too few men left to prosecute the war effectively. We are almost bled dry and it seems Freys are only useful when they have the blood of houses from the Westerlands to fortify them. Edwyn dead, would make who...heir exactly?" Too many Freys with the same names. "No matter, they will take their lead from me as they did at Raventree Hall and Riverrun." He embraced his aunt, a rare sign of affection from Jaime. "It is good to see family." With everything that had been said, Jaime reconsidered. He turned to his guard. "Water and feed the horses, you will take watch shortly. Aunt, shall we go see Emmon?"

“As you say, my Lord.” Harwin replied, in a well practiced Riverland accent. He almost reached for the beard he no longer possessed. He and the others went to tend to the horses and prepare for the watch. Harwin did not feel good about leaving Lannister alone with his kin, unsure if he would keep his oath this time or prove himself a scoundrel, but there was nothing to do about that now.

"Sweet Myrcella! I shall groom her into a true Western lady, like my mother was"She said, ever mourning the lack of a daughter of her own. "I believe his daughter... That or a Walder. I cannot be bothered, nephew"Genna scowls. "It's good to see you, dearie. Follow me, then"She walks at good pace for a woman of her weight upstairs, into the keep, where the lordly solar was, in the tower overlooking the rivers. "HUSBAND"
Genna opens the door with a slam. "Jaime is here you useless twat"

Jaime smiled at the mention of his daughter. "She is blossoming into a fine young woman." He agreed. He followed Genna through the yard and into the halls, he had not long quit the these halls and now he was back. Everything seemed cyclical, but he wondered how this would play out. He did not care about Emmon, let them slit his throat. He was as useless as his Aunt measured.
"Uncle Emmon." He began "I come bearing grave news, but also news of hope." He tried to take on a cheerful tone. He assumed whatever other Freys were in Riverrun would be attracted to the Solar in order to hear what Jaime had to say.
