Nuno II Mendes Comes de Portucale
Born: 1038 AD Titles: Count of Portugal Status: Married to Goncina (b. 1040) Children: Loba Nunes (b. 1056), Gómez Nunes (b. 1058), Fernando Nunes (b. 1059) Traits (10 points):Resilience +4 (+1 from personality) Charisma +1 Intelligence +2 Authority +3 (+3 from personality) Personality: Warrior (+1 Resilience, +1 Authority) Deadly sin: Pride (+1 Authority, -3 to all interactions) Bloodline: Comital Blood (+1 Authority) The Second County of Portugal was founded in 868 AD when Vímara Peres, a member of the Asturian royal court, was sent to reconquer the coastal region of southern Galicia from the Moors, including the city of Portus Cale. He was named Count of Portugal by King Alfonso III and set about consolidating Christian rule over the region. He was succeeded by his son Lucídio who governed the county of 50 years, but upon his death his title and lands would go to his son, but to the sister of his wife, Mumadona Dias, the richest and most powerful woman of the Iberian Northwest. She would erect the Castle of Guimarães, which from then on would serve as the court of the count of Portugal. It would take two generations before county returned to the line of Vímara, with the joining of these two bloodlines. As a border region, Portugal faces constant conflict with the Moors of the caliphate, which has bred strong warriors for the Reconquista. Yet its rulers have often aspired to greater ambitions beyond the kingdoms of Asturias, Galicia and Leon. There were often power struggles with the other counts of Iberia, and resistance to the power of the royal court. Allegiances often switched between Asturias, Galicia and Leon. Two counts even claimed the title of "Grand Duke of Portugal" to assert their prerogatives. Nuno Mendes is a man molded by the history of his family and his county. A warrior ready to take the battle to the Moors, he nonetheless strives for more control over his own territory, so far away from the kingdoms of northern Spain. The death of King Ferdinand, the so-called "Emperor of Spain", presents itself as an opportunity as his lands are divided between his sons. Perhaps Nuno Mendes can finally break free from his chains and create his own southern realm?

Monk of Celanova, Compostela deacon, Bishop of Leon Pelayo Tedóniz Stats:Resilience - 1 (base 0, bloodline 1) Charisma - 7 (base 5, archetype 1, sin 1) Intelligence - 5 (base 4, archetype 1) Authority - 1 (base 1) Archetype: Diplomat (+1 Charisma, +1 Intelligence) Deadly Sin: Gluttony (+1 Charisma, -2 age survival rolls) Bloodline: Noble Blood (+1 Resilience) Elected successor to San Alivto, who died upon his divinely guided quest to recover the body of blessed Saint Justa, Pelayo comes from a far humbler lineage than his predecessor. This base ascender pales also in stature to holied Alvito, for where the late bishop strode tall as to gaze further upon his congregation, Pelayo seems more suited to having his gaze turned ever upwards to meet the eyes of his flock. And yet he is a well versed man, and ever capable in representing the interests of the faith over the many years he has dedicated to his profession. Bishop Alvito may have had the confidance of god, but Pelayo has honed his oratory talents to such a degree that he has yet to find good cause to call upon intervention when mortal hands could be moved by the strength of his words alone. Pelayo's family estates, nestled between those of far larger and more ambitious houses, are easily overlooked by ambitious eyes. So modest are they, that a third son like Pelayo had no chance at any real inheritance. But they were good christians, and inspired in a young man of Galicia the fires of divine wonderlust. This burning ambition to understand god has led a humble man to a humbled church. Though Leon sits as the heart of a kingdom, its foundations lay blackened by the ravages of war. But Pelayo will not permit his church to remain base. Not anymore. Gonzalo Nunez Born A.D. 1033 Titles: Comes de Castilla Status: Married Children: legitimate by his wife, Goto Alvarez. Resilience: 4 Charisma: 2 (+1 from bloodline) Intelligence: 0 Authority: 8 (+1 Personality, +1 deadly sin, +1 from bloodline) Personality: Warrior (+1 Resilience, +1 Authority) Deadly Sin: Pride (+1 Authority, -3 to interactions) Bloodline: Royal Blood (+1 Authority, +1 Charisma) Son of García Sánchez III and grandson of Sancho 'the Great,' Sancho is among the many of the Jimenez that make up the various Iberian Kingdoms from the coast of the Atlantic to the roots of the Pyrenees. He rules over the ancestral lands of his family, first founded by García Jiménez, and his