Lepidus' scouts are attacked by a sizeable group of cavalry around Nicomedia. The army is garrisoned within the city, and they did not manage to get an accurate troop count before they were driven away

The Bithynians hunker down and prepare for a siege. Nicomedia is connected to the sea via a port into the Bosporus, so until naval support arrives the Romans will not be able to besiege it effectively.

Lepidus orders the construction of towers, ladders and rams while he waits on naval reinforcements.

With the navy in place, surrender is offered to the city, if refsed lepidus orders the assault. A part of the force will enter via the harbor.

Lepidus' forces take heavy casualties during the siege, but manage to capture the city. During the looting, the Galatian allies deliver Lepidus some 26,000 denarii's worth of plunder to return to his commander. With Nicomedia fallen and Mithridates defeated in the west, many provincial cities begin flipping back to Rome.

Orders arrive from Sulla for Lepidus to leave a portion of the allied force as a garrison, and to take a force of roman bodyguards to join him at Amaseia, where he has the city under siege. It is made clear that the general expects a full report of the campaign.
