Edmure spends one-half of the hours of the day with his wife and daughter, whom he is starting to love, and the other half befriending the guards and the servants at Casterly Rock, an old habit of his, from his days at Riverrun. But when the night comes, the Lord formerly known as Tully wanders the castle, he tries to learn the patterns the patrols follow, he looks for secret passages and he starts planning.
Then one day, the day Lord Devan marched with his men, he decides to take advantage of the situation: he decides to try and escape. There were going to be few opportunities like this, the castle was a mess, everyone was running around making sure the army's needs were seen to. Who would notice a certain redhaired man and his wife and child leaving inconspicuously?

Even though the Lannisters had left, Sellswords still patrolled the halls of Casterly Rock, as well as a few guardsmen left behind by Devan Lannister to keep a close eye on their hostage. Edmure's amiable attitude and friendliness with the servants lends him an advantage, for despite their orders not to speak with him they find themselves sympathetic to his fate as a prisoner. One night, a commotion is caused in the castle kitchens, a fire of some sort being started and quickly spreading throughout the upper levels. As the Sellswords rush to douse the flames, Edmure is quietly smuggled away, the former Lord of Riverrun and his bride dressed as mere servants. He makes it outside of Casterly Rock, wife and child intact, but encounters one small problem. There were no horses. By some cruel accident of fate, the stables of the Rock were empty, and Edmure was forced to try and make his way through the Westerlands on foot before anyone noticed his absence and was sent to search for him.

"Praised be the Mother Above, for she kept us safe and..."
"Edmure, we've got to go. The Seven can wait" Roslin was visibly distraught, she knew they didn't time to waste, the guards would soon realize they were missing and everyone in Lannisport would be on the lookout for them.
Yes, Lannisport. They knew their best chance was to purchase passage in a trading ship. So they off they went to the docks.
Roslin had come up with their story: she was the daughter of a wealthy merchant who had eloped with a boy from the Riverlands after he had gotten her pregnant. Now the baby had been born but her father had found them and they needed to leave as quickly and as quietly as possible. Edmure was not particularly happy, he did not like lying and did not trust Westermen but he had learned his lesson, he would not let pride get in the way again, he had something to lose now. A family
They began inquiring for ships leaving Lannisport, especially for ones with White Harbour or Saltapans as their destination. They did not have any gold no, but they had valuables to offer: rings, broaches, pins, all kinds of jewelry.

Fortunately for Edmure, his wife had the brains enough to hurry him along, for already a group of guardsmen had been sent to look for the lost lord and his kin. In the docks of Lannisport they found the Old Sea Dog, a merchant ship that ran past the Ironborn blockades by taking the more dangerous waters around the south side of the Arbor. Apparently in recent weeks the Ironborn had been less hostile to trading ships in the area, and as such the first port of call would be Ryamsport. Then the ship would dock at Planky Town, Pentos, and eventually White Harbour. The captain was not a man that asked too many questions when paid well, so after Edmure and Roslin had given up a good portion of their jewellery they were allowed passage. Fortunately the ship would leave that very same day, and before the alarm could be raised the Lord Edmure was sailing off into the west.

OoC: yo, do we need more clutch rolls, or is Eddy finally free?
Edmure remained quiet, as he was playing the part of the gruff fisherman that seduced the maiden fair. Roslin, however, took every chance she had to talk to the captain and learn about the events that had unfolded during her captivity. They had a long journey ahead of them and plenty of time to kill.

They learned of more war and death. Ironborn harassed the Reach, their ships making life difficult for those who travelled close to the coast. But the captain of the Old Sea Dog was a brave one, and risked the open ocean to escape their longships. They would see no Ironborn on their journey to Ryamsport. News from the north brought tales of Bolton's defeat and the victory of Stannis Baratheon, but for now the ports of White Harbour remained open to those brave enough to risk passing the Narrow Sea, which was filled with pirates, hence their diversion to Pentos.
So far, so good. They passed Ryamsport without a hitch, buying a healthy stock of Arbor Gold before continuing on their way. The weather would take a turn for the worse during their passage through the Stepstones. Their ship was battered and bruised by the weather, and they eventually would run aground on the isle of Estermont, a storm forcing them ashore on Shipbreaker's bay...

They considered their options but there wasn't much to be considered. They still needed to get to White Harbour and they weren't going to get there on foot
They couldn't trust the Targaryen pretender, they couldn't trust the Tyrells nor the Lannisters, they couldn't trust Baelish either. All their faith was placed in Stannis, whom Edmure believed to be an honorable man.
But there weren't any Stannis followers in the Stormlands, not anymore, they had all been rooted out by the Aegon the Pretender. All the Lords and Knights who remained loyal to Stannis had left with him to the North, and that's were Edmure and a now pregnant Roslin had to go.
Sometimes, the wisest thing to do is wait: and thus Edmure, who was not a wise man, didn't want to wait but he was convinced to by Roslin, a wise woman.
He sighed and got down to work. He would at least help the captain and the crew repair the ship.