son, Sancho I. His father's actions saw the end of Cantabrians that had ruled over Leon for generations, but would come into a vicious struggle with his brother, Ferdinand of Leon, that would end his life in 1054. At the age of fourteen, Sancho was raised up by the army, and with his Ferdinand's approval, his uncle, as the successor of his late father and crowned King of Pamplona as Sancho Garcés IV. Soon after Sancho's accession, many lords in the west of the kingdom went over to the Leonese. Only Íñigo López, lord of Biscay, and Sancho Fortúnez, lord of Pancorbo, remained loyal. On 29 December 1062, Sancho and Ferdinand signed a treaty defining their shared border. Ferdinand was recognised as king of all Castile and Sancho's authority was recognised in the Rioja, Álava, Biscay, and implicitly Guipúzcoa. As King of Navarre, he is held suzerainty over another uncle's realm, Aragon. As king, Sancho received support from this other uncle, King Ramiro I of Aragon. Out of gratitude for "his friendship, his fidelity, his help and his council", Sancho gave Ramiro possession of Lerda, Undués and the castle of Sangüesa. With the death of Ferdinand, in 1065, the great realm he had ruled was divided among three sons. Castile, Leon, and Galicia were severed and became realms of little in terms of brotherly love. Navarre still must worry of its neighbor, Castile, ruled over by Sancho the Strong as well as the various Muslim realms to the South. Among other things, there are good and bad terms with his various brothers and half-siblings who rule various castles as lords of Navarre. It is hard to determine who can truly be trusted. Yet, if Sancho can weather the coming storm, he knows that Navarre will become a fortress from which the Jimenez may rule Iberia as they have done before.

ADEFONSVS REX LEGIONENSISBorn A.D. 1040. Status: Unmarried. Children: None. Titles: King of León. Traits:Resilience: +3 (+1) Resilience. Charisma: +2 (-1, +1) Charisma. Intelligence: +5 (+2) Intelligence. Authority: +4 (+1) Authority. Personality: Pragmatist, +1 Resilience, +1 Intelligence. Deadly sin: Envy, +1 Intelligence, -1 Charisma. Bloodline: Royal Blood, +1 Authority, +1 Charisma. BIOGRAPHY: Fernando I slayed his own wife’s brother in battle, seized his kingdom and ruled over all Iberia. He was a fair and noble monarch, pious and just. He had three sons by his royal wife: Sancho, Alfonso and García; and two daughters, Elvira and Urraca. All his children were properly educated by clergymen: Alfonso’s teacher was Raimundo, a priest who taught him letters and numbers, to better rule his lands when his father died. He was also sent to the lands of Ansur Díaz, a lord of the realm, to learn how to be a true knight: to ride and wield sword, lance and axe and wage war against his enemies. There he befriended Pedro Ansúrez, the nobleman’s son and heir, who was to be the prince’s dearest and most trusted companion. But, Alfonso is closest to his sister, Urraca, whom he loves very fondly, being quite devoted to each other. In 1063 the king gathered the realm’s noblemen and prelates both and summoned them to León, profiting from the eventful consecration of the royal church of Saint Isidorus in the capital. Before the assembled Curia Regis, Fernando I announced that his kingdom was to be portioned between his children, like his father Sancho III once did. His eldest, Sancho, was only to get Castilla, erected a kingdom, while the second, Alfonso, his dearest, would be granted León, and the third, Galicia, a realm patched from the westernmost lands of the old kingdom of Asturias. The daughters got Toro and Zamora, for them to rule as they wished, but forbidden to marry or beget sons to inherit their lands. Thus, no man would do as he did and steal the kingdoms through them. Few years later, in 1066, the old king died and his inheritance was settled among his children. Alfonso became the sixth of his name to rule León, inheriting the core of the oldest kingdom in Hispania, with the rich royal seat and capital, the old city of Oviedo, the palatine city of his grandfather, Palencia, and many more. However, he was not to rest idle, he knew Sancho was not content with his share, brash and envious of his brother’s lot, and neither would Alfonso allow García to have a part of his realm and the control of the Apostle’s holy tomb. All of them looked at each other wearily, for they know that soon swords would leave their scabbards and brother would be upon brother like it was the end of the world. But as long as their mother Sancha –daughter, sister, wife and mother to kings- lived, they would not dare crossing any boundaries.

