Once Otho Titianus has returned with the above information, Otho Augustus calls for the gathering of the following forces in Cisalpine Gaul:
VI Victrix - Italia
VI Hispania – Italia
VII Gemina - Italia
Praetorian Guard - Italia
Further, he asks that missives be sent to the governors in Hispania, asking for reinforcements.

Reports reach the Senate that Africa has ceased sending the expected grain shipments. Rome has enough supplies until the end of the year, but will begin to starve should no source be acquired in the short term.

Not long after word reaches Roma of Otho's victory over Vitellius at Bedriacum, an official messenger comes bearing a "request" from the victorious Augustus:

Cassius Longinus convened the Senate with whatever authority he had been given by the Augustus. He quickly proposed that the Caesar’s mandate be enacted immediately, and that one of the more junior Praetors be sent to recover Africa. He also quickly proposed that Otho be named ‘Pater Patriae’ for restoring the peace of the Republic in the West. Vitellius was extended a damnatio memoriae, and his family privately given the merciful option of exile while Otho was distracted with matters beyond the frontier.
Of course, everyone waited with bated breath as to what Vespasian would do. This war was not over yet. But Otho had, for now at least, become the sole master of Roma in the West.

Otho sends another rider, two days later, announcing the death of Otho Titianus - Caesar's brother - and the appointments of Suetonius Paulinus to Suffect Consul and Antonius Primus to governor of both Germania Inferior and Superior.