Whatever Edmure had in mind, it was dampened by the poor weather. Shipbreaker bay was aptly named, the storms around the coast raging for several days at a time, the water rising so high they flooded half the Rainwood. The crew took shelter in a small village off the coast near Estermont Castle itself, hiding from the patrols of the mercenaries that would surely claim the ship and its cargo for the Dragon King who now had conquered the Stormlands and now threatened the capital. They could tell Edmure was noble born - his manner and voice stuck out like a sore thumb, and now the crew were beginning to wonder whether it was worth selling him off to purchase repairs for their ship. Roslin silenced such talk with another of her jewelled rings, but it was clear that Edmure’s time was running out. It was either wait with the crew, and risk being sold off, or try to find passage overland with the kingdoms at war.

"Edmure, we HAVE to go now, or these men they'll..."
"No Roslin, these men have helped us get here. They have upheld their part of the bargain and we have lied to them, time after time. I'm sick of it." He dramatically paused "Besides, you are with a child again, and the road is not a place for a pregnant woman and baby, we wouldn't last a week."
One particularly tense night, Edmure decided to go see the captain of the Old Sea Dog
"We have not been honest, Captain. It is high time I corrected that: my name is Edmure Tully, rightful Lord of Riverrun."
He looked the man in the eye. He had come to respect him, Tully admired brave and honest men.
"I've lied to you and your crew, and thus I think it is fair to say that our contract is no longer valid. You have no obligation to deliver me to White Harbour anymore"
Edmure looked and sounded confident, he knew he was doing the right thing.
"You have a choice now. You can apprehend me, my wife and my child and sell me off to whomever rules these lands, god knows which Lord it is after so many years of war. You would get a miserly amount of gold, but enough to make your crew happy.
Or you can still take me to the North: I will grant you lands, which are occupied by vile men at this moment, yes, but that I am certain they will be liberated once I am restored as Lord of Riverrun. Your children and their children will become minor nobility, they'll serve at my court and they will have kind, long and bucolic lives. Your men will also be handsomely compensated: I'll write notes that will be worth hundreds of gold dragons once I reclaim my title, if it is gold that they want, or they can also join me in my quest, an act that I'll personally appreciate and see generously rewarded.
Not only that, but you will also have helped a man and his family in need. An honourable thing to do"

“I already guessed who you were, Tully. Lucky for you that you paid well, and have long since sailed past Casterly Rock.”
Grunted the captain, a balding man of middling height with a pot belly. A few of his teeth were brown and rotten, visible when he grinned as he was just now. They were seated in the inn of whatever shit hole village they found themselves in, still taking shelter from the rain, the crew growing anxious that they had not been at sea for some days.
“We head north anyway. I know this place. Estermont is nothing more than a rock, a few pebbles in the sea. The lord can barely afford his own trousers..”
The captain quaffed his ale, wiping some from his tangled red beard streaked with grey.
“If you stay with us, I’ll get you to White Harbour. For a few more of them jewels, m’lady”
His eyes glinted like emeralds, big and greedy.

"But, I offered you lan-"
Edmure was abruptly cut off by Roslin
"Shut up Edmure. Thank you, Captain. You are a good man."
She then left a beautiful silver cameo depicting her mother, Lady Bethany Rosby, as a young bride, in the captain's desk.
"I'll give you more once we reach White Harbour."

The captain nodded, pocketing his prize.
“Most gracious, lady.”
Within a few days, the rain had somewhat subsided. Some of the wood was damp, but they’d managed to drag much of the ship underneath a rocky outcrop about two miles from the village they turned to for shelter. It took the whole day, but the Old Sea Dog was seaworthy again, some dry wood hammered to the hull to patch over the cracks. The next day, they were out to sea, Shipbreaker’s Bay firmly behind them as they writhed eastwards towards Pentos. The weather held, and Edmure and Roslin would spent a few days in the least belligerent of the Free Cities, hearing rumours of war in Slaver’s Bay between the Dragon Queen and the slavers. Once the captain had picked up new cargo they were out to sea once more, and after a few weeks of sailing the pearly cliffs and snow covered beaches of White Harbour appeared overhead. Edmure was finally in the North, safe from the clutches of Lannister.

"Should you ever find your self in the Riverlands, come to Riverrun and you'll be rewarded, Captain." Roslin said and Edmure nodded along
Finally, after two years of captivity: freedom, or something that resembled it.
OoC: Thanks, Gandy. It always pains me to have mods roll and moderate one-player rps, so thank you.
