"It's the least I could do. I didn't expect you to still linger there. Awful"He said. The kid couldn't help himself but stare at the knight until his mother told him not to. "Oh well, you see, there's no actual keep and I've been lord of there for a time now. The Rainwood has never been... a lordship before. So, nothing else beyond my small tower in the Stormlands. I'm afraid those lords are sworn to the smallest castle in Westeros"Davos had had a stone and wood tower, a fortified manse surrounded by a palisade, for some years now, since Stannis handed it down to him. A humble keep with a couple villages sworn to it. Not much. And now it was seat of a high lord, ruling over a score of bannermen. Davos figured out he'd have to build a new castle, but he prefered to use his coin for something else. And yet, they are sworn to the most loyal of Stannis.Rolland smiles. A small keep for a man like Seaworth? That seemed hardly worthy. However, Davos was a man who rose from nothing save his onions and his ship. He was modest, a trait that made him ideal as Lord Hand. I did come to make a request, Lord Davos.Lord Caron states. When I leave for Nightsong, I will be in need of knights and squires. Your son, Devan, is a young knight I hear. Perhaps he could join me? To earn some more experience. If not, I could offer to train your son, Stannis. Your sons, like others, are the future of the Stormlands after all.Rolland requests, wanting to repay Davos for freeing him from Dragonstone.

"Seven save me from this paperwork"Said Davos, stamping his seal on a parchment. It was enjoyable to put your seal on such documents. Reading them was fairly more difficult: some scribes' handwritting was certainly notoriously hard to read. With him there was a teenager, with brown eyes and hair and who looked bored. "Dad, you promised we'd go hunting. I'd go ride every day in the keep, but you keep me grounded. I need to go out" "I told you it's unwise to go out into the Kingswood, this is not where you come from" "But...""Hush now, Stan, ser Massey arrived"Seaworth turns to the king's man. "What brings you here?" "King's orders, Lord Seaworth." Justin greeted cordially, nodding and smiling at both Davos and his son. If he thought this business was urgent, he sure didn't sound like it, though perhaps that was just how the laid-back knight of spirals usually conducted himself. "He's charged me with rebuilding the depleted ranks of the Gold Cloaks and restoring order to the city streets. I was hoping that, as a native of King's Landing yourself, you'd know where to recruit the best and most reliable this city has to offer, and what incentives could motivate them other than gold."[/quote] Of which the crown had precious little, to his understanding. "And who might you be, by the way?" He asked of the young one who seemed to be Seaworth's son, his tone still friendly and relaxed. He guessed that was the case, anyway - why would the Lord Hand have random children hang around in his office otherwise? - but did not know the lad's name. He didn't seem to be Devan, who Massey knew had been afforded the honor of knighthood and assigned to be Princess Shireen's bodyguard.

"I'm afraid what Devan does is up to him. I'm his father, but he's a knight and in the cusp of manhood"Said Davos. "Furthermore, he's Lady Shireen's sworn sword and she or he might not be willing to part her company"He added. "My Stan is an unruly child. Maybe that would be a good arrangement. But I have to talk it out with the king, who offered himself to squire my sons, I don't want to slight him on this matter"

It takes a lot for someone to thrive in that cesspool. Trust me, I hopped on the first boat that would take a young lad. That's how I left the city and learned my trade"He said. "However, you should pick them young, when they're still not broken. Teenagers. They've seen their fair share but aren't still on the payroll of gang lords and crime rings, which are quite a few in there. If you offer them the promise of food and a roof over their heads, plus a salary to buy wine and whores with, they shall take it. They'll be green as grass for a few years, but in little time you'll have a few hundreds new guards"He added. "The advantage is that being born where they live they know the city like their own hands. And all its dirty turns and tell-me-nots. Ah, then I will not pursue that topic. I would not His Grace to feel slighted.Rolland replies. He may have to see if there were any others who would be willing to join him. There were Serjeants from the Golden Company still wandering about after all. Then I will find another way to repay you, Lord Davos. Once I have Nightsong, I have been told to return to King's Landing.Lord Caron rises from his seat. When I return, let us share a bottle of wine.Rolland says with a bow and a good day to Davos, his wife, and son.

Yes, that made sense - Flea Bottomers who were neither boys nor men, honed and hardened enough to be able to survive in the streets, but not so embittered and tainted by lives of crime that hiring them would be like hiring ravenous wolves to guard the sheep. They'd make for solid guardians of the peace. "You have the right of it, Lord Davos. I'll start recruiting from Flea Bottom right away.""Oh, is that right?" Justin added, much less seriously, as he turned to face Stannis Seaworth properly. "Well, that's perfectly normal for any red-blooded lad, as I can attest to myself. Though our King couldn't be more different than his brother. If you were to squire for him like your brother did, young Stan, you can rest assured that you won't turn out like me." He grinned. Robert was not only perfectly fine with young Massey going drinking and wenching, but even insisted that the latter should keep him informed so he could join in. Stannis was unlikely to tolerate such indiscipline in his squires, much less partake in it himself.

"You don't need to pay me anything. I did what I must, nothing else"Said Davos. "It was my duty to retake what has been my king's seat for many years now"He smiled. "I would take a bottle of wine or a piece for my wife to make a new gown, Lord Caron"Added the smuggler, amused. "Hear, hear"Said Marya. "My wife and I were wondering if you were looking for a lass to marry" "Truly, the mean at Flea Bottom are dying to get out of that hellhole. "My wife and I were wondering if you were looking for a lass to marry" I will see about arranging both, Lord Hand.Rolland chuckles and smiles at the two. Lord Davos certainly had a happy marriage. At the mention of marriage, Lord Caron nods his head slightly. Walking from the Holdfast to here, it was something that crossed my mind.He was no longer a bastard, but the heir to the late Bryce and Byren, and the Lord of Nightsong. Rolland had new roles now, besides serving his King, and that was managing his lands and fathering heirs. If the Lord Hand has a recommendation, that is better than any other suggestion save the King himself.Caron had thought of possible Stormlords with sisters, daughters, and nieces available for marriage. But didn't have much time to think about it.

"I know it's not much help, but I'm afraid I'm not privy to the Stormlords and their genealogies, that's maester's work. However, you may find something in your mountains. Didn't the Thunder Lord Dondarrion have a sister? Or wasn't he betrothed? He's gone. Probably killed by the Mountain. Maybe you could look into it"

I believe my father was seeking a bride, in the Dornishes Marches, for the late Bryce Caron. I think he may have been considering Beric's sister.War and the death of lords ensured that betrothal negotiations were dropped. Bryce had died, unmarried, at Blackwater. I thank you, Lord Hand. I will look into it while I am in the Stormlands.Caron then considers something as he looks at a banner of House Baratheon. Although, I hear that they may be supporting Tommen Waters.

"Very good, Lord Davos. You won't regret your choice." Justin's grin did not leave his face, and his eyes had lit up at the prospect of getting a new squire of his own. The son of the King's faithful and ever-reliable right hand, no less - despite the Seaworths' humble origins, their patriarch's reputation and the King's favor quickly added luster to their name. "I'll be waiting. Until then however, I've got to continue reforming and rebuilding the City Watch from the ground up. Farewell for now, Lord Seaworth. Stan." He nodded at both before turning to leave.

After the day’s Small Council session, the Red Priestess made her way into the Hand’s Tower, seeking the ear of Lord Davos. "Lady Melisandre"Saluted Davos with a slight frown. He was not in the best terms with the woman of Asshai, whose ways he didn't trust. Least so after delivering a murderous shadow under Storm's End. "I didn't expect your visit"
