"Romans, attack"Cinna would order his legionaries to attack the Bruttian capital. With only a garrison in the capital, the Romans expected little resistance. Like usual Cinna was in front of his troops, imploring them to follow him in the attack. "The Bruttians will feel Roman steel today!"
When Cinna drew his blade the legionaries advanced to the enemy capital. (Speed-rolling it so forgive the brevity) After a hard fought battle, the first wave of the Roman attack is repulsed. Cinna loses 1450 men in the engagement. The garrison requests terms with the Romans.

They will be here imminently, with the soldiers given little time to prepare for battle.

A man in finery with two young boys - also in equestrian costume - hurriedly approaches the Roman camp lines. They're nearly running, the older man yelling at his sons to keep up while they lug large bags alongside them.
"Sir, a man named Titus Herennius is here to surrender. He says he was until recently one of the Italian tribunes. He brings his sons with him."

"Stay alert, soldiers of Rome"
Cinna implored his soldiers, not really trusting this sudden "surrender" as of yet. He suspected some kind of trick that the Italians were playing.
"And what terms would the tribune demand for a surrender? I can not believe that he revolts against Rome only to surrender so quickly"
Cinna replied, for all what he knew these young boys behind the man could just be some peasant's boys.
"But if genuine then terms can be arranged so further bloodshed can be avoided"
Though Cinna was willingly to give this a chance he made sure that the legions would remain alert and focused.

"Please tell Consul Cinna that I only ask for amnesty. In return, I surrender myself, my two sons, and six-thousand denarii worth of gold plate."
Titus Herennius, as he named himself, looked quite weary.

"It is good that you have come to me, for i am friendly to the cause of citizenship unlike most of our August assembly"
Cinna would nod and approve of the offer, though he still remained a bit suspicious.
"Then we must now attempt to disarm the legions that are under your disposal. If they lay down arms peacefully now i will see them no further harm.
Although Cinna had an appetite for war it pained him that those who he called brothers had turned their backs to Rome. Many of these Italians were often the backbone of the Roman armies. It was perhaps easy to fight outsiders of the republic but never had he expected to fight italians.

"That is the thing..."
Herennius exhales a deep reserve of tension.
"The legions have mutinied against me. So I was left with no choice but to flee for my life."
Then he offered a forced smile.
"But I know where they are, and they are quite headless for the time being."

"And where are they then...?"
Cinna asked, he would make sure to send scouts first to confirm any targets. Cinna, of course, had never seen the man before and for what it was worth it, he could be just an imposter to lure him into a trap.

"I can lead you to them. The camp is still where it was this morning."
He gestures over his shoulder, as if one could see through hills and trees all the way to some specific space.

"Then we shall march to their positions"
Cinna said, somewhat still distrustful of this Titus. After the conversation was finished, Cinna would discuss the current situation with his legates. Soon scouts were deployed on the roads to enemy camp. They were explicitly told to watch out for any signs of ambush or betrayal. Titus' guards were also informed that they were to kill Titus immediately if there was some kind of betrayal from his side.

"I can ride with your scouts to show them the way? It should be easy to sneak up on the legions."

"I do not think that will be necessary, we have been in the area for a while now. My recently recruited soldiers are from the region of Bruttium"
Said Cinna, not trusting Herennius until the legions would be actually be defeated. Cinna's own scouts from Bruttium would suffice.
'"How many legions did you command, good man?"
Asked Cinna, the more information he could gather the better.
"If everything goes well you shall be handsomely rewarded, and i will keep to my word."

"Most generous, thank you."
Herennius nods.
"Six legions."
