It had been over twenty years since the last of the Gracchi brothers had committed suicide on the Aventine hill under the pressure of their many rivals. Since then many of their reforms had been repealed by the senate. However, many of the Roman people still held the Gracchi brothers dear in their hearts. The Gracchi brothers were the champions of the people after all.
Still, there was one sibling of the Gracchi brothers that yet lived. Sempronia, sister of Tiberius and Gaius. Though old now she still holds the memory and faces of the brothers alive. As Saturninus was known to be sympathetic to the Gracchi movement he decided to visit her, before she would eventually succumb of old age. If she would give her blessing to Saturninus then this would surely boost popularity of Saturninus with the Roman people even more.
