Mazaka opens its gates to Gordius, with the puppet king Epiphanes to be delivered to him in chains by the resentful nobles.
Crassus has no choice but to retreat, either south into Cilicia or westwards towards Asia, which is now known to be under siege by Mithridates.
---
The Romans retreat into Cilicia.

Gordius castrates Ephiphanes, kills all his male relatives, and sends the females back to Mithrades palace, minus two pretty , but minor daughters. Its always good to keep some of the old blood alive.

Seeing the defeat of Rome in the region, one of the two warring Syrian Kings, Antiochus VIII, concludes an alliance with Mithridates in an attempt to curry his favour. The King of Kings agrees to leave Roman Cilicia to the Syrians in exchange for troops. Antiochus sends over 2000 Thorikitai (Heavy Infantry), 3000 Thereuphoroi (Light Infantry) and 1000 Horsemen. They will arrive in 24 hours.
Gordius is called upon by the King of Kings to fortify the new conquest of Cappadocia and to simply bottle up the Romans in Cilicia for the time being, considering their inability to escape by sea.

Gordius begins fortifying the walls of Mazaka , stock piling goods and food. Scouts are sent to keep watch on the passages into Cilicia, It would be foolish to march on Tarsos, gordius had no way of knowing how well the Romans could resupply and get new forces from over the sea.

Gordius is looking over maps when Mithrades arrives. He wasnt one for much ceremony, even with the Great King. It is rather yellow and faded. {Map}

Mithy, not expecting the pomp in the field either countered sharply "What are we facing good Gordius and can we band together to push the Romans into the sea."

"I think we will need to beat them up in the highlands or passes, rather than the lowlands around Tarsus, Lord. Once we do that, we can pursue them down to the city. It would be hard to cut them off , since Ive heard they have recently built a large navy. " He commented. "A Truce and their acceptance of your gains, is perhaps the best we could hope for then." He shook his head, " but we know how good their word is, we know they will be back."

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Asia, we shall fight on the seas, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength on land, we shall defend our continent, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this land or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our people beyond the reach of Rome, armed by us, would carry on the struggle, until, in the God’s good time, the world, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the Roman menace.”

A missive arrives from Sulla, bearing an offering of terms; Mithridates is to leave his conquests and return to pre-war borders, and pay a substantial indemnity for the damage caused to the Republic.
Otherwise, Sulla offers battle on the Anatolian plateau to settle the matter with the sword.

"Fabius Maximus, one of there most well known generals. Force them to chase across the barren plains , We have already gathered all the food from the regions. Their massive army will not be able to support themselves. Let Starvation and attrition wear them down. " Gordius replied. "We could also harass them in the mountain passes. Those passes go up 2,500 meters, let them suffer in the sudden cold."
