"Do not give me lessons, I lost a brother to the Freys. I do not have to be taught what loss is, ser"
Jon said.
"You have seen the man, he has been tortured and broken. He paid for his crimes. And to execute him for my brothers' death is pointless now, both are alive, or at least Bran left Winterfell unharmed"
He looks at Wyman.
"An ambassador is an ambassador, and the Valesmen are no Freys, they respect the guest's right and have honor. Lady Mormont, per chance you would know my sister by eye?"

“Baelish is a friend to the Lannisters, you may overestimate his honor, the Freys are not the only snakes in the south.” Wyman replied simply. “But, if we are to send an envoy let it be someone with little value as a hostage, we cannot hand the Vale Northern lords and ladies.”
Wylis snorted, reminiscence of a Walrus’s grunt, from how it echoed in his cavernous stomach. “His crimes go beyond the children, far beyond them. Treason against Robb for a start, and more besides.” He shook his head. “I will not measure loss, Warden Snow. I too lost a brother at the Red Wedding, half those assembled in this room did.”

Snow silenced Wylis with a hand.
"I will not hear more about it. Is up to the king to decide, what shall be done, king Stannis? If he's to die, let him die like a man"
He looked at the king.
"Else, let him wear the black"
Snow then adds:
"An envoy has to be respectable and glib of tongue, we cannot just send a steward and have the Valesmen respect us"

"Snow speaks true. Theon is a turncloak and a traitor, and will earn his judgement. But the blood of the Stark boys is not on his hands."
Stannis judged that killing the Turncloak might be a mercy to him.
"I will judge his fate before we leave. I have heard enough of the matter. If he is to die, I will do the damned deed myself."
The King tapped a finger on the Riverlands.
"The Twins will fall, and the Freys with them. Attacking them from the south rather than the north will leave them no time to muster their lickspittles to save them."
The prospect of entering the Riverlands through the Bay of Crabs was beginning to hold greater appeal with the King, it seemed.
"As for lady Stark, do as you will. For all we know she could be a whore pulled from one of Littlefinger's brothels."

“If we are to take the Twins we will need men on both sides.” Wylis said, speaking from his own experience there. “Dividing the force may prove problematic, but there is no other way.. Unless we can find a way to sneak inside.”
“If you wish to bring the men south by sea my fleet stands available, and I do not believe the Vale or Riverlands could muster a defense against such a move.” Wyman commented, choosing to ignore the fate of the turncloak for the time being.

"Neither Lord Mooton nor Ser Cox has answered my letters. There is no way to know if they are loyal to us, or to the Freys, Lannisters or Baelish. Landing on the Bay of Crabs may not be as simple as you propose."

"Nothing is as simple as proposed. I attacked King's Landing over a bridge of burning ships as the Lannisters rained hell on us from the walls. We can manage the bloody Bay of Crabs."
Retorted the King, his voice booming like an old warhorn.
"Mooton will bend the knee or be destroyed. I have a hundred landless knights with me, each more worthy of Maidenpool than Mooton could ever dream of being."

"If it's men to sneak into a fort you need, you can count on me and my men. We know how to traverse the waters silently if we have our longships, don't need more than two. The Frey bastards won't even know what hit 'em before they find our knives at their balls."
Asha looked down on the map over the Seven Kingdoms, scanning the Riverlands and the area around the Twins.
"The Twins sit on the Green Fork, right? And it's headwaters is... the Neck? We could attack from the north if the crannogmen guide us through their waters and down the river. I've got 90 men, half for each castle."

"You will need more than ninety men."
It was the best plan they had yet heard to see the Twins taken. The Ironborn were a backwards folk, but they knew how to fight.
"Ser Richard Morrigen will go with you, with two hundred swords."
It would be enough to keep Frey busy whilst the rest landed in the south. If he had more men he would have landed at Gulltown and tried to win the Vale from Baelish, but he had to make do with whatever motley force he could muster.

Tristifer Botley was present, albeit practically invisibly. The young Lord of Lordsport in exile had spent the entire war council so far either nursing his bandaged hand - the result of him grabbing a flailing Bolton serjeant's spear by the point at the edge of the icy lake some time ago - or nodding along with Asha and Stannis' orders, content to go where they willed and do what they deemed necessary to get them all a step closer to victory and the Ironborn home. He also stole the occasional appreciative glance at the similarly exiled Lady of Pyke, for he was of the opinion that her new shoulder-length hair suited her, but had enough social grace to recognize the obvious fact that this was not the time or the place to compliment her looks.

The Mormont forces would join the host, having called most of their levies from Bear Island. While Lyra and Jorelle would return north towards their island home in order to keep the castle safe from the still roaming threat of Ironborn, Alysane and Lady Maege would lead the Mormont forces, following the Stark banner and the one of the Burning Stag. So far Lady Maege would attend the military councils, if possible, but remain so far in the background unless directly called up.

Some time after Stannis first called a war council, Ser Justin Massey comes up to Winterfell from White Harbor, having finally returned after a year spent building a mercenary army in Essos. He does not push through the snows alone; with him are dozens of mercenary captains flying strange banners behind the blazing stag of Baratheon and the triple spiral of Massey, some seeming less foreign than others, certainly most commanding smaller companies than the most senior and prominent of their kind. Judging from the broader-than-usual smile on the Smiler's face, he's got some very good news to report.

Lester and Richard Morrigen were present, but for now kept their peace. The King seemed to have enough counsel.

Massey and his captains were brought through Winterfell's gates and into the Great Hall, where Stannis Baratheon waited with the entirety of his war council. The King and his bannermen were still poring over maps and battle plans, making the preparations for their march south.
"Ser Massey, you have returned. I pray for your sake that these men are not the only Sellswords you could find across the Narrow Sea."
The King wore a wry look, his lips curled into a half-smile.

Those captains who could speak the Common Tongue, mostly the Andals, visibly smirked at the King's joke, while Ser Justin knelt. "Were that the case, Your Grace, I'd have to throw myself into the Braavosi lagoon out of shame." Massey japed, once he had risen from his kneeling posture. "Nay, instead I have the honor of informing you that you now have twenty thousand sellswords at your disposal. And that's not all - I have also recruited fifty-five sellsails, whose contracts assuredly do not end at just escorting this army to the shores of your kingdom. These captains I've brought with me await your command, and in turn their soldiers and sailors presently await their orders at White Harbor."
"Although," Massey added almost as an afterthought, recalling his conversation with Ser Marlon Manderly, "You may also wish to write to the Iron Bank to establish a proper supply line between White Harbor and Braavos, sire. The Manderly commander informed me that there isn't enough food in White Harbor to feed Winterfell, the cityfolk there, and now all these sellswords for long."
