Nightsong Nightsong is the seat of House Caron in the southwestern stormlands. The formidable castle is located in the Dornish Marches, north of the Prince's Pass and the Red Mountains. Nightsong is known for its Singing Towers. Maester Yandel states the Carons have held Nightsong for many centuries and the castle guarded the western border of the domain of the Storm Kings of House Durrandon, but also that the Kingdom of the Reach once included western marches from Horn Hill to Nightsong. Records indicate the castle has been besieged at least thirty-seven times in the last millenium. After meeting with Lord Dondarrion, at Blackhaven, Rolland Caron arrives at the walls of his ancestral home. The last time that he had seen these walls was when Stannis called forth the Stormlands and him, along with his brother, Bryce, answered it and raised their banners. Bryce became the unfortunate death at the battle before King's Landing. Foote was the one who killed him and gained his lands as a result, while Rolland fought for Stannis and was left in a cell for doing so.
Marching with a thousand spears, bow, and horse, Lord Caron approached the walls and stood before them. A knight rode forth. He proclaims a message to the sentries.
By His Grace, King Stannis Baratheon, House Foote is hereby deprived of their lands and Nightsong Castle for aiding the traitorous Cersei and her inbred spawn. His Grace hereby grants these lands and title to the late Lord Bryce's half-brother, Rolland, who has been legitimized as Lord Caron! Heed the King's judgment and you shall be spared! Defy His Will and face death!
The men upon the walls seemed uncertain, but Lord Foote had another response. The one-eyed Westerlander demanded combat, a one-on-one duel, with Lord Caron. Rolland accepted the challenge and dismounted. Their knights made a circle and planted their flags at the four corners of the arena of battle. With swords drawn, the two charged and fought.
The duel was fierce. Even with one-eye, Philip Foote was a skilled knight. Rolland was skilled too. It was Caron who started off strong before Foote countered harder! A cut dug into Rolland's left arm, but it wasn't anything too serious. Foote had received a cut at his cheek earlier. The knights cheered and jeered to their lords as the two fought for five bouts. In the end, though, Foote was cut at the leg and stabbed through the shoulder, belonging to his sword arm. Knelt before the victor, Lord Caron glares at the defeated.
Leave these lands and never return! Your right to them is forfeited and your house no longer belongs here. Crawl back to the Westerlands and fester there instead!
Rolland barks as two of Foote's knights carried him away. Within the hour, Foote and his retinue departed West, with Philip being carried in a litter with his wounds wrapped up.
By nightfall, the banner of House Foote fell and House Caron rose to replace it.
