Amid the chaos of the short civil war in the Riverlands, Lord Tully had finally returned to bring some semblance of order back to the region. Now an army led by Walder Darry, Tytos Blackwood and Brynden Tully advanced on the Twins to claim it in the name of Stannis Baratheon. The rivermen had not forgotten the treachery of the Freys at the Red Wedding and would not easily forgive the treacherous house for their transgressions. Yet the Twins was a formidable forces situated on both sides of the river. The Freys send out a group to parley, led by Lame Lothar. They request to meet under a banner of peace to the south of the Twins. Walder Frey rides forth with his kinsmen by marriage, the Western knights that had chosen to acompany him on his way to the Trident.

Lord Blackwood rides with Red Walder and a posse of knights serving Raventree Hall.
"Hail Ser Lothar, kin of my kin. We come in the name of King Stannis and the true Lord Paramount of the Trident, Edmure Tully. With Cersei Lannister and her cursed spawn gone from the Iron Throne, House Bolton destroyed and Lord Baelish serving his Grace, House Frey has few friends left to stand on its own. Is the Twins ready to surrender to the rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms, who marches here with a mighty host just as we speak?"

“House Frey takes no part in these wars. Our fealty lies with none and we defend our own lands. Lord Walder wishes that you retire in peace before blood is shed.”
Warned Lame Lothar Frey, with a scowl.
“We do not trust any party sent by Tully, who massacres Freys by the dozen and calls it justice. We will not treat.”

Lord Tytos gave Lame Lothar a cold stare. To think he shared blood with such a foul creature as a spawn of Walder Frey. He scoffed and turned his horse around.
"Lowborn, traitorous scum! You're lucky I've more respect for the ancient laws than your entire house put together. When I return with King Stannis and Lord Edmure, I'll have justice for Lucas!"
Blackwood rode away in anger, leaving Red Walder on his own with his kin.

Warily, the Freys open their gates to their kinsmen, eager to bury the bodies of the fallen beneath their walls. They allow Red Walder and a few guards to enter the court, where the increasingly aged and wearied Lord Walder Frey holds his court as Lord of the Crossing.

They allow Red Walder and a few guards to enter the court, where the increasingly aged and wearied Lord Walder Frey holds his court as Lord of the Crossing. "Grandfather"Said Red Walder, with a curt bow. He was wearing mail and an emblazoned surcoat, his mess of a hair red like copper. His weasel face had much of the Old Lord on it, albeit watered down by a hint of Genna's rotund bone structure. "I brought my father and brother to the Twins, sadly they were hanged by bandits"He added, sorrowful, eyes lowered.

“You came with an army at your back, then? It is dangerous to be a Frey in these times, heh.”
Replied Old Walder, who seemingly felt secure and safe within the walls of the crossing.
“We shall have them buried, or sent down the river, however it’s done these days. Mayhaps you could treat with Lord Blackwood for us.”

"Too dangerous grandfather"
Said Walder, looking to a side.
"He won't negotiate, my Lord. He and the other riverlords want to see us all hanging"
He looked back at Lord Frey with weary eyes.
"Grandfather, Stannis would put us all on trial, Edmure would too. They have greater armies than the Twins would ever have. Hosteen and Aenys were routed and killed and with it went most our strenght"

“What do they want from us, eh? To see me hang, I suspect, and all the rest here.”
Replied old Walder, gripping his throne with palsied hands.
“You have men with you. Put them to good use, and drive Lord Blackwood away, if he will not offer terms that I consider to be fair, heh.”

"I'm badly outnumbered, I'm afraid"
Said Red Walder.
"However, I counsel sending word to the Dragon, he will be more amenable to you, grandfather"
He added.
"Promise him your swords and men, better than losing castle and all our shit to these twats"

“The dragon will not risk his neck for us. At least not while we are weak.”
Old Walder knew that the Freys could play for time, at least. The Twins were strong and easily defensible, and well provisioned besides.
“Let Lord Blackwood come. He will find the walls of my castle strong and well-manned.”
