Robert’s Rebellion: 282 AC
After the apparent abduction of Lyanna Stark by Rhaegar Targaryen, the Lords Rickard and Brandon Stark sought justice. At the hand of King Aerys, they were gruesomely executed for their disloyalty. The King, paranoid at the growing network of familial relations between his mightiest bannermen, then turned his attention to Lyanna's betrothed and her brother, and demanded from their guardian Jon Arryn of the Eyrie a gift of their heads on a spike.
Predictably, Jon refused, and the two young lords raised their standards in rebellion, capturing the loyalist stronghold of Gulltown. Initially dismissed as a nuisance, Robert and Eddard were allowed to return to their domains unchecked. After a daring cross over the Fingers, Eddard rallied the North, while Robert has won over the recalcitrant Stormlords with a stunning victory at Summerhall. Stark and Arryn's promise to wed the Tully sisters has drawn Lord Hoster into the uprising.
With half the kingdoms up in arms, Aerys has entrusted his young and energetic Hand, Lord Connington, with the task of putting down this nascent rebellion and bringing Lord Baratheon's head to him as a gift. Though the Prince is missing and the King insane, the remaining kingdoms rally nonetheless to the defence of the Dragonlords. All watch Lord Tywin, who sits and broods in Casterly Rock upon old slights.