GARCIA REX GALLICIAE Born in 1043 Childless and unwed Named as King of Galicia as of 1066 AD
Stats: Resilience: 4 (+1) Intelligence: 1 Charisma: 5 (+2) Authority: 4 (+1)
Personality: Idealist: +1 resilience, +1 charisma.
Sin: Lust: +2 to conception rolls, -5 to clerical interactions.
Bloodline: Royal Blood: +1 authority, +1 charisma.
Bio: Youngest of Ferdinand's children, Garcia was raised in the shadow of the squabbles of his two older brothers. He was the youngest, smallest, and weakest, and was thus a target for torment in his youth. To tease Garcia was one of those rare activities the quarrelsome brothers could do together, and they often succeeded in inflicting some form of humiliation when their mother was not around to put an end to it. As Ferdinand loved Alfonso more than his other children, so too did Sancha hold special affection for Garcia, her last child and youngest son. Though not the warrior that Sancho has become nor as cunning as Alfonso, Garcia nonetheless strives to become something more than simply his father's son, to escape the long and looming shadow of his kindred. Galicia was his consolation for his father's death, and much to the chagrin of his brothers placed him on an equal footing. No more was he their baby brother but now a king in his own right, lord of a hardy realm carved out of the western reaches of Leon. It is a kingdom of hills and mountains, filled with unruly vassals and threats to royal authority. It is time for Ferdinand's youngest son to end his days of debauchery and prove himself the equal of both his brothers and his forebears. And now that Queen Sancha has passed and all hope of peace is gone, who is to say that Garcia may not surpass his brothers and unite their father's realms?

SANCTIUS REX CASTELLAE SANCHO EL FUERTE (THE STRONG) Born A.D. 1036 Titles: King of Castile Status: Married to Queen Alberta Children: N/A Traits:Resilience: 4 Charisma: 2 (-1 from deadly sin and +1 from bloodline) Intelligence: 4 (+2 from deadly sin and personality) Authority: 4 (+2 from bloodline and personality) Personality: Planner (+1 intelligence, +1 authority) Deadly Sin: Envy (+1 intelligence, -1 charisma) Bloodline: Royal Blood (+1 authority, +1 charisma) Eldest son of Ferdinand 'the Great' and Sancha of Leon, Sancho was to be the inheritor of all of Spain, until the birth of his younger brothers. As a result, he was slated to rule Castile upon the death of his father. A strong character, both in physical appearance and personality, there was something that dwelt within his heart upon the death of his father, Envy. A deep envious emotion swelled within him as Castile, Leon, and Galicia were partitioned and split from one another. The great realm, once ruled by his father, was now divided. Yet his envy did not just extend to his brother's realms, but also towards his cousins in the East, namely to Navarre. Even during the reign of Ferdinand, there was a violent struggle involving the borders between what is now Castile and Navarre. Sancho inherited this desire for Alta Rioja and other border territories to his East. He hoped to achieve what his father could not and reclaim what was viewed as rightfully belonging to Castile. This strong envy could be a catalyst for something even more devastating.

