The indemnity is much too high, so the Greeks flatly refuse any treaty and prepare for battle.

Proconsulate forces - 14,425 men - Commanded by Gaius Fabius Maximus Legio XVI - 400 cavalry + 3,000 men Legio VIII Sicilia - 400 cavalry + 4,000 men Legio XIX Firma - 400 cavalry + 4,000 men Thessalian Cavalry - 325 cavalry Thracian Cavalry - 1,900 cavalry Illyrian Legions - 7,600 men - Commanded by Publius Sulla Legio XIX Classica - 400 cavalry + 3,400 men Legio XXI Lepidus Pia Fidelis - 400 cavalry + 3,400 men War Loot: 44,000 - 11,072 = 32,928 With the Greeks having flatly refused, Atellus steels himself and prepares to deal his foe another bloody nose. Perhaps more lost sons of other cities will ensure the leadership of league bows to Rome’s demands without condition. As such, orders are relayed to the army. They will confront their foe who gathers at Delphi and make an example of the rebellious Greeks once more!

After a short and brutal engagement, the Greeks are once again driven back by the Romans, albeit not before bloodying the Romans considerably. The Greeks retreat behind the walls of Delphi, and seeing the writing on the wall, sue for peace with the Romans on the previous terms offered by the Pro-Consul.
1000 Legionaries killed 217 Cavalry killed
---
4250 Greeks killed 1200 Heavy Hoplites 1000 Elite Hoplites 1000 light hoplites 400 Elite Pikes 400 Greek cavalry 250 Thessalian cavalry

Once more, victory was secured and this time, the Greeks were fully cowed. The Pro-Consul repeats his terms to the enemy; demanding the leadership of this failed league be brought to him, that Athens pay for the re-establishment of the Corinth colony, that all prisoners and standards captured be returned to his army and thus to Rome, that the armies of the league be disbanded, that an indemnity of eighty five-thousand be paid in full, that this league be disbanded in its totality, and that the regions and its cities return to what they were before this ill-advised rebellion began. The indemnity and the league's forceful disbandment was ticked up cause the Greeks refused the terms before and he would not offer absolutely similar ones to a foolish enemy.

After having caused so much trouble in the first place, the Greeks regarded a return to the status quo as being largely forgiving. They are able to pay 42,000 of that indemnity immediately, paid for by a tax from the cities, and duly return the Roman prisoners taken from the battle and Corinth. Finally, the Greek soldiers went home, but the initial leaders of the revolt, being killed by Mugillanus, are nowhere to be found. Instead, the Greeks offer hostages from their leading cities and their commander Diogenes, who had inherited a defensive war from his Mithridatic aligned predecessors.

The Proconsul accepts the hostages from the leading families and the commander Diogenes. The half paid indemnity is... acceptable, yet the Roman states that he expects it to be paid in full, along with the payment to re-establish the Corinth colony by Athens, within the next five years. If these are not fulfilled in that time, the Republic will not look kindly upon this. Atellus knows when its best to not kick the horse any further and give it some room to breathe. However, he made it clear that the Greeks were expected to fulfill their indemnity given that Rome will not sack cities like Delphi, Thebes, nor Athens, in retaliation for the Greeks destroying Corinth and disturbing the relative peace of this region.

Proconsulate forces - 14,425 men - Commanded by Gaius Fabius Maximus Legio XVI Macedonia - 369 cavalry + 3,000 men Legio VIII Sicilia - 369 cavalry + 3,750 men Legio XIX Firma - 400 cavalry + 4,000 men Thessalian Cavalry - 294 cavalry Thracian Cavalry - 1,869 cavalry Illyrian Legions - 7,600 men - Commanded by Publius Sulla Legio XIX Classica - 369 cavalry + 3,150 men Legio XXI Lepidus Pia Fidelis - 369 cavalry + 3,150 men War Loot: 32,928 With the rebellion concluded, Atellus could breathe easier. This was different than Sicilia, not only in scale, but his luck faired better than on the island. He had been cornered after all with the rebels ready to swarm his camp. Fortuna was on his side though. As a reward for their services, the Proconsul turns to the Thessalian Greeks and the Thracian allies who had been instrumental in this victory. He offers them the chance to settle in a colony, or two, that he plans to build. He suggested, to the Greeks, a settlement at the ruins of Pharsalus. To the Thracians, he suggests one further north in Macedonia. If not, he planned to combine the two into one colony situated somewhere in Thessaly or Macedonia. The legions are given their rest as XIX, VIII, and XVI are given new orders for the upcoming policing actions in the region. Atellus then decides to meet with Publius once more. I thank the Consul and you for your aid, Publius. I plan to let all of the Senate know of your contributions. There was much to give the the Senate; the eagle of the XVII, the hostages of the major cities, Commander Diogenes, and the part of the indemnity. Atellus will ensure the remainder is paid up in due time. The Roman prisoners, numbering 2,000, that were returned would also be offered the chance to settle after the long war. A chance for them to find peace. Hopefully I can be re-elected to this office so I can focus on Greece as I did with Sicilia. Although… the news from Rome is troubling… I hope the Eastern victories and those from Africa will calm things.

