”Every inch I bend for them, they grasp for a handful more. I raised Davos from a lowborn smuggler to my Hand and yet he asked for nothing, save the cleaver for his fingertips.”Stannis replied, rather bitterly. The King, like Jon, had grown weary of the grasping of the high born. They had made the realm pay in blood, and his own brother was no exception. Robert had turned a blind eye to Baelish, Cersei, Renly and the rest. Stannis would not, and could not. He paused, and turned away to face the window. ”I am not my brother. I remember my duty to the realm, You have your leave, Snow.” "He's a good man, your Onion knight. One that doesn't realize his worth"Said Snow. "I trust your word, king Stannis"He curtly nodded and left.

Tully is admitted by Ser Farring, with the King just having finished a rather austere luncheon of bread and broth. ”Lord Edmure. You bring news.”Stannis noted, as a servant cleared away the remains. Baratheon took a draught of water to wash it down. "News of two betrayals, your majesty. Of a different feather, but betrayals nonetheless."
Ryger places the letters Edmure had received informing of Baelish's and Blackwood's actions in Stannis' table "Baelish is plotting to replace me as Lord Paramount. Blackwood disobeyed my direct orders and murdered and sent Freys to the Wall without my consent."
Tully was calm but determined "I ask for your permission to march to Harrenhal and the Twins with the Riverlander army and arrest these two men."
Stannis knew what the punishment was for treason.

Stannis went silent for some time, visibly digesting the information delivered. It was troubling news, but not at all surprising, apparently, for the King wore only a resigned expression.
”Deal with Lord Blackwood as you will, Lord Edmure. But bring Baelish to face my own judgement. Lord Littlefinger has many crimes to answer for, with this new treachery perhaps the least among them. I would have him made an example of.”
The royal finances had painted a troubling picture, and Stannis had intended on having Lord Edmure follow the leads to the true root of Baelish’s corruption. But wheels had set in motion elsewhere to force his hand. The King rose.
”I give you leave, Lord Edmure. Rally your banners and return to the Riverlands, King’s Landing can wait.”

"It shall be done, your majesty." Edmure said
But before he leaves, Ryger whispers something in his ear
"Right. A group of former Golden Company mercenaries has offered me their services. I'm interested in them. I'll take care of any unpaid ransom that is required, your majesty. Ser Ryger will send a list of their names to the Hand. Does that arrangement suit you, your majesty?"

”If you wish it.”
Replied Stannis, unconcerned with the proposal. Swords were swords, even if they were bought and paid for.

A crow bearing a letter signed by Lord Tully arrives
"Harrenhal empy. Littlefinger escaped to the Vale. Recommend closing Gulltown harbour. I ride to pursue Blackwood now."

Having recovered from wounds, due to the first Siege of Dragonstone and his long imprisonment, Rolland Storm, gilded in fresh armor, cloth bearing his sigil, and a new sword came to see the King Baratheon. For a moment, he stretches his sword arm which felt less sore by the day. His captors had been cruel and they did their best to make sure the bastard was given his due. He had recently learned that an army was sent south to reclaim the Stormlands for the King. Rolland felt that the Warrior was showing him a chance, not only to prove himself once more, but to perhaps avenge his brother's death. That knight of little note needed to pay for benefiting from Bryce's death.

Ser Rolland is admitted into the King’s apartments, with Farring and Grandison standing by the doors as Stannis looked up from the flames.
”Ser Rolland. Lord Davos informed me of your release from Dragonstone’s dungeons.”

The bastard approaches the King and knees before his liege. Though their faiths differed, his loyalty did not.
Aye, Your Grace.
Rolland answers.
Fortune certainly smiled when I saw the face of Lord Seaworth. I never thought I would see a friendly face again.
The dungeons of Dragonstone weren't like the Black Cells, but they were still harsh nonetheless.
I am sorry that I failed in my duty as your appointed Castellan, Sire.
Rolland recalled the first siege of Dragonstone, a stain upon his career.

”You held the castle, Ser, and made them bleed for it. I could ask for no more.”
Stannis had expected to lose his seat whilst in the north, but he hadn’t shared his fears with the castellan. Defeatism was bad for morale, and it had held out until the bitter end.
”I suspect that you will leave again soon to claim Nightsong from he who slew your brother at the Blackwater.”

I sure did my best to give those Reachmen and Westermen a beating.
Rolland had heard that Loras Tyrell had been severely wounded while being imprisoned.
Those pirates were hardly any better though.
He mentions to the King, recalling Aurane and his crew. On the subject of Nightsong, he nods his head.
Aye. My brother's death was a loss that I have carried through this war and it remains un-avenged... his killer has profited from his death.
Ser Philip Foote, Seven curse you.
I request the aid of soldiers, Sire, to help me reclaim the seat of my father.

”I lift the stain of your bastardy and name you Lord of Nightsong. Take five hundred of my men and march to join Lord Morrigen at Storm’s End.”
Commanded Stannis, and with a simple wave of the hand it was done.
”Reclaim your seat, Lord Caron, and then rejoin me in King’s Landing.”

I will, Your Grace.
Rolland says as he rises as a Caron now. However, there was one question to ask further.
I know the West is at peace with us. So what should I do about Ser Foote, Your Grace?

”He is nought but a squatter, with the declarations of Joffrey and Tommen declared illegitimate he will be forced to yield your seat to you or face punishment.”
The King grit his teeth.
”If he yields, let him depart in peace. If not, then he will pay with his life.”
