"My brother is on a mission of greater consequence than the trumped up charges of some upjumped Septon." Cersei declared in a lazy manner. "You will serve, and perhaps a few other Dornishmen. After all, your Father lost only narrowly to See Gregor, which is more than most men can boast. If you have half his skill, it might serve. Was there anything else?"
-----------
"Lord Tyrell, you have overreached yourself significantly." She responded in a waspish tone. "It is not your place to act without my leave. I am the Queen Regent, and your service to the Crown is contingent upon my approval. For what reasons have you decided to unilaterally grant Lord Baelish's request? Are you so blind as to the position this places us in?" She was unsurprised Mace would do something so stupid, but she was surprised that he had been so bold about it.

Mace's face turned beet red and his cheeks puffed up like a puffer fish at the Queen Mother's venomous response. He had been played for a fool too much.
"Your Grace! I am overstepping no boundaries here! Your late uncle Kevan, the past Lord Regent, removed your regency before his tragic murder. As the Hand of the King, that means the regency is my duty until King Tommen has come of age. Your trial of faith has yet been held, until you have been cleared of your charges you are unfit to have any part in the ruling of the realm."
He pointed towards the wall that faced the city.
"House Tyrell is a vital part of keeping the peace in this city and defending it from potential enemies. 40,000 loyal men of the Reach keep the capital of His Grace safe day in and day out. I demand some damn respect for the work I have done. So, as the Lord Regent, I have decided that Lord Baelish is a loyal servant of the realm and the Riverlands are a necessary part of the Seven Kingdoms."

As the Kingsguard placed their hands upon their swords, Cersei rose from the throne. "A Hand has no right to remove a Regent, my Lord, but I see your loyalty now for what it truly is. Winds and words! The Crown's enemies seem conspicuously unopposed in the field by these supposed loyal men sworn to keep the king safe. It seems rather to me as if the swords that surround us are pointed toward the Red Keep as like as not towards the King's enemies. A Hand serves, the Regent rules. You have overstepped your bounds, my Lord, and I caution you that your next words must be spoken very, very carefully."

”Whatever Your Grace wills. I am but a bastard, as is my sister, unfit to defend the honour of a queen. Perhaps if you appointed us to the Kingsguard it would be a different matter.”
Nymeria retorted, drily.
”That will be all, Your Grace. I take my leave.”
With a curtsy, Nymeria departed, a little bemused at the turn of events. She would set up her quarters in the city itself rather than in the Red Keep; the city was a little safer now that Tyrell men patrolled it in the thousands.

"One more matter." Cersei called down, as Lannister guards crossed spears and blocked her way. "You are indeed a bastard, unfit to defend my honor it is true. Yet these charges leveled against me are just as base as your birth. And yet...Nymeria Martell sounds a trifle more appealing to me than Nymeria Sand, does it not? Serve me well and perhaps I could convince the King to make it so."

The offer was baffling, catching her truly off guard. Bastardy was not as a severe stain in Dorne as it was in King’s Landing, but it still proved an irritation. Nymeria suspected that her sisters and Arianne would find the Queen’s overtures more than a little amusing. It would change very little for her, as it stood, for as Oberyn’s recognised daughters they already were treated as kin by Prince Doran and his children.
”His Grace the King is generous beyond measure. I will await your word.”
Sand turned to take her leave, waiting for the Lannister guards to let her pass. It seemed she had much to reflect upon already.

The crossed spears rose, and Nymeria was permitted to pass. The seeds had been sown, Cersei hoped.

Mace, indignant by the Queen's words, puffs out his chest as his loyal men prepare to save him from trouble. He reached for his pocket and squeezed the letter from his mother, seeking courage in her words for the next step."A regent removed a regent, your Grace, or am I wrong in remembering that Lord Kevan was named regent by your own decree? And until your innocence has been proven in the Faith's trial, you are unfit to rule in any capacity. Step down from the Iron Throne, your Grace, or you will force my hand to remove you by force."Lord Mace looked to the Kingsguard nervously. Some of them were more terrifying than the others. He hoped that most of them would see reason."Kingsguard! By order of the Lord Regent and Hand of the King, you are to step back and not interfere! Cersei Lannister is not a member of the royal family until she has been proved innocent by His Holiness the High Septon!"

