The Reach has suffered several years of open warfare. Tarly, Redwyne and Storm have been engaged in tit-for-tat skirmishes, raids, and small pitched engagements, setting the southern Reach aflame. Elsewhere, the warlords exploit the divisions, and have begun raiding with impunity. From Ashford and Cider Hall, robber barons direct bands of vagrants to harass travellers and smallfolk, while armies of disgruntled peasants gather under the banners of Jon O' the Mander.
A summit at Oldtown has been convened to restore some semblance of stability, but all involved doubt its chances of success. War will return to the Reach soon, and the seriously discontented peasants will not suffer for it much longer. Manderwynd's ranks will grow by the day so long as war continues, and pressure will mount on the High Septon to step in and end the conflict before the lords of the Reach escalate the conflict to something truly devastating.