"I am no political man, Pro-Consul. But I think we can all agree that an end to these wars is welcome."
Agreed Publius, having changed from his armour to a simple tunic. The Civic Crown sat neatly across his closely-cropped head. After the battle, he had made straight for a hot bath, and after several months of long campaigning it felt like Elysium to be back in civilised quarters again, without fear of the enemy bearing down at any moment.
"I am surprised you do not seek to return to the capital if things are so bad at home." He ventured, deciding in that moment to adopt a different tact. "A man of your stature, twice a Consul, would surely bring some much needed stability to Rome."

You would be right to suggest so, Publius, but like with how I handled Sicilia, I feel my work here is not completed.
Atellus pauses to glance to the left of them where the Thracians were feasting from their victory and the Thessalians were doing the same. The Roman turns some more, reviewing the scene of victory that had come across the entire encampment.
The cities need rebuilding, colonies re-established, order restored, and such. I have a mind to head North to see tribes that are giving our Thracians allies trouble are given a lesson as well.
The Proconsul did not say anything further than that. He had enemies in the Senate and it might be best to stay away for a time. Although the prospect of troubles of Rome were alarming.
My good brother, Metellus, plans to run for the Consul’s chairs. His popularity will certainly bring stability to Rome.
Atellus looks once more at the army.
We will see though. Likely have to wait and see about news of what is to come in Asia. I have told the couriers to keep a look out for any reports coming across the Aegean.

"No offence, Pro-Consul, but that sounds a job for a man of lesser status."
Replied Sulla, with a shrug.
"There are plenty of men willing to prove themselves looking for such a chance. What do you have left to prove?"

A missive brought word from Rome.
"salve pro consul,
I congratulate you on your victories and I hope Publius and my legions served you with distinction.
With the fighting over, I request to send Publius to Rome and have the legions resume garrison duty in Illlyria.
Signed,
Marcus Aemilius Lepidus"

What do you have left to prove?" Two missives caught the attention of the Proconsul before he could answer Sulla. One was a message from Consul Lepidus and another was word from the East. The couriers present salute the Proconsul before departing. Seems the East is pacified. Mithridates was captured at the River Iris and his army was annihilated by the Proconsul Sulla. Asia is once more under the grasp of the Republic.Atellus tells Publius as he reads the letter. Consul Lepidus requests your return to Rome and that the Illyrian Legions return to the garrison in Illyricum. He speaks of the contents of the other letter. I will be returning to Rome with the Eighth to be in my triumph, Publius. Care to join me on the road back home?

"It would be my honour to join you in your triumph, commander."
Said Publius, who was returning to Rome whether requested or not. Having bled with the legions, it was only fair that he take part in the celebrations.

The Settlement of Atellus over Greece - Legio XVI Macedonia will garrison the southern portion of the Proconsulate, stationed at Thebes until the re-establishment of the Corinthian colony by Athens. - Legio XIX Firma will garrison on the north end, stationed at Thessalonike, the Proconsulate's capital. - Legio VIII Silicia will be returning to Rome for the expected triumph of Proconsul Atellus. - The Thracians, Thessalians, and Roman prisoners will be put to work building a colonia (with a future one planned to the north).

sforza This did not require any authority so, with a silent nod of his head, the Proconsul allows the inquiry to be made. Glaucia thanked Atellus before he would move on to the legate of Legio XVI. Soon he would arrive to their camp