"Lord Tyrell, this is treason." She responded, wondering when he grew a spine and which Maester had aided in it. "Ser Strong, take Mace Tyrell into custody. If anyone gets in your way, kill them. If the Hand resists, kill him." The Kingsguard drew their swords as one as Lannister men-at-arms moved in about the Hand, blocking the exist. "Close the Red Keep." Cersei ordered further.

Mace Tyrells guard formed around him protectively, trained to sense the trouble before it ever came to their lord's attention. They quickly made their way from the Great Hall gates of the Red Keep, raising the alarm as the on duty Lannister men and Kingsguard came forward to try to seize their liege. Some stayed and fought to allow the others to escape, likely facing death to protect Lord Tyrell. Courtiers ran in a panic as the Red Keep became engulfed in a melee, with Lannister guards being called from their posts all over the citadel to assist the handful that had been present in the Great Hall when fighting broke out. Word had been sent from the household guard to a nearby troupe of Tyrell men, and word was quickly passed down the chain of command of fighting within the Keep and the attempt on their Lord's life. They made a fighting retreat down Aegon's high hill, a troupe of nearby soldiers arriving to hold off the enemy at the gates of the Keep.

Mace ran as fast as he could, faster than he had ever done in his life, to safety outside the Red Keep. Thank the gods that his army was in control of most of the city by this point, otherwise he was sure to have been captured and killed. Once back in safety among his troops, he had the time to finally catch his breath and gather his thoughts. Stubborn Cersei, give her a finger and she takes the whole hand. Mace had no choice at this point, it was killed or be killed. He turned to the nearest lieutenant to dispatch orders.
"The Queen Mother has gone mad, I want King's Landing secured and the Red Keep under siege. We must rescue his Grace King Tommen from her evil clutches. And get me Randyll Tarly!"

Cersei rose and left, but soon decrees came down:
Mace Tyrell, like Eddard Stark before him, has unlawfully attempted a coup and to place himself on the Throne. THe facts of the two cases are almost identical. Once again a great lord of the land has attempted to place himself on the throne and strengthen that claim via a royal marriage to the King.
1. By order of the King, Mace Tyrell is named outlaw, stripped of his titles, and attainted.
2. Ser Loras Tyrell of the Kingsguard is ordered to arrest and present his father at the Red Keep for judgment.
3. Randyll Tarly is elevated to the rank of Hand of the King by order of Cersei Lannister, the Queen Regent.
4. Maergary Tyrell will present herself at the Red Keep and offer explanation of her father's behavior, and to show cause as to how the royal betrothal may be maintained.
Ravens fly form the Red Keep to Casterly Rock and the Riverlands, summoning Devan Lannister and Lord Baelish to muster troops to place the Capital under siege should Mace decide to use his army in an act of treason.
In the depths of the Red Keep, in his laboratories, Qyburn prepares sweet sleep.

Sers Strong, Kettleblack, Trant, Blount, advanced in their heavy plate, drawing swords. Ser Strong was first among them, and he split a Tyrell guardsman nearly in half with his first blow. The other three engaged other guardsmen as the Lannister guards moved in with spear and sword. Before long, half a dozen Tryell guards were left bleeding to death in the throne room. Ser Strong advanced, his white cloak soaking up the blood of the fallen.

Margaery Tyrell is brought to the great hall by Lannister guardsmen. Osmund Kettleback was the one handing her to Cersei, wearing the spotless white cloak of his brethren. His hooked nose and bushy dark beard could be seen with the visor raised. Considering they were besieged at the keep the Kingsguard wore full plate, white as milk. He was grabbing Margaery by the arm, gently but firmly, and she placed her in front on the throne, before the steps leading to the hulking mass of steel. "My Queen, as you requested"Said the man who Cersei had bedded at times and whose cloak had earned his loyalty. Imprisoned for a time by Kevan he was now more grateful than ever, freed by the dowager queen.
