The Palatine manse of the Cassia Longini is one of the few remaining noble villas on the hill, overshadowed by the palatial complex of the Julio Claudian emperors that has swallowed the rest of the hill over the previous century. It still retains the Republican grandeur of the family, and proves that there are still those of the old blood that have wealth enough to keep their ancient name. {Income:}Starting amount: 1000

Titianus is welcomed into the palatine manse of the Cassian clan, their maternal and paternal pedigree on display in the atrium in the form of marble busts, grand statues, and the death masks of those who achieved the lofty heights of consul. Unlike many old Republican families, the Casii still maintained their illustrious wealth, and the old Longinus had managed to recover much of the property and fortune that was briefly confiscated from him towards the end of the reign of Nero. Among the notable displays were a bust of Cassius Longinus the tyrannicide, likely concealed during the reign of the Julians, as well as a likeness of Marcus Aemilius Lepidus of Triumviral fame.
”Greetings, noble Consul.”
Cassius joined his guest in the atrium. The old man wore a loose fitting tunic in the new fashion and was supporting his weight with a cane. Slaves came out with fruits and wine.
”To what do I owe the honour of this call?”
Old Cassius gently lowered himself to sit on one of the couches.

The old man wore a loose fitting tunic in the new fashion and was supporting his weight with a cane. Slaves came out with fruits and wine. ”To what do I owe the honour of this call?”Old Cassius gently lowered himself to sit on one of the couches. The consul took a seat. He was stocky of build and he moved like a man much younger. He noticed the likeness of the tyranicide and many others. Cassius was of noble and old blood. But these days, that amounted to nothing. Piso had been slaughterd alongside Galba, and both were of senatorial blood. It was spilled all the same. Titianus, hairy and freckled, looked like someone the old senator was acquainted with, but that was not a matter of discussion. "I have a son of good age. A wee lad that needs to marry and bear children"
He said. Titianus was rather abrupt and not much into platitudes. "I believe you paraded your kin before my brother, but I must say Otho might rather have had Corbulo than his daughters"
The consul chuckled. "Not that I care, I have enjoyed the pleasures of the flesh as much as any respectable Roman"
In the Domus Aurea, when the tyrant lived, one could indulge.

Cassius did not smile.
"Noble Caesar will soon find a suitable wife, I am certain."
He replied in his typically hoarse manner. The older senator enunciated his words slowly, every syllable carefully selected. Just as little was revealed in his speech as in that leathery mask of a face, as still and implacable as the marble likeness of his ancient namesake.
"My own son is now a man himself. I would see him serve the state as his forefathers have done."
Cassius Lepidus, as he was sometimes known, was conspicuously absent.
"The Republic needs good, stout men, of virtuous blood and honourable character. More men like our noble Caesar."
He suddenly turned habitually to genuflect, as if the invisible spectre of Otho was with them demanding homage in that very moment.
"My son would be honoured to assist in whichever capacity the republic demands. Alas, my old bones preclude me from venturing too far from my own comforts. Time makes weak men of us all."
Likely, the regret in his voice was feigned.

"He shall serve in my staff when time comes. I'm certain I shall stand as Caesar's laegatus, if it is needed. I will not shy from it"
He leaned on an elbow, changing posture on the couch.
"But I'm more keen on your female kin, Cassius"
Titianus look around, glancing the statues and frescoes before speaking.
"My son is of age. So is Corbulo's daughter. A good match, don't you think? Caesar himself will approve the match"

"If Caesar approves, who am I to deny him?"
Replied the aged senator, enigmatically.
"So long as he is a man of fitting status then I must consent."

Otho Augustus' men come calling at Cassius Longinus' doors, the very morning after word spread through the seven hills that the new murderous Caesar was marching off with legions to the north.
They demand that Cassius Longinus and his son come to the Augustan halls with haste for their Caesar has a request for them.
