"Aye, well, Lancel's heir decided he didn't care about a small castle in the Bay of Craws when he was getting the Rock"
He grunted.
And actually his father had been Lord of Riverrun until he was hanged. Neither the Trident belonged to Tully by then. But he saved those remarks for somewhere else.
"Fair exchange, though. I would also have taken the Rock. Shame I'm a Frey and a sister's son on top, else I'd be sitting on a gold mine"
Walder looked sorry for himself.
"So, he said, 'here, you weasel-faced shit, take this castle of Darry'. I took the parchment, some guy from Stannis, Justin Whatevers, went and said it was fine, pats me on the shoulder and I ride here with a thousand swords. Then I heard you were in Riverrun and came in good faith, yet you chained me and my knights. Still, fairly more entertaining than standing as cupbearer for one of my shitty cousins at the West"
He chuckled, humorous.

Edmure pauses and thinks "Oh, I can see why you had the banners made then. You must've been really proud of yourself. Darry is a fine castle, yes. But I make the decisions that concern the Riverlands, not Stannis and certainly not a Lannister."
He chuckles as well "I can sympathize. Never have I been to a more boring place than the Rock."
The Lord of Riverrun had enjoyed being in a months-long journey in a boat full of commoners much more than his short stay at Casterly Rock. "Rise, Walder. I command you to give up your cursed last name, to give up your claim to the Twins and to give up your blood ties to House Lannister. You shall take up the name of the castle you'll rule: Darry, and you'll marry Amerei Frey, whose mother has Darry blood in her veins."

Oh fuck myself in the arse, Gatehouse Ami. Splendid. Black Walder been there, done what.
"Forgive me, it'll take me a moment to get up, I got cramps. This place is a shithole"
Walder struggled for a moment to get on his feet.
"Darry? Me?"
Oh what the actual fuck, it sounds so poorly when combined with my own name. Walder Darry sounds like actual shit. It will go well with my face, I guess.
"Alright, so be it. Having to give up the Twins sucks, being honest, considering I was only a couple Freys away from it"

Edmure scoffs "You must do something before claiming Darry, though. Grab your knights, ride hard and fast for the Twins and get them to surrender. I want Old Walder, Lothar and Black Walder captured alive, the rest can be free. If they don't surrender, well, you should join the siege. Lord Blackwood and the Blackfish are marching there with an army as we speak."He turns as he is leaving to say one more thing: "Good luck, Lord Darry. Do not disappoint me."

"Oh my, excuse me, Lord Bolton of... I don't know how his castle is named"
He said, jesting, gesturing humoruously.
"Do you think my kinsmen will surrender to me? You don't know my family well: Ser Emmon was a laughing stock even in the Twins; Seven have mercy on his soul. I'll miss him. But I'll miss Lyonel more, even if he was an arsehole"
He rubs his eyes, trying not to cry.
"May I know if you buried my father and brother? Or they're rotting somewhere?"

"We cut their ropes yesterday. Maester Vyman is looking after of the bodies. You can take them with you if you wish to bury them in the Twins."
Edmure was not an animal. He would not deny Walder what he himself had been denied. "I care not for the internal politics of your former family, Lord Darry. Bring me Old Walder, Black Walder and Lothar, I don't care if you use your tongue or your sword to do it. But I do want them alive."

"We give the bodies to the Rivers there, not much space to have family crypts. Few lords before my grandfather used to, but the family grew and we no longer had place to bury anyone"Said Walder. "But... I guess will take them with me. I hope yours lords can tell me apart from the other weasel-faced Freys later when we seize the castle"

"Lord Uncle, Lord Blackwood. We've got no time to lose. I'll give command of two thousand men to each of you; Tytos, you'll besiege the Western Twins and, Uncle, you'll do the same with the Eastern Twins." He points at the castles in the map "Demand their surrender. I intend to grant them a fair trial; tell them that. If they refuse, do start the siege. Avoid any bloodshed if possible. I am sick and tired of Riverlander blood being spilled between our own." Tytos glanced at the map and then back to Edmure Tully. He seemed skeptical and disappointed with his lord's plans for the Freys.
"With all due respect, my lord, but justice must be demanded of the Freys. They spilled the blood of countless lords and noble sons during the Red Wedding, violating the guest right. They are outcasts in the eyes of the gods, both old and new, and deserve nothing less than a swift death. At the very least the main perpetrators in the family should suffer the consequences of their betrayal."

