Silo arrives accompanied by several other Italic notables. "Salve friends"
The Aedile greeted Silo with a firm handshake. A banquet of food was prepared for his Italian allies beforehand so that they could enjoy themselves. "I assume that you have heard the latest news from the senate?"Decianus aksed his Italian ally politely, surely the Italians knew already and Decianus surmised they would not like it.

Sertorius the younger arrives to see Decianus, the nephew of his former brother-in-law Lucius Saturninus. "Who has arrived at my villa?"Decianus asked to a slave who had informed him of Sertorius' arrival. "Quintus Sertorius, dominus"The slave answered. Suddenly Decianus felt a mix of emotions. Surprised because he had not heard of the Sertorians for a few years now but also anxiety. For Sertorius knew what he had done in Etruria. Decianus had washed away the memories of the campaign to the back of his mind. Few minutes later, Sertorius was allowed inside the vila. "Salve Sertorius"
Decianus greeted the son of the former consul. He tried his best to supress his anxiety and appear to be friendly.

"We are not surprised. I fear that the Samnites will not take the news well. Many of them numbered in the legions lost in Macedonia."
Replied Silo, ambiguously, taking a sip of the offered wine.
"But it was a near thing. Perhaps with the right men out of the picture, such efforts could pass at the second attempt." Sertorius the younger arrives to see Decianus, the nephew of his former brother-in-law Lucius Saturninus. Decianus greeted the son of the former consul. He tried his best to supress his anxiety and appear to be friendly. "Salve, Decianus."Sertorius was robust and handsome as his father had been, and tall for a Roman, standing a head above most other men. He gave the Aedile a firm handshake."I regret I did not come to see you sooner. I have only recently returned from Greece, to then find my father at death's door from sickness."
If there was any grief, it was done in private, as a true Roman would. There would be no tears shed in public. "Sadly, he passed to the next life not a few weeks past. Though I doubt many in this city know it."He sounded bitter at that. A man who had once been hailed as the next Marius, undone by petty politics.
"I have returned to Roma to find his estates and properties in a sorry state, picked at by the vultures of the Senate. Lesser men."
Some Nobility they were, buying up his estates on the cheap just as they hounded him for his debts. The young man smiled thinly.
"I hope to now defend his reputation, unfairly tarnished as it is."

"I hope to now defend his reputation, unfairly tarnished as it is." "Yes, there's a popular outcry over the defeat in Greece in the streets of Rome"
And like usual it were the Italian allies who paid dearly with their lives for the loss. That the senate even refused to give them a scrap was much telling how much they cared. "I do not have much faith in the senate. Atellus, that weasel, claimed the bill i put forward in the senate was his but then voted against it"Decianus had grown to hate the man personally after he had attempted to divest him from his position of tribune. Likewise, the aedile drank from his wine. "There might be more chance of a bill passing through the Plebeian council with the right concessions to Roman people, Aedile Drusus will be a candidate for next year's tribunate."-----------------------"I offer you my sympathies, he was a good man, he will be remembered as the savior of Rome"Decianus said, perhaps sorrowful at the passing of a man who could have been so much more. He recalled the many conversation between Sertorius and Saturninus when he was younger.
"It is a shame to what happened to your father's properties, now lesser people with no qualities inhabit them. But i will help you to re-establish yourself in the city."
Decianus offered, as a gesture of friendship. Perhaps it was time to re-establish the alliance between their families. Saturninus and the late Sertorius were close allies. "Hopefully, one day, Rome will remember your father as a hero again."

Silo was no hardliner, but there were many that called for their rights to be defended by the sword.--- "You have my thanks, Decianus. I would gladly accept."Sertorius gave a small smile in response."I have ambitions to enter the Senate and pursue a career in public office. With my new inheritance, I now have the financial means to do so. But I lack the necessary connections."Decianus would be a fine ally, but he was a young man, the nephew of a traitor besides. Just as the elder Sertorius attached himself to Marius, this one would need a good patron. Perhaps an alliance that could be sealed with a marriage, preferably to a family of noble blood. There would be nope of respect otherwise, with the only Consul in the long history of the Sertorian clan being his own father. They had not even been citizens for a century."I find myself a bachelor, as does my dearest sister, though her name is naturally associated with that of your late uncle."

"I understand their anger all too well. I shall try to get consul Lepidus support such a move through the Plebeian council, his support would give our cause a huge boost"Even though Lepidus is a patrician himself, his support would make things much easier in the council. "It is a sad affair that our August assembly even refuses to give a scrap to our allies. The conservatives like Metellus and Crassus block every change in the senate"Decianus simply did not understood why they did not see the importance and urgency of the issue. Perhaps they were just busy self serving them. -------------------------------- "Oh Sertoria, how is she and my little niece doing?. Perhaps bring them to this city so i can visit them more often"
Shamefully, Decianus had neglected his little young niece, Appuleia, when he returned to Rome. Politics had consumed his life last years. "Hmm, i know that Aedile Drusus has an unmarried sister, the Aedile is getting more famous by day. Then there is also the sister of Cinna, though he went to the East and has been there for over a year now."Both were populists, though little did Decianus know about Cinna other than he is a man of the military."Do not fret, i will find an attractive match for the mother of my niece" Marriages ment alliances, and alliances mean more power for the populist cause.

"Perhaps I should meet this Drusus myself. I have heard much of his reputation for honesty and honour even after but a few days in the city."
The Livii were among the most famous clans in the Republic, boasting several Consuls, Censors and even Dictators amongst their storied ancestry. They would be a fine match, but Sertorius suspected that he would be one suitor amongst many for her hand. Cinna he knew less of, though as a Cornelian he was at least of haughty Patrician stock. The younger man gave a nod.
"They are well enough. It has been difficult for all of my kin. But we shall survive."

"You should, he is a fine man, who seeks to enter the tribunate next year"
Decianus added, he surmised that next year's tribunate could be rather interesting.
"I think the son of Consul Lepdidus finds himself an unwed man, he is a friend of mine, perhaps i should arrange something?"
If Lepdius could fully be connected into the Populist camp then that would give them a big boost.
