"Seven hells"
He cried out when the razon cut his cheek.
"Oh, for the Seven's sakes"
Walder grabs the linen towel and cleans the zone with water, the presses it against the small wound. It hadn't bled much.
"Alright, it isn't too bad, it seems"
He makes faces in front of the polished bronze mirror and keeps shaving his red fuzz while humming a song.
"Brothers, oh brothers, my days here are done..."
Walder removes the foam with water and towel, looking himself at the mirror. He starts singing aloud.
"...the Dornishman's taken my life,
But what does it matter, for all men must die,
and I've tasted the Dornishman's wife!"
He started lacing his doublet, a handsome raiment in red and gold, puts his breeches, half-blue half-white, and pins his cloak with a twin towers-shaped enamelled brooch. He then lowers the stairs to the lower levels, goes to the stables to mount his red destrier and leaves galloping for Lannisport nearby. After a short ride he crossed the gates, the city fully awaken and brimming with life. He atop his horse and wearing livery makes an impresion on the smallfolk, who left him pass through the crowd.
The good thing about heraldry is that people tend to forget about weasel faces.
Walder thought to himself. He approached the alley of moneylenders and bankers, who were a plenty in the city of Lannisport, and headed to the one Frey knew usually worked with golden-haired relatives of his. Unmounting, he ties the reins in a pole, next to the office of the said merchant and banker and crossed his threshold, still humming the same song, too catchy to get rid of it.

The place, in question, belonged to a branch of the Lannett family. As most people with a remote degree of reading knew, Lannisport was ruled by a branch of the Lannister family, but many of its gentry and highborn citizens were also descendants of the Lannisters, ranging from trueborn to bastards. Maesters have had an issue of finding out which family descends from which Lannister, whether he, or she, be King or Lord Paramount. The Lannetts were among these many distant cousins, bearing the distinctive golden hair of their ancestors.
Walder entered the establishment to find that the original owner had retired, the grey-haired Norwin Lannett. Seemed his memory took a turn for the worst and his hands stopped being good for counting coins. His son, Tywell, and granddaughter, Tyshara, now ran the moneylending business that had been in their family for generations. Tywell was a lanky figure, no muscles whatsoever, but had a sharp chin and brilliant eyes. His daughter was nowhere to be seen right now, but her voice could be heard somewhere in the back. Tywell looks up as the bell rings, indicating the arrival of someone. It wasn't a Lannister this time, Lucion and Damion being their usual, but rather Walder Frey.
Ser Frey.
Tywell nods his head as he pushes the ledger book to the side.
On an errand for Ser Lucion today or we doing something for Old Damion?

"I come on my own, Tywell"
Said Walder, wavering a hand as a salute.
"I've been given a lordship, you see? A handsome one. But I have no coin whatsoever to cover my expense going all the way to the Trident"
He leans on the counter.
"Least so I'm willing to go without hiring a score of armed men to bash some heads in case things go South, know what I mean?"
Walder speaks as he talks.
"You know, I need to take a loan to have some coin on my own, specially since I don't have enough hire a single men-at-arms. You've been a chosen bussiness partner of my family, you know me, so I'm certain we can do proper bussiness, is it not, humm?"
(Walder has +3 charisma)

Tywell's eyebrow went up slightly.
A lordship you say? My my, seemed just like yesterday you were a small Frey squire, following Lucion around.
The Lannett pulls the ledger back into view and picks up a set of reading glasses.
Well, I am in the mood to grant a loan.
The Westerman moves his finger upon the page, checking some notes.
How much you looking to want as a loan?

His fingers pitter-patter the counter. "Fifty hundred dragons. With that amount I will hire swords to enforce my rule and with the rest I will make sure the keep is properly... mantained. I'm sure it has seen better times"Walder smiles. The cut from shaving was itching slightly, but he tried to not obsess about it.

