The Twins guards the only reliable crossing over the Green Fork in the entire northern Riverlands, making it an immensely strategic location that has proven the bedrock of the Frey fortune. Lord Walder Frey rules the Twins as Lord of the Crossing, and his immense brood fill almost every chamber in the castle. It is a raucous and lively castle, suited to Lord Walder's own fiendish appetites. In response, Lord Walder delivers a message through one of his numerous weasel-faced sons; he requests that Lord Eddard enters the Twins with ten men to treat with him in person.

Eddard respects the invitation of Lord Frey. Greeting him as he is led before him.
"Lord Frey, you are in good health I see." Eddard said graciously. Flanked by his most trusted men. Frey had a reputation as a hard man.. clearly meant for his performance in the bed. Considering the many children he has fathered.
"I hope that you will allow me, my men and my army passage towards Riverrun. I am to wed the lady Catelyn Tully." As Eddard tried to recall he vaguely remembers Frey has no love for the tully's but he hopes common sense and some respect for his liege lord, Tully, would compel the man to open the passage from the Twins.

Lord Walder sat high upon a raised dais on an oaken throne, the two castles of Frey embroidered at the top, looming down over the scores of children and grandchildren like a withered vulture.
"Heh, young Lord Stark. Better health than your father, I hear. An unfortunate tale. Heh."
Walder Frey leered forward from his throne. Even his sons seemed unsure whether it was a jape.
"Little Cat, I remember. Pretty girl. You are a lucky man, Lord Stark. Heh. Shame you could not meet one of my daughters first." Old Walder licked his lips.
Ser Stevron cleared his throat, the heir to the Twins stepping forward. "Lord Father. Lord Stark is our guest. We should offer him bread and salt, put his mind at eyes in times like these."
Walder waved a withered hand irritably. "Fine, fine. Bread and salt. You are not lord Frey yet, boy. Do not forget it." Stevron was no 'boy', being almost fifty with grey around his temples, but that did not matter to Old Walder Frey. "You come south with twenty thousand witnesses do you? Heh. Want all those men to carry your wife off to her bedding?"
A few servants came out to offer Stark the customary guest rite.
"You want revenge, don't you boy? Heh. You and that brave Lord Baratheon that I keep hearing about. Heh."

Eddard grinned a little. Youth overcoming him.
"Revange is what I seek Lord Frey and if 20,000 Northerners are needed to ensure I get it I'll march with them endless." His father and brother crossed his mind a bit.. before snapping out of it at the arrival of bread. Of which he broke some and thanked his host for the kindness shown.
"Lord Frey I would hope that you will grant me passage. Indeed by events unfolding my fate, life and hearth are to be shared with lady Catlyn. I will be hence forth tied to the Riverlands as she will be to the North." It wasnt his choice but Eddard dutyfully did what he had to. "I need to safe my sister from the clutches of the foul prince Lord Frey. I hope you will let me, she's the only family I have left." Eddard wanted to move on but be curtious as well.

"Tied to the Riverlands, eh? Heh."
Lord Frey sucked his teeth, beady eyes sizing up the Stark boy as he leaned forward.
"Well boy. I believe I can let you cross my bridge."
Walder licked his lips.
"If you take one of my boys to ride with you, that is. We shall march south soon. Well I will not, heh, but my sons will. It would do me a great honour to have one ride in your host when you march on King's Landing, heh."

Eddard sighed of relief. Ebnthousiasticly saying "Thank you Lord Frey, the North will remember this and your son or even sons are welcome to join me." Eddard was quick to leave, his army had a long march to go.

So did Eddard Stark leave, with 'Black' Walder Frey joining his household as a knight.