Diego Fernández de Oviedo COMES DE ASTURIASCoat of Arms for the Comes of Asturias Born A.D. 1020 Titles: Count in Asturias Status: Married to Cristina Gundemáriz Children: by his first wife, Elvira Ovéquiz (d. cir. 1045)- Onneca Mayor Díaz, married (b. 1044) - Aurovita Díaz, married (b. 1045) by his second wife, Cristina Gundemáriz- Rodrigo Diaz, unmarried (b. 1048) - Jimena Diaz, unmarried (b. 1051) - Fernando Diaz, unmarried (b. 1053) Traits:Resilience: 5 (+2 from personality and deadly son) Charisma: 2 Intelligence: 1 (-1 from deadly son) Authority: 5 (+2 from personality and bloodline) Personality: Warrior (+1 resilience, +1 authority) Deadly Sin: Wroth (+1 resilience, -1 intelligence) Bloodline: Comital Blood (+1 authority) Diego Fernández, also known as Diego Fernández de Oviedo, is a member of one the most noble lineages of the Kingdom of Leon. He is the son of Fernando Flaínez and Elvira Peláez, daughter of count Pelayo Rodríguez and a second cousin of the reigning king, Alfonso VI, who both share the same great-grandfather, Count Fernando Bermúdez de Cea. At an early age, he distinguished himself as a noble and count, quickly making him a notable figure among the Leonese nobility. Throughout his lifetime, serving under two Kings, Ferdinand, and his son, Alfonso, Diego participated in a number of campaigns, namely under the former. The wars that brought Ferdinand to the title of 'Imperator of Hispania' were notably against the Moorish foe to the south. Although he did not participate in the battles with Zaragoza in 1060, Diego was among the commanders in the wars against Toledo, the reconquest of Portugal, and the great raids in Badajoz and Seville. When Ferdinand died in 1065, Count Diego became a vocal support of his royal cousin, Alfonso, and sought to serve the successor as well as he did the predecessor. Right now, the borders are quiet and the lands are still. Yet, like between Ferdinand and Garcia of Pamplona, there seems to be little brotherly love between the three realms of Galicia, Leon, and Castile. Sooner or later, war will break out and Diego will see to it that he is ready to command once more.

PEDRO ANSUREZ Señor de Liébana, Saldaña and Carrión Born in 1041 Unmarried Childless Stats:
Resilience: 4 (+1) Intelligence: 4 (+1) Charisma: 2 Authority: 4 (+2) Personality: Pragmatist: +1 resilience, +1 intelligence Sin: Pride: +1 authority, -3 to all interactions. Bloodline: Comital: +1 authority. Pedro is a proud scion of the Banu Gómez clan, son of Lord Ansur Diaz and nephew of Count Gómez Díaz de Saldaña, he traces his descent back to the counts of Leon and Castilla in the previous centuries. In his youth, he was raised alongside King Fernando's favourite son Alfonso, who was taken in by Lord Ansur as a ward to be taught the knightly arts. Their similar interests and kindred temperaments led to them becoming inseparable in their adolescence, and they both indulged in friendly competition as they mastered the sword and lance. The pair became renowned for causing havoc and mischief in the Tierra de Campos, their schemes usually directed towards the hapless peasants. Though Pedro was Alfonso's junior in both age and status even as they ascended to adulthood, he grew to become a powerful man in his own right. Strong of body and mind, he would prove a loyal and capable ally to the Infante upon his return to King Fernando's court, taking up a post in the royal household. Soon after, Pedro's father passed on and left to him his patrimony of Liébana, Saldaña and Carrión, which made him at a stroke one of the most powerful men in the kingdom. Similarly did Alfonso's own father die, with King Fernando dividing his kingdom into three for his sons and daughters. Now Pedro serves as King Alfonso VI's majordomo, chief among his supporters in León and the most trusted of his councillors. He is privy and party to all of the royal schemes and secrets as the three brothers prepare to make war on one another for their imperial legacy.
