House Rowan of Goldengrove is one of the most prominent and old families from the Reach, its dominions extending all along its northern borders. Like several other major Reach houses, the Rowans can trace their descent from the legendary Garth Greenhand, through his daughter Rowan Gold-Tree. Lady Alys Rowan is the current head of house Goldengrove, her house consists of mostly woman, her three younger sisters and an infant nephew, Lord Osgrey, by her younger sister, the dowager lady Osgrey, who serves as his regent at Standfast. Lady Alys is the eldest daughter of late Lord Mathis Rowan, who pledged his alliance to Aegon Targaryen, thus defying his liege Lord Tyrell, who's daughter Queen Margaery was once wed to King Tommen. For this, he was executed by order of King Stannis. Her mother is Lady Bethany Redwyne, who was once promised to ser Brynden Tully, before marrying her father. Her house belongs to the highest nobility in the Reach, her patnernal aunt being married to Lord Hightower and through her mothers she is related to the houses Redwyne, Fossoway and Tyrell.

Uneasy sat the throne she found herself upon. With her fingertips she followed the wood grains. Staring into the fire of her hearth. Her father was dead. His enemy sat upon the Iron Throne in Kings Landing. Stannis Baratheon, who according to her father, had no claim to that throne. They should have been content with Storm's End. Lady Alys had little idea what her standing would be in the world now. If she could, she would rather lock herself up, here, safe behind the walls of Goldengrove. But her time in the shadow was over. The Father had judged that is was her time to rule Goldengrove. Lady Alys could not deny that she had always longed for her days in the sun. However, now that those days were upon her, she wished for the old day to return. The realm was in a chaotic state and she felt vulnerable and alone. She had called for the map of Westeros and tried to recall the messages her Maester had given her about the current status of the great houses and their allegiances. She had little doubt that the current King Stannis had little love for her and her house. She broke her vision from the fire and fixed it again to the map on her lap. she lifted her finger on Highgarden and softly encircled it. She had not heard from them. She had not send an message either. She couldn't believe they were happy with King Stannis, but her father had broken word to Tyrell to support Aegon, so she supposed they were not exactly allies either. Her finger followed the river Mander down south, there Lady Alys hoped to have more allies. Her uncles, Lord Hightower, Lord Redwyne and.. she tapped with her finger on Horn Hill. Young Lord Tarly and his Mooton wife, she figured, must found themselves in the exact same situation as she was. Then she figured, they were not alone in that matter. Her eye fell on the West, house Marbrand was among the allies of her father. She gazed further down south again. Dorne, house Martell had wed the dragon. Arianne would have been their Queen had her husband been more succesful in holding the Iron Throne. She stood up from her throne, she was still unsure where her loyalties lay at this moment. Aegon was dead. Father was dead. It made little sense to play upon old sentiments as the cause was dead. It was her time in the sun now. So she must find her own way into this new world. First she had to make some allies again. Through a window she could see her younger sisters in the garden. We all must should marry as soon as possible, she concluded. The big question remained.. but to whom?