Tywell clicks his teeth slightly before looking at the ledger. His hand reaches for a quill, dipping it into some ink, to begin writing.
Year... 301 AC... loan of five thousand dragons... to the hands of Lord Walder Frey.
The Lannett says quietly as he writes it into the ledgers.
Sum of which... will be repaid... in five years with interest...
He blows on the ink for it to dry then turns to Walder.
Payment will be available tomorrow or the day after. Gonna need some time to get the money all squared away.
=========================
Walder Frey gains a loan of 5,000 dragons which is to be paid within five years, with interest. Lannett expects 6,000 dragons as a result in half a decade.

Lannett expects 6,000 dragons as a result in half a decade. "Good, good. Grand"Said Walder, rubbing his hands. "Count the coin, I have to fetch myself some swords"He had to reprieve his joy not to jump on the place. "A pleasure to make bussiness with you, Lannett, as always"With that said, Frey went to start looking for swords. Retired men that had served Tywin in years past, adventurers, smallfolk left pennyless by the war. All would suffice. But, specially, he had to seek knights, hedge knights and swords who had no master but a belly to fill. He would call them up, from all the corners in the West, like he was digging gold, and they would have a purse fief from him. A lord needs annointed knights, plus it would be of use to drag Hardwyn out of Darry. ooc: don't archive this, we'll use it later on for Darry and stuff, instead of openning new threads and cluttering everything.

The Host of Red Walder.
420 LI 300 AR 300 HI 180 LC TOTAL=1,200 men.
He had clamored for men and they did came, in the end. Twelve hundred fighting men, many of them were smallfolk, with their crude weapons and armor, men that had lost crops and home during the war and had little to lose and much to gain: a daily meal for starters. Then, there were men-at-arms, remnants of Tywin's host and armies, some of them were gray and seasoned, but they all were good men. They came with plate and mail, sword, lance, hammer and mace. And, finally, even could hire cavalrymen, light horse, some of whom had served in Tywin's van during the war, sent West with Devan Lannister. No knights had come, and Walder knew he needed at least a score of them, because without them in your company you were just a straw man and no lord.
Thus, Walder started to try to court knights into his payroll and to come with him to Darry. He started with his cousins of Lannister, Stafford's younger brothers, that had little to call their own and might be convinced to join their half-Lannister cousin into coming to the Riverlands. Both were beyond what could be considered their prime, in their forties, but they were annointed knights and Lions on top of that. Walder needed such men, moreso because they could bring retainers on their own.

Walder found the two brothers, the uncles of Devan, who still lived within the rank and file of the knights, sworn to the Westerlands and House Lannister. The older of the two was Lyman Lannister, an old lion of over fifty years. He had cleanly shaven face with a shaved head to complement it. Age had caused his face to fatten, slightly, but he was said to be a large male in stature than girth. His son, Tymond, a male in his mid-thirties, was an average knight who knew how to wield a sword at least. Tyland was the brother of Lyman and in his late forties. A mustache covered his upper lip and blonde stubs covered his cheeks and chin. He was a skinny male with average muscle. He was rather known to wield a shield better than the sword, given his long life as a guardsmen for Lannisport.
They were present near the Rock now, given the state of affairs. Walder would find the trio, in their tent, after a patrol shift. Tymond was the first to notice Walder and nudged his father who was deep in a bowl of chicken stew and a nice mug of ale. The old Lyman looks up with his dull eyes, looking at the Frey.
I know your face anywhere.
He points his spoon at Walder before finishing his soup.
You're one of those sons that cousin Genna mothered right?
Tyland had a bit more brains than his older brother when he spoke.
Lyman, you ran into this boy more times than ever. You should know our kinsman's name, Walder Frey.

