Determine SkillsEvery character—man, woman, or child—starts with a d4 in each available skill. Protagonists then have 9 “advances” to spend, with no more than 3 advances spent on one skill (ie, no skill can start above d10). Each advance levels up the skill by one die type. d4 < d6 < d8 < d10 <d12 < d20 Skills, by category, for quick reference: Chase | Combat | Parley | Subterfuge | Boat Climb Dash Ride Swim
| Aim Brawl Fend Heal Strike
| Command Deceive Entice Perform Will
| Hide Hunt Sense Sneak Steal
|
Determine ToolsAll Protagonists can choose any seven of the following tools, grouped by their category below. Try to keep in mind your character’s background and occupation when choosing their tools. This list is not exhaustive, if you wish to add in your own ideas for tools then this can be done so at mod approval (capped out at d8) - A spear (d8) a round shield (d10) A bow (d6) a quiver (d10), a seax (d6), a club (d6), a helmet (d6) a mail hauberk (d6), a sword (d8), a battle axe (d8) - A musical instrument (d8), a lordly ring (d6) fine robes (d6), a holy symbol (d6), prayer vestments (d6), a dark cloak (d6), poultices (d6), stylus and ink (d4)
- A horse (d20), a skiff (d10), a mule (d10), a cart (d8) Each noble starts with a d4 hoard. A king starts with a d6 hoard. Write Three AspectsThere is something special about your character, something unique separating them from anyone else, something a mere skill cannot describe. This is an Aspect. Protagonists get three of them, each one ranked at a d8. Do not be afraid to write aspects that appear disadvantageous. These aspects can be employed to earn you Ardor points which, in turn, you will need to invoke your more advantageous aspects. Bold maladies of the body or mind, such as Blind or Cowardly, can earn you Ardor quite regularly. The best aspects are those that can be seen as positive or negative, depending on the context. An aspect such as Quick to anger might work against you (earning you Ardor) in a delicate social situation, but could gain you advantage on the battlefield. Aspects may also indicate relationships. This type of aspect helps tie your character into the world and create all sorts of interesting situations to play with. Write three on your character sheet, then rank each aspect at a d8. Basic AssumptionsYou are a Germanic pagan; you are an Angle (“Englisc”); you are male; you are healthy; and you speak only your native language. If you would like to change any single one of these, it must be an Aspect. So to be a Frank instead of English would be a whole Aspect. Or, to be a woman instead of a man, would be an entire Aspect.* * = This is due to the patriarchal culture of this setting and period, making a female Anglo-Saxon warrior a unique and noteworthy element to a character in this period. Women are not expected to fulfill the role, but strength is respected and such women who can defy these expectations may grow in fame much faster than their male counterparts. Ardor and VigorAll Protagonists start with 3 points of Ardor and 3 points of Vigor. Name Your CharacterCharacter names must be in Old English, from the language spoken by the English people *before* 1066 during the Anglo-Saxon period. Avoid names with Norse or Latin origin. If you simply Google "Old English names" or something similar, many or even most sources and results that will come up are giving you names from a much different period in English history, usually either modern or renaissance. However, here are some sources which I find trustworthy: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Old_English_given_namesforums.taleworlds.com/index.php?threads/anglo-saxon-naming-for-those-wanting-an-authentic-name.204889/s-gabriel.org/names/aelfwyn/bede.htmlwww.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/english/malmesbury-oe.html

-Ælfric, son of Yffe- Born 565 AC (35) Status: widowed years past. Children: a strapping lad of a bastard and a stillbirth by lawful wife. Aspects:- One-Eyed (d8): this lord carries a grievous battle-wound, his face is marred by a scar and lacks the right eye. He does nothing to hide the deformed flesh around the old-wound, considering it to be god-like, for Wotan gave up an eye for wisdom and is no shame to be blinded in battle.
- Ambitious (d8): the prince lacks crown of gold but not ambition. Passed over in succession over a brother-son, he would rather have ruled himself. If his father’s own kingdom cannot be ruled, he would gladly take another. He is markedly ruthless and driven.
- Ætheling (d8): king’s son. Yffe was king of Deira. Two sons he begot on his women, Ælla an Ælfric, of different bearings and colouring. The later died years by and his son now rules over the kingdom. As his father’s son, he has kingly and heroic blood. Yffe was the royal grandson of Uscfrea, great-grandson of Wilgils, who claimed descent from the hero Sigegar, bearer of the treasure of the gods and fire-leaper.

Aspects:- Her beauty is subject of songs across the land (d8): Acha is fair, with a hair of molten gold to make Idunn pale of envy. Her teeth are even and white, her eyes bright and inquisitive, full of body and slender like a willow tree. Her beauty alone would make her a king’s match, not just as a mere concubine but a wife, but she also conducts herself like a queen and trueborn lady, being Ælla’s own daughter.
- King’s daughter (d8): Acha is a noble-born lady, with king’s blood running in her veins. She is used to command and be obeyed. Ring-giver, would-be mother of kings, daughter and sister to others of same rank. Her noble-bearing is apparent, not only for being attired in gold, but for her manners and poise. She holds land, dispenses justice and brokers peace between kin and foe.
- Sings and recites (d8): the king’s daughter has been blessed with charming voice and clear enunciation. She is known to perform music for husband and thegns, stories become alive by her words, and makes men, women and children alike weep, laugh and get angry with her voice. Beor the Black In the tumultuous lands of Bernicia, where conflict and brutality were commonplace, a boy named Beor was born into tragedy. His mother, a whore, had fallen during a raid while carrying him in her womb. The circumstances surrounding his conception were shrouded in darkness, as some whispered that he was the result of a brutal act, a child of violence itself. Beor's heart harbored a deep-seated hatred for the neighboring kingdom of Deira. Leading some to believe he blamed them for his mother's fate in life.
Orphaned and left to the mercy of fate, Beor's life began in hardship. He was taken in by the local church, where he found solace amidst the rituals and prayers. But the seeds of violence had already been sown within him. As he grew, it became apparent that Beor possessed an exceptional talent for violence. Often being caught torturing small animals. Eventually leading to him being expelled by the Church. Through the years he learned how to fight, first with his fists. Later with his sword. Yet, what set him apart from other warriors was not just his prowess but his brutal methods. Beor showed no mercy to his foes, refusing to spare even the most vulnerable, be it men, women, or children. His reputation for unyielding cruelty spread like wildfire throughout the kingdom.
Despite his reputation, Beor was not without complexity. Deep within him, he carried the pain of his tragic origin, the haunting absence of parents, and the knowledge that his existence was tied to violence. As he clutched the hilt of his sword, the passion for violence burned within him, driving him to carve his name into history through blood and iron.
Beor struggled with his unquenchable thirst for violence. As he found success on the battlefield, he often sought victims to quinch his thirst. Sometimes even the innocent or ones he was sent for to protect. In the end, Beor desired one thing above violence. He yearned for recognition, a title, and lands of his own. But even more than that, Beor longed for someone to share his life, a woman who could understand the complexities that lay beneath his hardened exterior. Yet, the darkness of his reputation and his brutal methods made it difficult for others to see beyond the surface.
With his red beard and black hair, a stark contrast that mirrored his inner conflict, Beor stood ready to carve his destiny. In the employ of King Aethelfrith, he knew that the path to the titles, land, and companionship he sought would be paved with the blood of his enemies and the shadows of his past.