But even a traitor like Frey deserves a fair trial. The Riverlords will determine his fate, as well as the fate of anyone that helped him plan and execute the deed."
Edmure had known Lucas Blackwood well. He was not among his closest friends, but they had rode, hunted and sparred together. He understood why Tytos was reluctant.

"Very well, I can agree to that. We'll march as soon as the troops are rested and ready. Any news from our king, will he be joining us at the Twins?"

"I would be curious to know that as well. It will certainly change the way that we must plan for this operation. At the very least, Lord Tytos and I will ensure that the castle lies under siege until our king can help us." He paused for a moment, considering Tytos objections and Edmure's response, "I will only accept the Freys going to trial because I know what the river lords will decide."

"I doubt Stannis will march north. Don't count on him joining you. You'll have to do with the army I give you."
Edmure was starting to get annoyed. Was everyone going to second-guess every order he gave?

Jaime entered the solar, newly clapped in chains. The irony of the situation was tremendous, and too great to allow his appreciation for such irony to pass unnoticed. "The last time I was a prisoner in Riverrun I had both my hands." He said by way of greeting. He waved his stump in the air and made the chains clink together. "I'm afraid I was a bit more fearsome back then. I did not expect to meet you here Edmure. I am sorry you seemed to dislike Casterly Rock so much you had to return home without my leave. I can only hope you will show me the same mercy I showed you. Perhaps returning your ancestral seat to you will be a bounty worth my life."

This is immensely distasteful, I apologize."Edmure calls for a servant to free Jaime from his shackles. "Last time we were in this room I told you how much I despised you, Lord Jaime. I don't now, somehow. Too much has happened, to me and to everyone around. It just seems foolish to hate you."
The Lord of Riverrun takes a seat and invites Jaime to do so as well. "I have two questions and all I ask of you is to answer truthfully." Edmure said "Firstly, were you or any of the Lannisters involved in Jon Arryn's death?" He asked "And secondly... Is what Stannis claims of Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen true?"

Jaime sat, his eyes still dancing. "I've grown quite accustomed to them, I've spent as much time in shackles and without them since Robert's death." He rubbed at his stump, which always seemed to itch awfully. "You may be one of the only men left in the Seven Kingdoms who doesn't hate me then, Tully. Gods know you have enough reason to. But hate is a wearisome thing to carry."
He scoffed at the first question. "Gods, no. Cersei and I had no secrets between us, and father had no reason to murder Jon Arryn. If father had wanted to be Hand again, he would have said so. Besides, if Tywin Lannister had wanted Jon Arryn dead, one of them would have died on the battlefield or in single combat. Subtle deaths were not something my father was accustomed to doling out, as the songs will attest. Thirteen years I served in the Kingsguard under Barristan Selmy, and thirteen years I watched Jon Arryn moderate Robert's excesses. Jon would have made a better king in truth. He was an arrogant man, but none could doubt his skill or devotion to the ruling of the Kingdoms. Sometimes arrogance is justified when it comes to great skill. Some would have said that about me when I still had a hand, unless they wanted to test their mettle."
Jaime quieted at the next query. He looked down, past Edmure. Several moments passed before Jaime answered weakly and in a whisper. "We...we do not choose the ones we love. It just...happens." Jaime frowned, ready to be judged yet again, this time for a new charge. "Let that sin join all the others. Kingslayer, honorless."