"Aye, Red Walder, if you like"
Said Frey, grabbing himself a bit of ale to pour down his throat.
"They say the red is after grandmother, Lady Jeyne"
He added, pointing to his mop of copper-like hair.
"I've come seeking you, cousins. I've been named Lord of Darry, you see? And I need good knights, I had to try with my own kin first. Lately the Rock's a mess and we're a bit too many mouths around the place, we could spare Damion, Lucion and the next Lord some trouble. I intend to claim my seat, I have a thousand men and more camped outside Lannisport, but any lords needs knights in his employ, knights like you"

Lyman and Tyland look at each other then back at their cousin.
And?
The grey-haired Lion said bluntly. Tyland shakes his head and speaks further.
I believe what my brother says is why should we switch vows from Lannister to Frey? Are we not knights either way?
The brothers wondered if Walder had better offers to make than Lannister, who were their golden-haired kin after all. Tyland continues speaking.
We have served House Lannister for decades now. They have been good to us after all.

If Kevan's child was to drop dead I'd be lord. "You're not to change cloaks, rather purse a benefitial career in my service. I have need of good swords in the Rivers and a need lordship to mantain. Who knows, maybe there're smaller keeps waiting for those who come with me"
The honor of Darry had been restored into its former borders by the crown after it had been granted to Lancel, it was large and had a score of houses sworn to it. "You would serve in honorable posts in my household as Lord of Darry and Seven know where else we could be, the Twins maybe..."
With Edwyn dead only women and Black Walder stood between Red Walder and the Twins.

With Edwyn dead only women and Black Walder stood between Red Walder and the Twins. The Lannisters all looked at each other and it was Lyman who shook his head for the trio. Your offer is good cousin, but... we are comfortable where we are.The old lion pulls on a grey hair. I am old, Walder. My days are numbered and, soon enough, Tyland too. Tymond has a future here, as a son of the Rock, one built by me.Tyland nods in agreement with his brother. Nonetheless, there was something that could be done. The brother rises and walks over to grab a sheet of parchment. With a quill in hand, he begins writing some names down. The parchment was handed to Walder. They appeared to be Lannister relatives by the looks of things. Here, we won't let you go empty handed.A better look revealed that these men were brother-in-laws to the two here. These are our sister's husbands, Walder. They are three knights that married our half-sister Lynora Hill and our full sisters, Ella and Melesa. They are a sizable family together and really don't have as much of a future than we do. They would certainly love to take up your offer more than likely to serve a Lord directly. Go to our sister's husbands, Walder. I know that Ella's son is old enough to serve, while Lynora and Melesa's sons are of a squire age. More so Melesa's, the youngest of them all.Tyland smiles and pats Walder's shoulder. May they serve you well, Walder Frey, and may your journey to the Riverlands bear fruit when the time comes.============================== NotesUnnamed Knight (Lynora Hill's husband) - Age 44 1 child, a son (15) Unnamed Knight (Ella Lannister's husband) - Age 47 1 child, a son (24) Unnamed Knight (Melesa Lannister's husband) - Age 43 2 children, a son (19) and a daughter (22)

Walder almost pulled his hairs when the man started speaking, yet, there was a glimmer of hope.
"Let the Strange claim you late and peacefully, old cousin"
Said Frey with a smile.
"Oh, right. These were... Ser Ferren, Ser Heatherspoon and... Ser Hamell, right? Indeed, they're"
He read the parchment with interest.
"I will go to them, aye, they shall not regret it, I swear. I'm grateful"
That said, he went seeking those who were cousins too, albeit not by blood but marriage, they would be more amenable and prone to collaborating.

With Tyland confirming who the men were, it didn't take long to find these men and convince them to join Frey's services. Like Tyland said, they had less of a future compared to their brother-in-laws and the chance to earn some reputation, in the service of a Lord, directly, did intrigue them easily. Ferren, Heatherspoon, and Hamell were quick to join, along with their sons, especially Heatherspoons who was the older of the three sons. Hamell's was almost done with his squiring while Ferren's was still in the midset. Hamell's daughter also came along as well as their mothers.
All in all, despite not gaining the services of their brothers, the three sisters, and their families, did bring some knights to Red Walder's service.
