Mace gave a hearty laugh and raised his goblet."Whatever is built must be stronger than what came before. Words my father told me as a young lad, which I live by. Money is a trifle when it comes to do my duty to the realm."There was also a handy penny in being the true ruler behind the Iron Throne, but there was no need to brag about that."So tell me, good Ser, what brings you to my humble abode today?" Ser Lannister knew money won wars though. Tywin certainly knew that well. Money spent on something like this was money not spent to the war effort. I do have something for you to consider, Lord Tyrell.Devan takes a quick bite of the apple before proceeding. With the Queen Cersei dead, the Westerlands are without their Paramount. Tommen cannot be Lord Paramount and King and Myrcella is a Princess, still not of age. The Lord Commander Jaime is missing and Tyrion has been exiled. As it stands, there is no Lord of Casterly Rock, no Lord Paramount of the Westerlands, to rely upon in your efforts. The Warden bites into the apple again. I believe that it would be in your best interest to write a decree stating who is the successor to the title of Lord Paramount. To bide them to your cause.

"Yes, an important and delicate subject, to be sure... forgive me Ser, I am not so knowledgeable on your family tree. Queen Cersei, may she rest in peace, was the Lady of Casterly Rock, so by right Princess Myrcella is her heir. Otherwise, I guess... Ser Kevan was Lord Tywin's only brother, but Lancel is no good..."
Mace sighed heavily. How tiring it was to figure this out.
"Ser Daven, you know your family better than I, who are the lions worthy of inheriting the mantle of Lord of Casterly Rock?"

Devan raises four fingers to Lord Tyrell.
There are four possible males to choose from. Damion, his son, Lucion, Kevan's second son, Martyn, and myself as a son of Stafford.
The Lannister continues to advise from there.
Damion is a very old man, but has been steward for some time. Martyn Lannister is but a boy still and is destined to be Lord of Darry. Lucion and I are good candidates, although, to be honest, the ones who were remarkable before are very very few. We have plenty of ladies, who I have begun to marry off in order to secure them their futures.
Devan did consider another alternative.
There are the Lannisters of Lannisport... but they too are rather unremarkable.
He makes his conclusion.
And I have been Warden of the West in the name of Cersei Lannister, fought in the Riverlands for the Iron Throne as a result.
Choose wisely thought Devan.
So I believe your choices are between myself or Lucion.

Mace pondered on Daven's words. There were many benefits with changing the current heir to Casterly Rock, though downsides as well. Myrcella was useful while still a child. Lots of choices, what to do... Tyrell rose and went over to the half-finished window, looking out over Blackwater Bay.
"Princess Myrcella is by rights the heir to Casterly Rock, and the advice of the Small Council would be needed on such an important subject. It would be foolish to rush into such a decision and upend centuries of precedent inheritance laws and oaths."
He turned once again to Dave Lannister. There was a sparkle in his eye, and a sly grin hiding under his beard.
"However... should King Tommen be returned safely to King's Landing, his kidnappers and the murderers of the Queen Mother brought to justice, I'm sure his Grace could show favor to the man who saved him from evil men. Do we have an understanding, Ser Daven?"

It seemed that Lord Tyrell was, once more, not using his brain correctly in this matter. He had a choice and chose the wrong one.
Then I shall continue to serve as Warden of the West, given the regency required for Myrcella as Lady Paramount?
Devan inquires, wondering if that would at least still be his.
After all, the Lady Paramount is to be sent to Sunspear for her protection and that would keep her away from the Westerlands for some time.

"Yes, you may continue serving the realm as Warden of the West until the matters concerning the heir of Casterly Rock has been settled. Not to worry concerning Princess Myrcella though, she will enjoy her time at Highgarden and should be able to visit her cousins in the Westerlands from time to time. In fact, perhaps some ladies-in-waiting could be picked from House Lannister and sent to serve her Grace? I am sure there are plenty of young ladies who would love to serve their royal cousin."
Mace felt all the pieces falling in place. After the nasty business not too long ago, now it all started to make sense. He felt like a gardener, carefully tending to his rose garden and ridding it of all the weeds.
"But until King Tommen has been rescued, you are to govern King's Landing together with Lord Tarly in my name. Once his Grace's enemies have been dealt with, the proper rewards will be delivered to his loyal servants."

I can recommend Janei, Kevan's youngest daughter. She is only a few years older than the Princess. Besides that, Joy Hill, the only child of Gerion Lannister, and only a year older.
Devan recommends to Lord Tyrell. He nods his head, understanding the command be given to him by the Lord Hand.
We will see what can be done. But given the lack of a navy, we will be at a disadvantage.
There was one final thing to discuss.
Given my place with your group, Lord Tyrell, I would like to speak of marriage.
Ser Lannister desired a bride after all.
My father once tried to betroth me to Lady Desmera Redwyne, but I have heard of the fate of the Arbor. I am hopeful that she lives. Otherwise, Lord Tyrell, what handmaidens of the Reach would prove a good bride for the Warden of the West?

Mace's face shined up at the talk of marriage. He loved weddings and feasts, much more joyful than the somber and serious politics of Westeros.
"Oh my good ser Daven! Of course, of course, it is a great sorrow to my family, my dear mother especially, what has happened to the Arbor. Nevertheless, I shall humbly advise you. There are quite a few noble ladies of the Reach, both youthful and beautiful, who would be a perfect match for you. There are of course the lovely attendants of Margaery: Meredyth Crane, Elinor and Alla and Megga Tyrell, distant cousins to the Queen. Then there's Lord Mathis Rowan, whose lands are not too far from the Westerlands. He has three daughters, unmarried as far as I remember. I think any of these ladies would fall for you, good ser, if you only ask! Of course, I'd be willing to offer my letter of recommendation to speed things along. After all, I hope that we will have a long and lasting partnership, Ser Daven, by the grace of the Seven."

Devan could hardly not smile at the enthusiasm of Lord Tyrell. He seemed quite the happy person when matchmaking occurred.
Well, you have certainly given me the most wonderful ladies with your suggestions, Lord Tyrell.
Lannister had heard of some of these ladies. Especially the Queen's cousins and Lord Rowan's daughters. He even recalled that Lord Tarly had daughters too.
My interest falls, greatly, upon Alla Tyrell. I have heard she has quite the voice for song. Lord Rowan also raises a thought seeing as his lands are too close to the Westerlands.
The Westerman thinks a moment longer before speaking.
Doesn't Lord Tarly have some daughters too?

Mace nodded his approval. Another potential match for House Tyrell, he could hardly contain himself.
"Ah yes, young Alla is a lovely lady, you've quite the eye for the maidens, Ser Daven. Her father Ser Leo would have no objections to such a match for his daughter. To be sure, Lord Tarly has daughters as well, and his eldest daughter has just recently married my eldest son and heir, Willas. If you were to ask Lord Tarly he would be an accommodating good father, I'm sure. He's a good man, a more illustrious lineage and service to the Reach you'll never find. I don't blame you for eyeing one of his daughters."
The older lord chuckled lightly as he took a swig of his wine.
"Have you reached a decision, Ser, or do you desire more time to ponder your options? That's quite alright, just send me a word and I'll help arrange any such matters."

Devan rubs his bearded chin for a moment before nodding.
Aye, I think I need some time. We still need to deal with Aegon the Pretender and secure the capital from possible foes.
Lannister smiles and bows his head slightly.
I thank you for your time, my Lord. I hope that I can serve the cause of the true King as well as you do.
