It had been a few weeks since Lewyn had been ordered to the south to take command of the Dornish host and as he arrived in Sunspear he was escorted up to the chambers of Prince Doran Martell. The prince frowns upon seeing his uncle clad in the White Cloak of the Kings Guard. Preparations were being made even now for a trip to the Boneway.
"Uncle what brings you so far south without any of the Royal family." Doran frowns waiting for the man's answer.
Lewyn sighed he knew this would be an awkward conversation at best. Doran would not like it.
"The King has ordered me to take command of the Dornish host and move it north to aid in the fighting. He has also decreed that the princess will remain in Maegor's Holdfast for her safety for the duration of the conflict." Lewyn pauses watching his nephew.
Doran's eye flash with anger. "The king presumes to much if he things he can tell me who will command my armies. Uncle, and to leave Elia in the holdfast. To not send her to Dragonstone." He pauses the kings threat was implicit. Do as I order or else. It wouldn't work not this time.
"Word has reached us of the Lord Hand's defeat to the rebels will now be able to move to the capital it was my intention to march the army North to defend King's Landing or move from there as needed. It seems you will be joining on the march uncle. In truth you are the better field commander so when it comes time for battle I will give you control of the men, but these men answer to me not to Aerys. I do not take kindly to the king trying to impose his will on my house. Especially after his son dishonored it so blatantly."
Lewyn nods accepting the decision. As long as it looked to Aerys like he was in control of things here it would probably work out.
"Doran be careful the king is not in his right mind, and I would not want anyone in my family to be accused of treason by the king." He paused letting the words hang in the air.
Doran nodded taking them in as he said "Go we join the armies soon. I'm sure Oberyn will be happy to see you."

The Prince is led to the same tent as earlier. Doran sits looking tired as he examines signs a document and seals it. "Prince Rheagar sit." He says gesturing to a chair now in the room. "The meeting with your father was interesting." He pauses waiting to here the princes response.

"I am surprised he let us leave with our heads." The Prince said quietly. He looked quite wearied as he sank into the offered chair. "Though he has sixty thousand men at his back, I believe cousin Robert to be the lesser of our threats."
He grimaced. "If you are with me, we can win victory not just on the battlefield. I mean to call a council once the fighting is done. This cannot be allowed to go on for any longer."

Prince Doran studied the weary prince it was quite the picture so different from the triumphant victor of the Harrenhal Tourney.
"Let me speak plainly Prince Rheagar. I did not call my banners and march twenty thousand men North because of your father or you." He pauses to examine the prince again. "I will not take any actions that endanger Elia. But you are correct this can not be allowed to go on." He sighs, "Your actions put us in an unenviable position. Even if we succeed on the battlefield it will be hard to bring the rebel houses back in line. The North and the Vale are fortresses much like Dorne, and the Stormlords have a long proud martial history. If we fail than who knows what Aerys will do."

Rhaegar gave a slight smile. "Oh, I know blood runs thicker than oaths in Dorne, Doran. I am no fool. One day Elia's son will be king. My son. Whether you like me or not, we must be aligned in all things."
He gave a slight pause, brow furrowed in consternation. Doran's insinuation that this was all his own fault stung him visibly, no less because a part of him believed it to be true.
"I do not think they will fight until the bitter end. Nor do I intend to make them." He finally said, as if the thought of their resistance perplexed him. "I will break their armies then offer generous terms. Hoster Tully and Jon Arryn are not as young nor as angry as Lord Baratheon. I believe we can reach an accord that will end their fears of my father's tyranny."

Doran studies Rhaegar feeling the Prince was looking at this optimistically. "I intend to see Elia as Queen and my nephew one day on the throne. On this we are aliened, but what of the young Lord Stark? Lord Baratheon may be hot headed, but it is Stark that has the most cause to be angry." Doran looks to Rhaegar. "Have you made any offers to Tywin? The wests silence is deafening, and if he decides to side against the crown." Doran trails off his meaning clear.

"Stark..." He hesitated for a moment. There were still some things he had kept secret. Things that the realm at large would not like. "I will do what I can to make my peace with Stark. Their house has seen too much death already."
There must always be a Stark in Winterfell, Lyanna had said. She had told him much of her kin, including the now Lord Eddard.
"I have written to Lord Tywin, though whether he will move or not I cannot say." Rhaegar mused. "I would rather deal with him in victory than scrape and beg from him in defeat. I fear that his pride is still wounded by my father's continued insults."

Doran nods, "I hope you are right for all our sakes Rheagar."
He leaned back thinking. He would be of little use here. It was time to return to Dorne with what he learned.
"I will leave Lewyn and Oberyn in charge of the host while I return south to Dorne he will march with. I am not much use on a battle field, and I want to prepare Sunspear for what comes after."
