Several thousand gold dragons would be a good way to start things off.
I am still trying to strong arm unpaid loans, due to Humfrey and his commanders, from those who pulled them from the City Watch's accounts.
Devan rubs the bridge of his nose at that mention.
A lot of tiresome desk work trying to find missing coin and such.
He turns and points to the barracks, indicating where to take the gold to.
Thank you, Lord Tarly. Since my army left me, I have had little means to prove myself. This office is the only thing I have a stone to step upward.

"You still have a friend at the king's right hand, Ser Devan. The King may not realize how far your help went to give him that throne, but I have not forgotten." He turned back from the conversation long enough to direct two pages, struggling under the weight of a wooden chest, towards the barracks where Ser Devan had indicated. "I will ensure you still have stones to climb as long as I have the power to. Right now you serve an important role though, one I would not trust to any other - the City Watch will be important in these times and the king attempts to secure his position."
Randyll took the opportunity to survey the men who were still hard at work on the training field. "I don't know what Aegon and his Dornish bride plan, but I won't let good work go unrewarded. And you've done good work."

Devan listens to Lord Tarly.
At least someone remembers...
He remarks, acknowledging the words of the Lord Hand. His eyes glance at the Red Keep for a moment.
It will take more than stepping stones to gain approval once more. Cersei was my benefactor before, but at least I have a position still.
The Lannister glances back at the City Watch being drilled.
Hopefully this sorry lot can become something better by next week. I know His Grace wants us to make our move against the Faith and block them.
Devan turns back to the Reachman.
Has the King begun to move yet? Sitting in King's Landing aids our enemies after all.

"The king is preoccupied by his fear of the Faith Militant. I am doing what I can to ensure that the Faith is dealt with so we can move on to the kingdom at large. I have sent a missive to the Riverlands but I have heard nothing from them. Rumor from the Reach is that the Ironborn have been driven back, which is good for the kingdom, but unfortunate for us. I had hoped King Aegon might be able to contribute to saving the Reach, and thus earn some love from his subjects there. Some emissaries also arrived from the Vale, but there has been no commitment from them as to their loyalty. The north, of course, we know is set against us. All things considered, our position could be better."

It was not a happy knight who approached the East Barracks, though from his demeanour none could tell. Eldred Hill looked little like the boy he had been. Looked little like the knight he had dreamed of being. His was the face of a nobleman still, the features of his lady mother an unrefutable statement of parentage. And yet now those eyes of soft blue were hard grey, the skin soft as felt now bearded and scarred. His was now the face of a killer.
Her fault, his mind declared, thinking of his sister. The half-sibling who had stolen his birthright, born to a lord too feeble to have acknowledged him as the firstborn son he was. And that weakness had seen him cast out entirely, forced to live on the road until the day Lord Tywin did command an army raised. Eldred had been serving a Tyroshi then, a mistake in truth. But when the coin flowed even a noble scion of House Lefford could not refuse.
But now it was his chance to make amends. A Lannister pays his debts, and Eldred had learned enough of this Devan that he had every intention of banking on interest on his loan. So he approached in search of a place to serve. Loyally.

Even with our position... Aegon's place in the Seven Kingdoms is still thin.
Devan had hoped to be named Lord Paramount of the West and bring forth more swords, but instead, many simply left for the West.
The Reach has bled, the Stormlords refuse to contribute against Stannis Baratheon, and I lost a good chunk of my army.
Ten thousand was no laughing matter.
And the Crownlands are too bled dry of their manpower.
He sighs deeply.
Stannis Baratheon marches South with a great vengeance...
@ia
Eldred Hill was approached by knights as he came to the barracks. Once his identity was known, he was brought forth to the Lord Commander who was surveying the drilling. Devan turns and takes a good look at the newcomer. Those eyes definitely gave the bastard son away.
You're the late Lord Lefford's bastard son, aren't you?
Devan states, looking at Eldred.
What brings you here, Eldred Hill?

What brings you here, Eldred Hill?" My lord of Lannister," he took the knee with a quaint reverence, head sharply bowed. " You do me great honour." He rise was just as swift, the energy of denying hardship still bound to him as tightly as the armour he encased himself within. " Lord Lefford was as just a father as he was a servant." A smile broadened across his face. " In his place I would offer my services, to continue his oath of fealty and prove me worthy of his legacy." There was a warmth to the words, as if the words had circled his mind a hundred times before. " I am but a knight annointed on the field of battle." His smile weakened as he continued, " and my blood is of baser stock. I would, however, do only shame to my father's name if I did not at the least place myself at your feet in offerance of my services, true and lasting." Eldred felt his knee twitch as he prepared to kneel for a second time. However at the last he remained standing, holding the gaze of the man he would hope to call liege. The wars which had started seemed only to drag towards more war, conflict the likes of which he doubted would return for another generation if not more. This was his chance to make amends of a deadly slight against him.

Many returned to the Westerlands and Ser Addam one of the best in the West, was doing errands for the King, personally. It irritated him immensely that Addam betrayed him, but then again, he was always Jaime's follower. Devan returns his attention Eldred after a moment. I will at least make you a commander within the ranks, Ser Eldred. You are an anointed knight, thus no good as a foot soldier. He motions for the bastard of Lefford to rise. You shall be one of my aides and serve as a commander of a detachment of the Goldcloaks.

Status. Meaningful to the eyes of those he would have to seek out, and permament that he would not have to divert his attentions as he once did. Yes, this was welcome status. " I will prove myself the equal to any westerman." And the better of all the rest. Had he stayed with the men of gold, maybe he would not have needed to do such. However for all he could tell, those men had fallen under a northman's banner, and the rest scattered to a hundred winds. He would have to find brothers whose loyalty was more, personal. " The city shall remain safe for you, my lord." An empty promise at the moment, but perhaps he would find evidence of it soon enough.

Lord Commander Daemon of the Kingsguard arrives wearing white plate and cloak atop a Dornish stallion, his cloak pinned by a Martell sun in splendor.
"Goldicloaks, where's your commander, bring him to me now"
He commanded.

Your choice, Lord Commander.Lannister gestures between the two. My Red Cloaks are what remain of my army. Some of them are veterans of the Riverland campaigns. My Goldcloaks, on the other hand, still require necessary training. I can only spare... five hundred to a thousand men from either of those two ranks. City Watch was left in poor condition by Humfrey Waters. He nods his head in the direction of where the man was taken. Hence why I am taking in his benefactors who willingly stole money from the City Watch's funds.

Devan looks around and gestures to Ser Eldred Hill.
Ser Hill, you will take five hundred Red Cloaks and five hundred Goldcloaks to strengthen the security of the Red Keep!
